CCD Presents: Geoff Cain of Black Action Tees Live From the Floor of the 2013 NY Comic Con

One of the coolest things that I purchased the whole time I was at the 2013 NY Comic Con had to be the T-Shirts I picked up over at the Black Action Tees booth. Owner Geoff Cain makes some killer t shirts, and they tend to feature the forgotten and lesser known heroes that happen to be minorities. No Superman or Batman shirts here... there are plenty of booths selling those. Black Action Tees focuses on heroes like Black Lightning, Dragonfly Jones, and Black Dynamite... and I am happy that they do! I grabbed up three shirts, the Mike Tyson, Black Lightning, and Sam Jackson Bad Mofo shirts myself. I also chatted with owner Jeff and discussed just what makes his company stand out among the others in the crowd. Electric Zombie Takes On The WWF/E In Honor Of Wrestlemania

My boy Johnny over at Freddy In Space keeps me in the loop about all things horror, especially when it comes to cool ass horror themed merchandise. But I am most upset with myself for overlooking the fact that my man Johnny was at Wrestlemania 29 this weekend and we didn't meet up!!! I am trying to get all my pics in order to make a Wrestlemania 29 post for CCD (hopefully by next Monday), but on my most recent trip over to Freddy In Space Johnny shared some awesome WWF/E wrestling themed t-shirts and posters from Electric Zombie. Now even though most of their merch deals with horror, the guys at EZ obviously love their old school wrasslin' and dig deep to come up with some horrorific versions of familiar wrestlers and events throughout the years. I love the Royal rumble poster, and the Brett Hart shirt is super boss. All in all, a cool ass line that coincides with a great event. CCD Holiday Geek Gift Guide: Geeky Christmas Sweater T-Shirts

Even the most horrific classic Christmas gifts can be geek-asized so as to make them cooler. One of the coolest geek themed things that has happen in the past few years has been the upswing of t-shirt websites that are printing cool shirts based on geek properties. More and more artists are using their cool themed fan art that they create to turn them into cooler t-shirts. Ghost Glide is one of the best in the game at doing this right now, and his latest shirt had me hankering to the days of Nintendo's 8 bit Legend of Zelda even though it features every bodies favorite Asgardians, Thor & Odin! Mount Playmore by ???

I found this excellent design for a t-shirt over at Busted Tees and I am pissed because the site does not name the designer of the shirt. It is entitled Mount Playmore, and features the Nintendo  Holy Quadumvirate  of Mario, Donkey Kong, Samus Aran, and Link set in stone like they rightfully deserve. I hate not being able to being able to give credit to an artist, but this one was too good not to share. Defective by Glennz

The original 60's Batman TV series was a camp classic, filled with guest stars and word bubbles describing the action. It is one of my fondest memories of TV watching as a child... anywho, the show spawned a full length feature that is a dream come true for a fan of the show because it is like three episodes in one and features all four of Batman's most notorious villains (Joker, Penguin, The Riddler, and Catwoman). It also contains one of the most memorable "Bat-Moments" of all time in which Batman is attacked by a shark and tries to fight it off with his bare hands. He is only successful in ridding himself of the shark when Robin passes him a can of "Shark Repellent"... it is so ridiculous that it has become a touchstone moment in pop culture history! T-shirt artist Glennz decided to use this scene as inspiration for his newest shirt, "Defective". Great shirt in memory of a great team...

Ok... Ok. I shouldn't say hate. I just get majorly frustrated when I miss out on awesome shirts that are only for sale on sites like RIPT or TeeFury for 24 hours. Case in point:

Jeff killed it the other day with his T-shirt post... but I found these two puppies in my travels and had to share with my fellow geeks out there.

Family Guy Goes Back To The Stone Age

Swag Bag!!!!

Two of my very good friends, Tony from StixFigure Clothing and Johnny from the blog Freddy in Space have made me a very happy camper as they have sent me packages filled with some awesome swag!!! I love sending out packages, but I can't lie... I love getting them more. They say it is better to give then to receive. I say that's bullshit. So lets get to the goodies.

First up, my man Tony hit me up with some fly ass headgear from StixFigure. I am a bit to hefty to fit into some of his gear (which makes me mad, because his shit is SOOOO Fly!!!!), but at least I can rock these awesome hats. The thing I love about them is that all three are so vastly different.

First, we got the 'La La Land' fitted cap. It's a lot like the L.A. Dodgers 'New Era' hat, but with the little twists that make it strictly StixFigure. Sick!!!

Second, we got the 'Mulberry St.' 5 panel adjustable cap, which has a traditional checkered print in the spirit of those classic Italian restaurant tablecloths. Awesome, just awesome.

Finally we got a Stixfigure Skully. I'm in... especially with all this winter here in NYC!!!!

Next, my boy Johnny came correct. Johnny runs the very cool horror blog Freddy In Space. His blog is freaking unreal, and its my first stop, everyday, when I peruse the web. Anyway, I sent Johnny a Freddy Kreuger sticky toy from the 80's that I came across at Joe Koch's Comic Warehouse, and it turned out to be a crazy variant in upside down packaging. That made my man Johnny smile... and he decided to reciprocate in a very awesome way.

He sent me this cool care package that had a "Support Independent Horror Movies" button, an O.G. Prom Night  sticker, and this very cool etching of Clint Howard from the cult classic movie 'Ice Cream Man'. I'll let Johnny explain:

Yo Mike! I don't know if you saw my post on the blog about this a couple months back, but my friend Zach (ZforZombies.com) made me this awesome wood carving of Clint Howard from Ice Cream Man, which he then used to make 9 limited edition prints from (all of which he sent to me also), before painting over the carving and thus ensuring no other prints could ever be pulled from it. I don't know if you seen or like Ice Cream Man as much as I do, but I wanted you to have one anyway. Just a little something to show my appreciation for all the awesome things you have done for me. I know we keep saying we need to meet up and hang out, I just don't get my lazy ass into the city to often but rest assured, such an epic hangout will be happening soon enough!!! You rock man, hope all is well with you and yours.

Wow... I own the #5 print of a one of a kind wood carving... and yes, I do love 'Ice Cream Man' (it's so bad it's great!!!). Thanks Johnny... lets get that meet-up going soon!!!

Jon Wye Does T-Shirts Right!!!

I recently had the pleasure of meeting both Owner Jon Wye and President Jeff Ball of the Jon Wye, and boy was I impressed by their products. I came across there booth at the Grand Central Terminal's Holiday Festival through my other job, and had a chance to see the guys both set up and open their stand to the public. The guys were extremely friendly, and it was hard not to be drawn to their colorful T-shirt designs that mostly featured animals doing very non-animal type things. My favorite of the bunch would have to be Vegan Hare Hunter:

Upon talking with the fellas, I gained a bit of background on this wonderful company. They started out in DC, and have a stand at the famous Eastern Market where they sell their shirts, belts and other products. They also occupy space in the Limelight Marketplace, which is a retail mall that is housed inside the old Limelight nightclub on Ave of The Americas here in NYC. Jon started out making belts, belt buckles, and moved on to T-shirts and some of the other crazy products they carry, such as dog collars and aprons/chef hats with a Pirate Chef logo.
