Why Don't Major Cities Like NYC Follow The Genius Marketing Ideas of Disney???

Disney is a company of questionable marketing practices. On one hand they continue to drop the ball on promoting really good movies like Tron: Legacy & John Carter, who are then viewed as flops because they are promoted ineffectively. On the other hand they have a 70+ year history as a top tier animation house and they own/operate the two largest theme parks in the USA. So maybe cities like NYC, that are constantly complaining that they need to raise more money, should follow Disney down certain marketing plans. Case in point: Disney is using it's monorail system at its theme parks to promote the upcoming super movie, The Avengers. They have done this in the past (I specifically remember them doing this for Tron) and it makes perfect sense... the monorails are in constant view of a ton of people and moves throughout the surrounding areas of the parks. It's a billboard on wheels. So why doesn't NYC and other cities with extensive train systems allow companies to purchase train exteriors to wrap in advertising? What difference does it make? The train interiors are already FILLED with ads... but why not use the outside, which is visible to EVERYBODY in the surrounding areas, whether they actually ride the train or not? Tron: The Next Day by JediRob

'Tron: Legacy' was one of my top anticipated movies last year. After all was said and done, it wasn’t quite a life changing experience, but with such ridiculous buildup, how could it be. I did enjoy it quite a bit, though. It was pretty much what I should have expected from a Tron sequel, and it was a ton of fun. I dug the Father and Son story, loved that it was a sequel and not just a straight up remake, enjoyed the Daft Funk score (robbed of an Oscar nod) and a showdown between 2 Jeff Bridgeses?!

Come oooon! Great stuff.

Check out Deviant Artist Sean Prodi's take on Jango & Boba Fett, all Tron-ified and shit! I'm with it... the illuminated armor makes these two that much cooler. I also like that Sean chose blue (Tron & the good guys) for Jango and Orange (Clu & the bad guys) considering how the characters played out. Jango wasn't so bad until Obi Wan brought it to his ass... and Boba is gangster to the core. Very fitting. Marvels Mightiest Heroes Get The Tron Treatment

If there is one thing that Disney knows how to do, its collaborate. It makes it a bit easier when you are collaborating in house. Last week we show you guys the Toy Story/ Tron mashup the guys from Pixar did. Now we get Disney's newest business partner, Marvel, in on the act. Check out these cool variant covers that will be hitting stores soon featuring some of the most impressive characters in the Marvel Universe. Cal ran these puppies a few days ago, and other sites started putting em up yesterday, so I just wanted to keep my CCD'ers in the loop.

Well Hello Beau Garrett... Who The Hell Are You???

This is a new Hungarian (really???) movie poster from the upcoming Disney blocksbuster Tron: Legacy. This one features Beau Garrett as Jem, one of the Sirens. These Sirens operate the Grid Game Armory. I have one question though... where have you been hiding the lovely Beau Garrett in your marketing ads??? God damn, I think I want to see her up on the big screen a bit more than Olivia Wilde... alright, I am lying. I can't wait to see 'em both!!! Enjoy the poster. The film comes out in December.

Oh Flynn, where have you been my whole life? Well, not my whole life... basically since 1982... 28 years? It's been 28 years? This guy has got to be considered the absolute worst dad ever, no? Tron came out 28 years ago... God damn I am old.... check out this new Flynn banner that was on display outside Comic Con, and is sure to be up on the corner of Santa Monica and Westwood Blvd in LA next... check out our post featuring the first seven banners that have been released here.

I Wish I Lived In Cali Right Now...

Thanks to the guys over at /film, I am able to see the 7 different Tron: Legacy billboards that have been put up over the past 6 months at the intersection of Santa Monica and Westwood Boulevards in Los Angeles... despite that fact that I am over 3,000 miles away. Apparently Disney rented the billboard for 1 whole year, starting in December of 2009. That will lead right up to the December 2010 release of the long awaited sequel. This was one of my all time favorite movies of my childhood, and I can not f'n wait to see this movie with  my son Mikey. So far there have been 7 banners, and since they have changed the banners roughly every 5 weeks we should be seeing a lot more. Here you go... are you guys excited for this movie even though its been 25+ years in the making??? Do you not even know what Tron is??? Let us know what you think in the comment section below.

The Light Cycles in Tron Legacy Are Giving Me A Nerd Boner

I was only 3 years old when the original Tron came out. I do not remember it in theaters, but back then  things were a bit slower then they are now, and it took a while for it to hit VHS. I must have been around 5 or so the first time I saw Tron, and it blew me away. The visuals were stunning, and despite the fact I had no comprehension of what was actually going on with the highly technical story, it looked cool as shit. The standout cool item of the movie, for me anyway, was the light cycles. Suped up motorcycles of the future, these light cycles made for some of the coolest features in the movie. I also remember going to the Bow Wow, a local video aracde, and playing the Tron game... which featured the aforementioned light cycles... many a quarter was pumped into those machines!!! So naturally, when I heard that 28 years later (Thats soooo long) there was going to be a Tron sequel, I hoped and prayed they would get the light cycles right... and it looks like they did.  In the 'Legend of Zelda' game for the original Nintendo Entertainment

System, there were these little evil-doers which resembled a delicious

stack of buttery pancakes and whose sole mission were to suck you dry of a hard earned weapon you had just paid mucho rupees for. These fortunate little bottom-feeders were called Like-Likes. That is why I decided to name a new feature article I will be preparing for 'Cultural Compulsive Disorder' after them. Like the fortunate bottom-feeder that I am, I will be scouring the blogosphere for loose related images, video clips, and articles that I found interesting, exciting, or maddening on other blogsites. Things that someone else has, no doubt, painstakingly worked on for weeks, even months, yet I will show no remorse borrowing from them and regurgitating on C-C-D, for you guys to appreciate as well, with all due credit given to it's origins, of course. Director Gus Van Sant did an article with Madonna for a recent 'Interview' Magazine spread. The article delves mostly into Madonna's recent movie making and philanthropic efforts but the photos are delicious and Madonna is looking a lot like the Madonna I was first introduced to in the '80s in them. maybe it's just the religious undertones
