Wrestling played a huge role in most nerds lives back in the 70s/80s/90s and is still really popular today. The WWF/WWE, WCW, NWA, ECW and other organizations all gave us some memorable characters to cheer and jeer over the years. But some of those performers were lucky enough to expand their careers beyond the squared circle and branch out into acting... well, lets just say that they were in some movies (not much ACTING really taking place in most of these roles!). Some are no brainers, like Hulk Hogan in Rocky 3 or Jesse Ventura in Predator. But what about some of the others through the years? Beautiful Creatures: How Can A Film Be So Good Yet Get The Story Adaption So Wrong? A Rant by Mike CCD

Last night was Valentines Day, and my fiance and I do not like to get caught up in all the schmoes that go out to dinner on that night. Everyplace is packed and uncomfortable, and we hate it. So we decided to take a short drive into New Jersey to attend a movie at an AMC Dine IN Theater. This is a movie theater with super comfy leather recliners, a full on dinner menu, and alcoholic beverages... basically it is heaven on earth. We decided to see Beautiful Creatures, the book adaption that is set to be the next franchise type event series. It is based on a book series by Kami Garcia & Margret Stohl. There are four books in the series, and since Tara and I like these types of books we decided to grab the set about a month ago in preparation for the upcoming movie. The book revolves around two teenagers, a boy that is native to South Carolina named Ethan and the new girl who just moved into town named Lena. In this small town things don't change often, so when Lena shows up as the relative to the town outcasts she starts a stir. But things are a bit complicated because Ethan knows her... well, actually he has been dreaming of her for the past few months. There is something about this girl... and after they begin to connect Ethan finds out that Lena is a Caster (a sort of witch) who comes from a long line of casters. Not only is he dating a teenage witch, but there are many other things that are not quite right in Gatling, South Carolina. Lets just say things get a bit strange... in a good way. As they couple speeds towards Lena's 16th birthday (the day which she is claimed for The Light or The Dark), things get quite hectic. Tara and I flew threw the first book, and we were super hyped to see how it converted to the screen. We got that chance on Thursday, but the results weren't quite what we had hoped for. But they weren't exactly bad results either. Check out the rest after the jump....

2012: The Cinescape by Matt Shapiro- The Coolest Movie Recap Video Ever!!!

Matt Shapiro is only 20 years old but has built up quite the tradition over the past few years by putting out his Cinescape recap videos every year around New Years. He makes a super cut of all the movies that get released in a calendar year and does a great job bunching like themed shots together to make  a very cool video. You can check his Youtube page here and his Vimeo page here to see all his past work, but this 2012 video is his best work so far. Unfortunately Connie Francis has made a complaint to Youtube for him using one of her songs and the video is currently down on Youtube (fuck you Connie Francis... it's not like Shapiro is trying to profit from your shitty old ass music), but the Vimeo embedded is still up and running so that is what I posted after the jump. Cool Video: Movie Titles In The Movies

Sometimes movie titles just make sense. They click right away with the action that takes place within the movie and the titles make perfect sense. Think Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Pretty much flows, right? But every once in a while screenwriters think you may be too dumb to understand exactly what the title of a movie means. Either that, or these screenwriters just get lazy and plug the title into the script. One way or another, here are a few examples of the actual title being used in the dialogue of the movie. In some cases it certainly does help out. Check out the clip after the jump....

SUPPORT UNRATED HORROR: GO SEE HATCHET 2 IN THEATERS!!!

I am a big fan of horror movies, and thanks to my work with CCD I have started to reap the benefits of being a part of the "press". I was recently approved for press credentials for the upcoming Big Apple Comic Con and New York Comic Con, and I was also invited to a press conference involving scream queen and CCD fave Danielle Harris. Danielle, of the original Halloween 4 & 5 and Rob Zombies Halloween 1 & 2. was recently at Planet Hollywood to donate a prop hatchet from the set of her new movie, Hatchet 2. This was CCD's first press conference (yeah son) and was really cool. Take a look at some of the video we shot (the lighting in the place was terrible, so the picture is a bit dark... but the audio is great!)

Very cool stuff. We had a chance to sit down and interview Danielle for about 30 min (coverage of that will come to CCD early next week). one of the topics was Hatchet 2 being release UNCUT AND UNCENSORED in AMC theaters across the country. This is the first time in over 25 years (almost since the beginning of ratings) that a film has been widely released in mainstream theaters sans a rating, completely uncensored. This is not NC-17 (which is bad, but still rated)... this is raw dog horror on the big screen son!!! Adam Green's maniac killer Victor Crowley is leading charge to a new way of cinema, and if Hatchet 2 is successful then I am sure it will lead to many more widely released uncut versions of films... which we here at CCD are fully supportive of.

So how can you help? Get out to an AMC and buy some tickets to see Hatchet 2!!! It opens today, and if it's anything like Adam Green's first classic movie, then you are in for a treat. Being that it's October, lets start getting in the Halloween mood now. I am attending the 10:35 show tonight at Time Square AMC, and Danielle Harris will be there in person to intro the film. Come join us... go out and support INDEPENDENT UNCENSORED HORROR tonight!!! For The Young Horror Fan In Your Life

R.L. Stine created the Goosebump childrens horror series back in 1992, and all he has done is publish 150 titles and sell over 300 million books. 300 MILLION BOOKS. That puts it right behind Harry "F'n" Potter on the all time sales figure list. The books have spawned video games, a TV series, toys and board games, and finally... a real deal studio movie!!! Columbia Pictures has picked up the rights a few years back, and now they got the screenwriter from Disturbia, Red Eye, and The Last House on The Left remake Carl Elsworth to get cracking on a script. Those are some really hardcore titles for a kid-type movie, but I like it... I hope they make this a dark pg-13 type flick that will give teens something else to watch besides Kristen Stewart looking mad all the time and Robert Pattinson's hair growing any further out from his head. I'm not a Twilight hater, but it would be nice to see some spooky stuff for the kids. My 7 year old son Mikey likes horror type stuff, but he is just a bit to young for The Human Centipede, ya know what I'm saying? This could be a great series if they get it right... lets hope they do!!! 

3 Titans Of Horror Check Back In With New Flicks...

... and I wonder if any of them will be any good. Wes Craven, Joe Dante, and John Carpenter all have new features coming out in the next couple of weeks, and I for one am excited about all of the releases. But that is probably the optimist in me. Craven and Dante have not done movies in quite a bit, and Carpenter's last few outings were terrible at best (except Vampires, that movie is fucking boss!!!). Due to their pedigree as horror movie icons behind the lens, I am looking forward to see if they can regain some past glories. Lets see what they got coming up.

Wes Craven - My Soul To Take 3-D

So this is Wes Craven's triumphant return behind the camera, his first turn as a director since 1994's New Nightmare. In this one, we get a new serial killer named the Ripper. He vows to return and kill all the babies that were born the night he met his demise after being caught. Now the 7 kids that were brought into the world that faithful night must struggle to stay alive when Rip comes back to make good on his promise. This one looks creepy enough, and maybe Craven can take a cast of relative unknowns to the same heights he did with the guys and gals from Scream. We shall see. This one opens October 9th.

Joe Dante - The Hole 3-D

I love Joe Dante... absolutely love him and his films. I think its because he made some dark and twisted horror movies that were also kid and family friendly... but still scared you a bit. Not to mention that Gremlins and the 'Burbs are two of my all time favorite movies. Now he checks back with his first film in quite a bit, and it sounds right up his alley. 3 kids find a trap door in their basement, and when they figure out that it is pretty much bottomless, they begin to wonder where it goes... and what the fuck can be down there. I love this premise, kind of like The Gate from the 80's but with updated technology to make the inner workings of the hole kinda awesome. This one should be getting released shortly, although no release date has been set. Lets hope Dante still got that magic... I sure hope so.

John Carpenter - The Ward

Now we get to what might be the most troubling entry on this list. John Carpenter is a horror god. Halloween is one of the best, if not the best, horror movie ever made (that's open to debate... everyone has their faves). Carpenter hasn't directed a movie since Ghosts of Mars, and Ice Cube has to be thanking god for that. The movie was pretty awful, and that's me being generous. But now Carpenter is coming back with a new flick, and this one has hotties Amber Heard and Danielle Panabaker living in a mental institution. Now we know the chicks are cute, but will the movie be any good??? That's probably the question everybody is asking, including Carpenter. We will have to see...

Well Hello Beau Garrett... Who The Hell Are You???

This is a new Hungarian (really???) movie poster from the upcoming Disney blocksbuster Tron: Legacy. This one features Beau Garrett as Jem, one of the Sirens. These Sirens operate the Grid Game Armory. I have one question though... where have you been hiding the lovely Beau Garrett in your marketing ads??? God damn, I think I want to see her up on the big screen a bit more than Olivia Wilde... alright, I am lying. I can't wait to see 'em both!!! Enjoy the poster. The film comes out in December.

Gran Apertura Vol#6- xXx

Gran Apertura means "Great Opening" in Italian. I felt it was an appropriate title for the new column I will be writing here at C-C-D. I love movies, but every once in a blue there is an opening segment in a movie that just sets the bar way to high for the rest of the flick. This opening scene is so good, it can't be topped by the rest of the movie itself. Or, sometimes the opening scene is part of an excellent film, and it does the job of getting you roped in. No matter what, the opening scene in a movie is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT scene in the whole film. So this column will highlight some of the greatest opening segments from the wide world of cinema. If you like what you see, maybe you will go ahead a check out the films in completion. Happy Viewings!!!

xXx - 2002 - Directed By: Rob Cohen Starring: Vin Diesel, Asia Argento, Samuel L. Jackson

Now, I know that xXx was not the greatest movie in the world, but it was kinda cool in terms of an action/ popcorn flick it does ok. Vin Diesel is cool as Xander Cage, aka xXx, a rebel who causes all types of shit to stir up controversy and has finally gone to far. He is approached by Augustus Gibbons (Samuel Jackson) who works for the NSA with a plan to infiltrate a anarchist group in eastern Europe. I know, its a stretch, but Diesel is wonderful as X and he makes me laugh and is a bad ass. Not to mention Asia Argento is a hot piece of arse...

Thats good enough for me. The opening scene has nothing to do with the characters we have discussed so far, but instead shows a random NSA agent recovering some sort of microchip, and then being chased by some Eastern European criminal types. He runs right into a Rammstein (the German death metal band) concert which is sick, filled with flames and a guy with a flame thrower face mask (that shit is sick). Next we meet sharpshooter Kirill, who pops our NSA doof as he crosses the dancefloor from the balcony. All in all, a great scene. Netflix Instant Streaming Picks: 8/13/2010

Hey folks, I'm backkkkkkkkkkk!!! Believe it or not, my Wii has not burnt out yet from Instant Streaming Netflix... I know, I know, I am shocked as well. But I am truly enjoying my time off this summer by immersing myself in the massive selections offered from Netflix. Here are a few I think you should take the time to check out:

Rampage - 2009

Ok, so you must discount a few things before you watch this one. First of all, this is a Uwe Boll is the director. I know that might automatically turn you off (if you have ever had to sit through the drudge that is a Uwe Boll movie you would understand) but this time it is different. Uwe embraces his love of video games and creates a scray look into what can happen when a regular person loses his shit and can not take it anymore. A few orders from HSN and sometime building a bulletproof suit, and they are fully ready to unleash hell on the unsuspecting townsfolk in middle America. Brendan Fletcher has been in a ton of Uwe Boll shitfests, so his patience finally pays off with this great portrayal of a 20 something kid who just loses sight of reality. Tons of violence, and the senseless kind... which is the best, isn't it? Thanks to our girl KMG for the recommendation.

Gangster #1 - 2000

I have a confession to make. My name is Mr. Mike D, and I absolutely love English Cinema. Love it... can't get enough of it. Those blokes across the pond just have a way with movies, especially crime capers. The Krays, Rock n Rolla, Layer Cake, Snatch, Lock Stock, The Football Factory.... these guys really get the crime movies down pat. Paul McGuigan outdoes himself with Gangster #1... hands down. I liked his other films (Lucky Number Slevin, Push) but this 2000 movie ranks up in my top 20 all time. There are millions of reasons why, but the 3 that stand out the most are: 1) Malcolm McDowell and Paul Betanny 2) The story spans 30 years, and you feel like you know these characters by the end of the movie, and 3) these English motherfuckers are ruthless... a hatchette, really??? Anyway, you need to make this happen, as well as all of those movies I mentioned above, because if you like gangster movies than English Cinema is a refreshing break from the Italian gangster and latino drug dealer movies we get over here.

Time After Time - 1979

For my last pick of the week, I thought I would take it back a tad. This 1979 thriller features the comprobable Malcolm McDowell (I know, two movies with the same guy... so what, he is a genius!) as author H.G Wells. Wells is considered by most to be the father of science fiction, and in this movie he actually creates a time machine like the one from his classic novel (and the Guy Pierce movie). After showing his house guests his new invention and being dismissed by them as crazy, the cops show up at his door. They have figurd out the mystery of Jack the Ripper, and the killer is one of his guests. As they look around, they realize one of the guests is missing. As the people chalk it up to a mere escape, Wells knows better. He goes to the basement, and the time machine is gone. But it suddenly reappears, without Jack the Ripper, because if you time travel without the key it automatically returns home. Wells gets in and follows the coordinates that Jack used, taking him to 1979 San Fransisco. Trying to hun the killer in a strange time and place makes the job even tougher, and since late 70's America is so violent ole Jack fits right in. Can Wells find Jack and bring him back to 1893 England for justice??? Watch the movie and find out.

Trailer Trash Talking - Vol#7 by Kristen Grillo

Love Ranch- Directed by: Taylor Hackford Starring: Helen Mirren, Joe Pesci, Gina Gershon Release Date: June 30, 2010 (limited)


Greetings, followers. It’s been a while. And I’ve missed you (sort of).

