The Movies Of Stanley Kubrick

Of all of these, my favorites are Dr. Strangelove and the first half of Full Metal Jacket.  I have to admit that I have never seen The Shining and got through about ten minutes of Eyes Wide Shut. Clockwork Orange freaks the hell out of me still but so did the novel it's based on. Barry Lyndon did nothing for me because I always have hated Ryan O'Neil. 2001? I hate to say I needed to see 2010 to fully get what was going on which made A Space Odyssey so much more enjoyable to watch the second or third time around.

Gallery 1988 Presents Crazy 4 Cult In NYC... And CCD Was There!!!

The CCD crew decided to venture into Manhattan and check out the Gallery 1988 art show Craxzy 4 Cult for ourselves on its opening night last week. It is a dope show, and my only knock on it was that it was in too small a space. People who were waiting to buy prints and pieces formed a line along one whole side of the gallery and prevented people from seeing that half of the show. But for the pieces that I did get a shot to see... all I can say is wow! There are some great pieces in the show, and I had to bust out the camera on my tablet to take some photos for all of you guys to see for yourself. It was crazy packed and hard to take pics, but I did my best. Not all of these will appear online (some are featured over at gallery 1988's website and many other sites like ours) so this might be the only chance you get to see it. The show runs through September, so try and get down to 64 Ganservoort St. and see the magnificent work for yourself. Check out my pics after the jump...

In Other News, Malcolm McDowell Just Don't Give A F@#K...

Malcolm McDowell is one of my favorite actors. He is one of those guys that has always caught my eye in every film he is in. I first remember seeing him in Time After Time, and then as a teen I discovered him in A Clockwork Orange & Caligula. And more recently I loved him in the Rob Zombie Halloween films as well as Gangster #1, which is one of the greatest gangster films ever made. I always loved Mr. McDowell, because the dude just brings it in every film.... but he also old now, and that means he just doesn't give a fuck about speaking candidly anymore! When people get old, they just seem to care less and less about being politically correct and what other people care about. While he sat down at the Hero Complex Film Festival with an LA Times writer at the 40th Anniversary screening for A Clockwork Orange for 15 minutes he went on to: Tell a story about Peter Sellers doing dope, talk about how he was unimpressed with Kubrick's genius, bashed The Avengers and other modern action movies, abused the Star Trek franchise and said just how much of favor he did Trekkies by killing Captain Kirk, abused Professor X's life, meeting Gene Kelly and just how fun the rape scene to Singing In The Rain was, and lamented the fact that he will never watch A Clockwork Orange again. All that in 15 minutes!!! I really love old people for the fact that they give way less than a fuck... and they are not afraid to tell you about it! Great interview all around. 'Day Of The Fight' - Stanley Kubrick's First Movie!!!

I love me some Stanley Kubrick... who can argue that he is one of the best directors of all time? A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket.... the list goes on and on! But before Private Pyle could blow away the drill sergeant or Alex could be cured of his ultra violence, Stanley was filming a 16 minute short film for Look Magazine about a boxing match between Walter Cartier & Bobby James. Watch this one after the jump and become a Kubrick completest like me....

Damn Alex... Your All Grows Up Now!!!!!

Thanks to the IndieWire blog Thompson On Hollywood and my boy Jeff Bond I got this wonderful 7 minute clip that features Malcolm McDowell talking about A Clockwork Orange. It's the 40th anniversary of the film and he is making the rounds discussing his role as the villainous Alex DeLarge. He also talk Kubrick... lots of Kubrick. That can never be a bad thing, and considering he is my favorite director I was paying very close attention for the full 7 minutes. Hope you enjoy one of the great actors of the last 40 years talking up a great film. And  for all you people who have never seen A Clockwork Orange... WTF are you waiting for!!!!

'I'd Buy That...As a Tee!' Vol 15 by Jeff Bond

Always on the look out for inspiring art... emblazoned across the chest of humanity. Here's some of the t-shirts I have my eye on to do just the trick but, there's only one problem....they aren't for sale yet! Please click the links below to the Threadless.com (my favoritest and most user friendly t-shirt contribution site) voting pages for each and give these beauties '5' ratings so I can throw 'em on my charge card one day.

Whomever is still unsure that Harry Potter is bad-ass, a week before the finale of the finales, need look no further than 'Scar Face'. A mash-up of epic proportions! Now if only someone would make a T-shirt with Tony Montana battling Death Eaters than that would just make my day.

'Drinky Kong'...A monkey after my own heart!

Olly Moss's Paper Cuts: Silhouettes Of Pop Culture Icons

Check out these awesome pieces that were put together by pop culture artist extraordinaire Olly Moss. For his show "Paper Cuts" Olly did side profiles of a wide array pop culture characters and real life people (over 100!!!) made out of black paper set on a white background. These are so cool. He adds color and details to each photo, and the details are amazing. These are the 10 I liked best. I picked some of the less obvious ones and ones that I thought would appeal to some of my good friends and CCD readers (you know who you guys are!!!). A Clockwork Orange: The Comic Book.... Viddy Well, Little Brother!!!

Comic artist/writer Kevin Colden loved the Anthony Burgess novel/Stanley Kubrick film A Clockwork Orange so much that he decided to come up with a graphic novel adaption of it... what a great fucking idea! How come no one had thought of this sooner? Anywho, Colden drafted a 150 page script from the original novel and came up with a few pages of concept art to pitch. Nothing has come of it yet, so Colden decided to release the art on his blog, Optical Disillusions.

Here is what Colden had to say about the project:
Every once in a while, like most comic creators, I'm asked the question "If you could do your dream project, what would it be?" For me, the answer is easy: for many years now, I've wanted to adapt Anthony Burgess' classic novel A Clockwork Orange into comics form. I'm not entirely sure why; I'm also a big fan of Stanley Kubrick's work, and no one could successfully argue that his iconic film adaptation is in need of improvement. Maybe I just like a good challenge. In any case, during the summer of 2009, I found myself dealing with a major family crisis and in need of something to keep my mind occupied during long interstate train rides and otherwise insanity-inducing idle time at my destination, and the one thing I found that could occupy mind enough was this long-dormant idea.
Sounds good to me... here are the pages he published. Click the link above and show him some love in his comments section. These are wonderful!!! My favorite part of them is the orange hue that each page has... very original and creepy. Enjoy!

Popsic Art: 3-D Pop Culture Art That Will Blow Your Mind

Every once and a blue we get dropped a line from somebody telling us what a good job we are doing here at CCD. Usually I think its bullshit, like Jeff logging in under a different name and blowing smoke up my ass. But when I checked the CCD Facebook page (become our friend) and got a really cool message from Joshua over at Popsic Art saying how much he liked what we were doing over here. I took one look over at his site, and I must say I feel the same way. Joshua, your artwork is phenomenal... and now its sharing time:
