Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies. It introduced the world to actors Nick Frost, Simon Pegg and director Edgar Wright... even though some where slightly familiar with them from a little British TV show called Spaced. The movie took a horrifying concept (a zombie outbreak) and added comedic twists to make the movie quite an adventure. It is a zany look at what people might ACTUALLY do in the terrible urgency of a Zombie Outbreak... and it is absolutely hysterical. Well another movie has come along that threatens to show a funnier side to another monster menace (this time vampires). And this one might even be funnier than Shaun of the Dead!!! 'What We Do In The Shadows' comes from the minds of Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement. They are the men behind the brilliant but underrated HBO TV show 'Flight of the Concords' and the romantic comedy 'Eagle vs Shark'... and they are bloody brilliant when it comes to quirky comedy. The New Zealanders team up once again to show the regular folks in the world what goes on in a house occupied by 3 Vampires. Viago, Vlad, and Deacon are three vampires of varying ages that have become housemates for eternity. In order to spice up their lives they decided to invite a documentary crew to follow them along and portray how vampires really live. But soon after they meet a super young vampire named Nick... and he is not down with the traditional living ideals of the trio and urges them to try some new stuff. The results seem to be quite humorous... and have a great buzz building around it after a solid showing at Sundance Film Festival. Maybe it can doe for Waititi & Clement what it did for the likes of Wright, Pegg, and Frost. I for one am anticipating it, and it is going to be released sometime this year pending who ends up with the rights to it... check out the full trailer for a small taste of what is in store for you!

Frank Browning & Freddy In Space Bring Us Some Tasty Horror Themed Ice Cream Treats in Series 4 Of 'Ben & Jerry's Horror Ice Cream Flavors'
I have frequently talked up my buddy Johnny's excellent horror website, Freddy In Space. The thing that Johnny does that makes his site so fantastic is that he knows he is the small guy on the block... in other words, there are many horror based web sites that are corporate run and have much more access to things than he does. But what he lacks in funding and access he makes up for in originality... and boy does Johnny have originality by the ton. Johnny has come up with tons of original posts, and they are unique to his blog. That what makes the Freddy In Space experience so fantastic. This summer Johnny teamed up with artist Frank Browning to come up with some awesomely horrific tasty treats... well at least mock ups of them anyway. There have been three series so far. You can see them here, here and here. But now its time for round 4... and these are some great ones! Check out the new series after the jump, and stop by Johnny's page to have a very unique horror experience!!!!

Shaun of the Dead: Lego-ized & Stylized
Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies of the past decade. I loved that freaking movie so much it hurts. It also helped introduce the world to actors Nick Frost & Simon Pegg, and director Edgar Wright. So how cool is it to come across a re-creation of the tavern in the film, The Winchester, made entirely of Legos? Pretty fucking cool... lol. Not only can you enjoy many detailed pics after the jump, but you can also learn how to create the set itself by clicking on this step by step website. I gotta think about putting my utter hatred for assembling Legos myself aside and make this display for my home office. I really might. Enjoy the pics after the jump...

Gallery 1988 Presents Crazy 4 Cult In NYC... And CCD Was There!!!
The CCD crew decided to venture into Manhattan and check out the Gallery 1988 art show Craxzy 4 Cult for ourselves on its opening night last week. It is a dope show, and my only knock on it was that it was in too small a space. People who were waiting to buy prints and pieces formed a line along one whole side of the gallery and prevented people from seeing that half of the show. But for the pieces that I did get a shot to see... all I can say is wow! There are some great pieces in the show, and I had to bust out the camera on my tablet to take some photos for all of you guys to see for yourself. It was crazy packed and hard to take pics, but I did my best. Not all of these will appear online (some are featured over at gallery 1988's website and many other sites like ours) so this might be the only chance you get to see it. The show runs through September, so try and get down to 64 Ganservoort St. and see the magnificent work for yourself. Check out my pics after the jump...

Shaun of Rage by Aled Lewis
I am getting super pumped up for the upcoming Crazy 4 Cult show here in NYC. The Gallery 1988 show opens this Thursday at the Gallery 1988 pop up shop and will run until September 1st. These shows always feature amazing mashup pieces from some of the greatest artists in the game and blow my mind consistently. The first piece I am featuring from the show (pieces are already starting to leak online) comes from Aled Lewis (one of the best doing it right now) and is a mashup of the side scrolling fighting game classic Streets of Rage with Edgar Wright's awesome zombie thriller Shaun of the Dead. I love seeing Shaun and Ed kicking zombie ass outside of the Winchester Pub. Sick piece from a sick collection. Can't wait to see the show opening night on Thursday!!!! Check out Lewis's piece after the jump...

Shaun of the Dead Movie Poster by William Henry
Shaun of the Dead is one of my all time favorite flicks. Edgar Wright killed it. So did Simon Pegg & Nick Frost. Anytime I see a new take on artwork for the film, I am going to get excited and probably post it here on CCD. Why? Because I can... and because Shaun of the Dead is just rad enough to warrant constant posts... Catch the full size poster from William Henry after the jump...