So, speaking of feelings of longing, a few weeks back on a brisk, spring evening, I caught a sweet, little Joe Pesci marathon on the tube. Goodfellas was playing on AMC (for most likely, the 56th time that week) while Showtime was playing Casino, my personal favorite out of the two. Like a swift, channel surfing genius, I found myself watching the two side by side. I also found myself asking… “where the fuck IS Joe Pesci?” It was that moment that I realized how much I missed the little creature.

Well, have no fear. He’s been found….



“There’s no business like hoeeeeee business!” Ahhh…doesn’t it feel good to see his face again?. Even if it is lookin’ a little weather beaten.

Based on “true events” (that’s actually code word for 98.6% fictional), Love Ranch is about Charlie & Grace Botempo, a husband and wife duo (Pesci & Mirren) who own and run Nevada’s first ever hoe house. Set in the late 1970’s, all in all is pretty much business as usual until Charlie hires Armando Bruza, a famous heavy weight boxer (played by newbie Sergio Peris–Mencheta) who comes to the ranch to train as part of the Charlie’s growing entrepreneurial efforts. Bruza apparently has the cougar fever and pursues Charlie’s bride which then erupts into an unforeseen love triangle, causing madness and mayhem in hooker paradise.

While not so fresh at the surface (and I ain’t talkin’ about the hoes, folks), it’s the key players that make Love Ranch so appealing. Pesci’s on screen return has certainly got my juices flowing & Mirren is fantastic in anything that she does. I am pretty excited about this one. Now, I know that might not be enough reassurance for some of you but you should really consider the “Over 60 & Sexy” hotness that is the Dame Helen Mirren. Y’all know who you are. And if old broads ain’t yer bag, there’s always Gina Gershon. “Hoein’ it up since 1991,” - a tagline that I’m sure is pretty much listed somewhere on her resume. Or maybe it’s “Nobody does hoe better.” Whatever.

OK, OK... you made it through another week. And even though the weekend starts at 5 pm on Friday, most of us really don't start to enjoy our weekend until Saturday morning. Waking up and not having to go to the hell hole of a job that you occupy during the week is a relief of epic proportions. You can do whatever you want, and usually for me that involves wanting to hit up a movie theater at some point. The reasons why its a great idea to go to the movies are endless, but one reason I like it is that its a short term event (like 2,3 hours tops) that you can fit in anytime during a busy weekend. We all know whats playing at the Multiplex... everyday we are bombarded with ad's for movies in the newspaper, on the train, and on the radio. My then 3 year old son used to ask me what the date was, and when I would tell him, he would then immediately shout out the big movie that was opening that week. But in most cities across the US, there are alternative/boutique type theaters that show mostly independent and revival films. The independents are cool, but the revival films are the best. What better way to relive your childhood then seeing "Gremlins" on the big scree en after 20 years. Or maybe getting a chance to see something at the movies that you weren't around to see during it's original run. Either way it's a great activity for day or night. Here was going on in movies this week. Enjoy the fresh popcorn !!!

Pick of the Week:

Coming To America - Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Directed by John Landis

This 1988 classic comedy is one of the FUNNIEST MOVIES EVER MADE. I have never met anyone who has told me they ddn't love this movie. Murphy plays a Prince Hakeem from the land of Zamunda, and Hall plays his trusty sidekick Semi. They travel to NY to find a worthy bride for Hakeem... and what better place to start then Queens??? Murphy and Hall play like 40 characters in diferent costumes, one better then the next. Highlight of the movie was definetly the bar sequence when they are interviewing prospective women for Hakeem. Absolutely hysterical. You will love this movie on the big screen, if you can hear it over all the laughter in the theater.

The One and Only... The most SHOCKING Movie EVER FILMED!!! The movie that started the documentary style horror genre made famous by The Blair Witch Project. When this movie came out in 1980, it was banned in its home country of Italy as well as Britain and Canada... all because they thought director Ruggero Deodato really killed actors during filming!!! This movie is playing @ Landmark Sunshine Cinemas tonight at 12:05 ONLY. Deodato is rumored to be attending the showiing, so this will be a great experience. (212)-330-8182.

This Movie Is Gonna Be Sick... and I Dont Mean Sick In A Good Way

I heard about this movie a ways back, but now as the release date is approaching, controversy is starting to swirl. Now, for the record, I am hardcore horrorhound... I live for disturbing shit. I was watching Faces of Death when most kids were still watching Silver Spoons... But this one might even be to much for me. The 59 second trailer freaked me out... so whats the hour and a half feature gonna do? How much is to much??? Here's a better question: How do the people who come up with this shit avoid suspicion of being a serial killer of Dahmer like porportions??? How is this kind of stuff turned in to movie making companies or publishing houses and they get a greenlight instead of getting foward to Agent Clarice Starling of the FBI I have no idea. Let us know if you plan on seeing or skipping this one... I cant wait to see the comments you crazies leave. Also, whats the sickest thing you ever watched??? Which movie made you squirn the most???
