The 'Godzilla' Remake Gets A Poster... Let The Weird & Wonderful Tie In Marketing Begin!!!!!!

As a long-time fan of the Godzilla movies and cousin to the biggest Godzilla fan ever (what up James West!) I for one am looking forward to the new Godzilla movie directed by Gareth Edwards (who directed the criminally under viewed 'Monsters'), mostly due to the amazing cast that will appear in the movie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olson, Brian Cranston, and Ken Watanabe just to name a few). A few days ago the first image of the actual Godzilla monster (above) was leaked due to a licensing convention in San Paolo, Brazil. It is the 1st time we see exactly what the monster looks like, and it looks like they have chosen to give him more human like facial features (as opposed to the over saturated CGI of the 90's version) and I am sold but, the key point is that the reveal was at a licensing expo, so that means product tie-ins. I don't know exactly what we will see in the future, but one item certainly has my attention. Godzilla Sake anyone???

Tuesday Triple Play From Sean Hartter

I love it when my boy Sean Hartter is productive, and boy has he been in the last few days. He has posted a ton of new pieces over at his website, but these three stand out as my faves. First up we get a neon version of Neil Blomkamp's District 9. Great colors on this one. Next up we get a classic mash-up of two great characters I would love to see clash, Conan & Godzilla. Imagine the war that would take place between teh great Gojira and Arnie? It would be epic! And finally we get a very cool faux VHS box art for Prometheus, which once again proves my point that Prometheus is a fucking Alien Prequel!!!! Damn you Jeff Bond... damn you to hell!!! Check out all of Sean's work by clicking here, and check out the three posters after the jump...

The Popular Face of NY: An Art Exhibit by Raid 71 @ Bottleneck Galleries NYC

Bottleneck Galleries is at it again, and to be honest with you this may be the most fitting show they have done so far. You see, Bottleneck is located right here in my current hometown of Brooklyn, NYC... and, well lets face it, they are one of the only galleries here in NY that are focusing on pop cultured themed art shows. So when I saw that the subject of their most current show from artists Raid 71 (who was featured here on CCD a few months back... yeah buddy!) was 'The Popular Face of NY', I had to smile a bit. What better place to highlight a bunch of NYC themed art then right in the heart of Brooklyn? It is a perfect fit.... and I am loving what I have seen from the previews over at the Bottleneck Blog. They have some excellent step by step photos over their that show how these magnificent pieces come together, so get over there to check out some of the behind the scenes work on how these pieces of art come together. The show premieres tonight at 7:00 pm (I am definitely going tonight!!!) and runs for two weeks until March 29th, so if you live in the area make sure you get out there and support this local gallery in bringing pop culture art to NYC. You can click on the shop page starting March 16th at noon to buy some of the prints if you can't make it out there in person. I recommend getting on there early, cause these prints are sure to go quick as hell. Check out some of my faves after the jump...

Olly Moss's Paper Cuts: Silhouettes Of Pop Culture Icons

Check out these awesome pieces that were put together by pop culture artist extraordinaire Olly Moss. For his show "Paper Cuts" Olly did side profiles of a wide array pop culture characters and real life people (over 100!!!) made out of black paper set on a white background. These are so cool. He adds color and details to each photo, and the details are amazing. These are the 10 I liked best. I picked some of the less obvious ones and ones that I thought would appeal to some of my good friends and CCD readers (you know who you guys are!!!). Click here to see all the rest of the pieces in Olly's awesome show.

Commercially Acclaimed: Vol.#20 - Godzilla vs. Charles Barkley For Nike

TV commercials are a part of our everyday lives as TV viewers. Even though Tivo and DVR have allowed us to "skip through" the commercials, the advertising companies are still trying to peak our interests by coming up with creative commercials. To me, great commercials are an art form and are under appreciated by a society that is always trying to speed through things. Think about it... how many times did you see a great commercial that made you laugh hysterically or want to go out and purchase the advertised product??? And how many times has the best part of the Super Bowl been the commercials during a blow out game??? Whether you want to admit it or not, commercials are cool as shit... and here are some of my favorites.

This week we got a vintage spot from Nike that pitted down low nightmare Charles Barkley 1 on 1 against the Tokyo Destroyer himself, Godzilla. This is from the classic era of Nike commercials (face it, they have some of the absolute BEST tv spots ever), and Barkley is great as the good guy who isn't afraid to get dirty. You gotta love the sports glasses that Godzilla pops on right before they start playing (in purple for Barkley's Phoenix Suns!!!). The effects were actually done by George Lucas's Industrial Light & Magic, which makes them automatically awesome.

***Bonus***

This was right around the time Nike began to embrace Barkley as the "anti-Jordan", the bad guy you could root for in contrast to Jordan's perfectly good guy. They even crossed over with Dark Horse comics to do a one shot featuring Barkley balling with the beast. How many atheletes can say that they starred in their own comic, and got to beat up on Godzilla? Here is the cover and some panel art. Enjoy!!!

I need this in my comic collection asap!!!

Barkley taking a shot at fellow Nike colleague Jordan and The Bulls

Holy Early 90's Euphamisms Batman!!!

Godzilla is definitely a Jordan Brand guy... lol

Alex Ross Does Godzilla For IDW... Your Welcome James West!!!

Check out this phenomenal cover art done by one of my favorite comic artists ever, Alex Ross, for the upcoming IDW Comics title Godzilla: Monster World. Wow. This looks great. The book is written by Eric Powell (of The Goon) and the art will be done by Phil Hester, with Ross supplying a special issue #1 cover as only he can! My cousin and fellow comic book geek James West is a huge Godzilla fan, and he takes extreme pride in his Marvel Comics Godzilla run of books from the 80's. The fact that they are making a new Godzilla book and it comes with this fantastic cover is sure to make his day. The title kicks off in March 2011 so make sure you hit up your mom & pop comic shops and support them when you are picking up this title. Mr. Ross, you are a god. Once again you have outdone yourself.

Like! Like? Volume #5

With all of the buzz around who may be the next Nolan casted 'Dark Knight' co-star, tumblr.com was abuzz with this unattributed work the posits CCD favorite Neil Patrick Harris as the next incarnation of Edward Nigma himself...'The Riddler' and noticeably Phillip Seymour Hoffman has made top billing...as 'Penguin' I presume. This work remains unattributed since it's probably been bouncing around since the first installment of Nolan's film trilogy. If you know who this creative son of a gun is...please feel free to let us, at CCD, know!

Justin Hillgrove has some chibi styled art over at his page that I dug. From 'Lord of the Rings' magic...

To a this great villain Birthday party....

Then he has this Star Wars Wampa getting his just desserts!....

...and these Star Wars Jawas getting there's!
