I was alerted to the excellent art work going on over at 800 Pound Productions Deviant Art page by my good buddy Tommy Lombardozzi. He follows them in Instagram, and they began to post pictures of one of their projects that appeals to my 80s baby sensibilities. The gang are mashing up Generation 1 Transformers and GI Joes.... creating JoeFormers!!! What a great idea... take Transformer characters and re-design them to resemble Joe figures from the 80s. These designs are amazing, even if there are only three so far (Optimus, Soundwave and Grimlock!). They even took it one step further and collaborated with Air Max Animated toy customs to create ACTUAL figures of these concepts, both of which look PHENOMENAL! You can see these awesome creations in this gallery or by clicking here to go to their Deviant Art page. There is also much more to look at here, so make sure you take it all in. You can see the existing JoeFormers after the jump....

80s Toys by Hartter
My geeky man love for the art of Sean Hartter is well known, but the more I go through his back log of pieces over at his site the more I realize I need to share this amazing stuff with the world. I can't wait for October to roll around and we have our first CCD table at the New York City Comic Con in collaboration with my main man Sean. Today we will take a look at some of the retro 80s toys that Sean has created over the years via digital manipulation and his own unique stylings. Some of these are so well suited (Maximum Overdrive Optimus Prime? Yeah... that is perfect!), and some are a bit more ambitious (Leon the professional MOTU figure? WTF!!!!). either way, all of them are awesome. Enjoy them after the jump, and get on over to Sean's site and buy some of his prints. Like now....

The Transformers Get Their Sgt Pepper On!!!
I love it when comic books take a queue from other pop culture properties for covers. It doesn't have to relate to the story or the comic itself, but if done correctly could portray the comic characters in a fun way. Case in point: Issue #12 of IDW Comics Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye. Artist Nick Roche decided to channel the original Big 4, The Beatles, and have the Autobots & Decepticons get their Sgt. Pepper on. Now I don't read this comic and apparently Optimus is not around in the storyline (I don't know why), but I sure do know a cool cover when I see one. And this is it. Thanks to my main man Dan from It's A Dan World for keeping me in the comic book loop. Check out the cover after the jump....

JoeyESQ's Ode To Toys
What's up CCD Fam, JoeyEsq here. Now most of you know me from my "Takin You Way Back" columns where I highlight various forgotten and under appreciated toys from that great decade, the 1980's. If you don't know, that's where I bring you up to speed on some of the more obscure, lesser known and less successful toylines that came out during my youth. Now when I write those columns I absolutely do some research, and Google Images and YouTube are phenomenal in the visual aide department, but in every article, at least some of (if not all) of what I write is from memory. That got me thinking, I have a lot of really fond, really vivid memories involving toys. Probably way more than a 33 year old attorney should admit to having. But whatever, thoughts of my old toys always bring a warm feeling to my heart, so I thought I'd share some of those thoughts and warm feelings with you.

Mega Morphs by Lou Kang
Check out this very cool concept entitled Mega Morphs, which are basically giant robot versions of your favorite Marvel heroes. Think giant Transformers with the powers/weapons of Wolverine, Spider-man, Ghost Rider, and others. The artwork is done by artist Lou Kang. This would be so fucking cool. It reminds me of the robot versions of the Avengers from the Marvel animated feature Young Avengers. Lets hope they find a way to get this done. It could be really cool. See the full size pics after the jump...

This Is What The Windows Look Like At The United Church Of Geek!!!
Artist Marissa Garner knows just how fanatical geeks can be, and knows that some of them worship their beloved characters as if they were religious figures. So she decided to do some awesome stained glass portraits featuring some geek culture heavies (Optimus Prime, Spidey, Professor X, and Batman) and their supporting characters. Now if the windows look like this at my local church, I might just pop in a bit more than once a year. You can see more of Marissa's work here and buy some of these prints at her Etsy shop by clicking here. All hail the geek stained glass.... after the jump!

The DeLorean Gets Some Swanky Re-Designs Over At Worth 1000

Worth 1000 is an excellent graphic/digital art website that sponsors many contests and challenges for artists to re-design or re-imagine iconic people, places, and things. The contest that caught my eye first (there are so many galleries!!!) was the contest concerning The DeLorean from the Back to the Future trilogy. Contestants were asked to re-imagine the classic dull grey exterior of the DeLorean to better reflect other popular cars and vehicles from the past. These are just wonderful. Click after the jump for some great stuff...

The Wonderful Commissioned Artwork Of James Silvani
I came across artist James Silvani's (his blog & his tumblr) work over at Buzzfeed in an article about 'Darkwing Duck'. Silvani is drawing the new 'Darkwing Duck' comic book and since I always loved the character I figured I see what Silvani could do. Boy am I glad I did. His finished products (for the actual comics) are spectacular... but where he really shines is in the commission department. My god this guy has some wonderful ideas for mash-ups and original portrayals of the characters that all of us nerds love and adore. Click Read more below to see some of the commissions that caught my eye from his gallery. Whoever owns these puppies are some very lucky geeks. Which ones are your faves? Tell us in the comment section below!

'I'd Buy That...As A Tee' Volume 4 by Jeff Bond
Spring has sprung and I could use a few new unique T-Shirts to really make a statement without saying a word. A Statement like "I'm a geek that doesn't take much of anything seriously...I'm approachable and easily abused."
Here's some of the T-shirts I have my eye on to do just the trick but, there's only one problem....they aren't for sale yet! Monster Serie 2 portrays this plain jane, house frau packin' a mean machine gun.
Imposter imagines what might be hiding under M & M's candy-coated shell.....the candy-coated shell of a Skittles candy!
Steampunk Jessica mashes up two of my faves...the "Steampunk" genre and Roger's main squeeze from 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'....

'Bigfoot Spotted On....' Endor! Only that's NO 'Bigfoot' that's the one and only Chewbacca milling about amongst the shrubbery. I love that if you actually do cozy up a bit closer to 'Read What Locals Are Saying' as the t-shirts suggests, you'll find nothing but, the native language of the cute and cuddly Ewoks! Unless, of course, you read 'Ewok'...than please feel free to translate for me in the comment section below
'Insane For Brain' is a play on the Cypress Hill lyric, of course..but, this shirt would look kinda loco plastered around my chest cavity when I'm front and center for the next season of 'Walking Dead' on AMC!

LEGO Iconic Vol #10 by Jeff Bond
I am such a huge Lego nerd that words can not explain. Soooo I've decided to use my favorite blog site CCD.com as an outlet to get some of this stuff that I see every day, built out of bricks, out of my skull and onto the blogosphere where it can't hurt my cerebral cortex. Each month I'll be posting the best of the best hoping to inspire the Lego maniac in each of you...young and old. Enjoy!
First up, an old stand-by, Profound Whatever, offers this re-imagining of Disney's lucky hare (whose name he mixed with that of JFK assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald of course) armed to the whiskers in heavy artillery. The tubes used for spent bullet casings were an awesome touch and ya' gotta love the new design that's been popping up for fingers and hands for this scale creation. Mickey...watch the f*ck out!

...also Profound Whatever created this homage to the iconic image 'Flower Chucker' from guerrilla artist and talk of the town Banksy (original image below). The likeness is uncanny.

Like! Like? Art Edition: David Reynolds
I found David Reynold's art work (aka Mach Sabre at Deviant Art) while researching some Transformers fan-art a few months back and visit his Deviant Art page frequently these days...mostly because his female muses give me a raging nerd-boner. Enjoy some of my favorites (and click the link to his page above for more), but first...get some tissues handy!