The Edgar Wright Triple Play At The Alamo Drafthouse Is Another Reason I Am Considering Moving To Texas...
God, the gang at the Alamo Drafthouse sure know how to put some interesting programming. This weekend they are hosting a triple play screening of Edgar Wright's three seminal movies: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim. Wow... just wow. How is there no Drafthouse here in NYC yet? what are you guys waiting on? WTF!!!! Anyway, Mondo commissioned Kevin Tong to create a triple bill poster to be sold at the event, similar to the ones created by DKNG Studios & CCD fave Alex Pardee last year for the L.A. triple bills that were shown. Pretty awesome stuff, all the way around. After the jump you can see Tong's unreal take on the three films, as well as the two older posters just cause they are fucking awesome...

"Attack The Block" is a Breath of Sci-Fi/Horror/Comedy Fresh Air
I attended an advance screening last night of "Attack The Block" in NYC. ATB is a UK imported film that has been tearing up the interwebs since it's screening at SXSW. It centers around a group of street kids defending their block against alien invaders.
It's being touted as a Sci-Fi "Shaun of the Dead," which is somewhat appropriate. It shares some Shaun Producers, most notably the talented Edgar Wright, and co-stars Shaun sidekick Nick Frost. It has been getting some severely high praise from numerous geek sites and blogs. Claims of it being brilliant and an instant classic have been rampant. Needless to say I was quite excited to see it for myself.
It's a good movie, not great, but good. It's very close to being great, but it never quite gets there. The narrative takes some risks, which I definitely admire, but they don't all pay off. It has one major flaw story wise, that could have been easily avoided, which I think prevented me from going all in on it. All that said, there is lots of cool here.
The aliens in this thing are some of the coolest designs I've seen in a long time. Like no other alien you've seen and totally scary. They are rendered and utilized fantastically and I never doubted them for a minute, which is saying a lot. The kids are equally believable. Relatively unknown, the young cast does a great job of selling us on the fantastic events that transpire. The leader John Boyega and one of the supporting kids Alex Esmail particularity stand out. They benefit from a tight script full of witty one liners, that progresses at a break neck speed never letting us catch our breath.
Writer/Director Joe Cornish definitely had a clear vision of what he was trying to do here. His first time directing a feature, he's mostly worked as a writer, with his biggest credit in the upcoming mammoth Tin Tin film as a screenwriter along side Edgar Wright and Steven Moffat (ridiculous). He does a great job here and the movie is slick and goal oriented. It's also pretty brutal.
It's a hard R rated film. There is loads of foul language from the kids with blood and violence galore Completely appropriate of the setting and a welcome change from the all too common PG-13 horror of late.
If I was 13 years old, I would be flipping out over this movie.A bunch of kids, protecting their neighborhood from aliens? That does make for instant classic, but perhaps just not for me. I had Monster Squad, and for lots of kids this is a movie that will be viewed many many times.
The movie is really trying to gather fan support, and while I didn't love it, I did enjoy it and definitely think there is an audience for it. In a sea of remakes and sequels it's a rare original, enjoyable movie. There is some concern about American audiences not understand the accents and whatnot which I think is nonsense. It really just needs a chance, and if it doesn't get it we're all but guaranteed to get an American remake thrown at us.
It opens limited in NY, LA and a few other cities on July 29th. Based on that it may open wider. I definitely encourage everyone to check the links and support The Block.

Llyod Stas Gives Edgar Wright's Filmography His Own Awesome Movie Posters
Check out these wonderful depictions of all of Edgar Wright's films by artist Llyod Stas. He was a big fan of Wright (as am I) and the dude crushed these. He even included Wright's iconic TV show "Spaced" and the movie that never was, the faux Grindhouse trailer "Don't". I love them all, but I gotta say Scott Pilgrim is by far my fave. The coolest thing about this whole bunch is that I found them over at Edgar Wright's official blog (click here to check it out). Wright re-posted them and came upon them on his own, and praises Stas's work as superb. Now that's gotta make ole Lloyd feel good, no? You can see more of his work by clicking here. Which one do you like the best? Tell us in the comment section below.

Snickers + Zombies = Survival
I have been watching a lot of the 2010 World Cup this week, and I keep seeing this new Snickers/Zombies at the office commercial... it's so cool that I wanted to share it with you guys. The only problem is I couldn't find it ANYWHERE (It's like I made it up in my head. No mention of it AT ALL on the web) Hopefully I will find it for you guys soon.
But when I was searching for the commercial on Youtube, I did come across this fanmade Snickers/Zombie commercial by Blinky 88888, and I thought it was pretty cool in a "Shaun of the Dead" type way. So I included it here. Nothing satifies like a Snickers...lol!!!
