The CCD Podcast: Episode #100 - Is Wrestling Popular Again?

We  tackle many pop culture topics here at CCD, but one that we tend to champion is Wrestling. Some of the greatest pop culture moments of the 80s & 90s happened in the squared circle... and for a while it seemed as if those moments would never again reach the heights they once did. Would this next generation of talented ring performers like Zack Ryder & Finn Balor ever reach the wildly popularity of Macho Man and Ricky Steamboat? Hmmmm..... yet it seems the "sport" of wrestling has seen quite an epic resurgence in the past year or so. Is it because the product is back to what it used to be... or is it because more of the old school fans are making their way back as they become parents and their kids start watching? All of these are part of the reason, but whatever you think the ultimate answer is simple: WRESTLING IS BACK!!!!

Jedi Rob sits down with CCD's wrestling experts, super fan Joey Armao and founder of the SRG Universe Steve Resk to talk about the current resurgence wrestling is experiencing. A perfect way to celebrate episode #100...

The CCD Podcast: Episode #86 - The Royal Rumble Preview & Memories With Breaking Kayfabe Radio

We love to talk wrestling here at the CCD Podcast, especially when we have an upcoming Pay Per View event on the horizon. It gets us all nostalgic for past Pay Per Views where we saw tons of cool matches and larger than life personalities that we felt would never be topped again... and as time has gone on, we still can get some pretty great matches and cool wrestlers popping up on the scene to keep us coming back. For this episode we decided to reach out to the guys from our favorite wrestling themed podcast, Breaking Kayfabe Radio, to have them come into the CCD Nerd Cave a talk about great Royal Rumble memories old and new.... it may not always be as good as the old days, but you can never make new amazing memories from the squared circle unless you keep watching!

Long live the Battle Royal, the best type of wrestling match there ever was!!!!

On The 2nd Day of Christmas, CCD Gave To Me.....

... Twins from the WWE!!! The Bella Twins are two of the most well known Divas (female wrestlers) in the WWE, and they are also quite attractive. That made them a no-brainer for our day 2 entry in our 6th Annual 12 Days of Christmas-y Sexy Women list! Brie and Nikki have been setting rings on fire for years now, and they are sure to give a snowman a melting malfunction if they should be near! Pics after the jump, and make sure you check back everyday between now and Christmas for the latest entries!

The Deadman, The Phenom...The Undertaker. The greatest of all time?....Arguably. Completely unique, logic defying and influential beyond measure? Without a doubt. The CCD Podcast: Episode #78 - 25 Years of The Undertaker or 'All Hail The Dead Man..."

Thinking back on all the wrestlers that have come and gone through the years, there are very few that have had the impact that Undertaker has had. Over his 25 year career he has been one of the most dominant forces in the WWF/E and people who root for good guys AND bad guys alike love the big dead bastard. With the 2015 Survivor Series on the horizon (he made his premiere at the 1990 Survivor Series), we decided to enlist some heavy hitters in the wrestling world to celebrate the career of such an icon. Jedi Rob is joined by Steve Resk, founder of the first unpredictable card game The Supershow & wrestler Eric Draven, the definition of Authority & Sexiness in the CCD Nerd Cave and make podcast magic! All hail the Dead Man...

I Hope They Have Some Bubble Gum In Heaven: An Obituary for Rowdy Roddy Piper by J.C. Rebstock

“Just when they think they got the answers, I change the questions.”

“Rowdy” Roddy Piper was a bad man. You didn’t have to watch him long to learn that; he’d tell you straight to your face. “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka, Greg Valentine, Hulk Hogan, Mr. T, it didn’t matter to the Hot Rod who you were, how good you thought you were, what you’d done in the ring, on TV, whatever. If you crossed his path, if you fell into Piper’s Pit, he would tear you a new one. Or he’d clunk you with a coconut; that worked, too.

The CCD Podcast: Episode #52 - Wrestlers in the Movies or "What Do You Mean You Haven't Seen "The Marine Part 7"? What Are You Waiting For?"

Wrestling played a huge role in most nerds lives back in the 70s/80s/90s and is still really popular today. The WWF/WWE, WCW, NWA, ECW and other organizations all gave us some memorable characters to cheer and jeer over the years. But some of those performers were lucky enough to expand their careers beyond the squared circle and branch out into acting... well, lets just say that they were in some movies (not much ACTING really taking place in most of these roles!). Some are no brainers, like Hulk Hogan in Rocky 3 or Jesse Ventura in Predator. But what about some of the others through the years? Check out wrestling fanatics Jedi Rob, Joey Esq, and The Supershow creator Steve Resk as they go through some of the best (or worst?) roles that wrestlers filled through the years! Episode #52 is up...

The CCD Podcast: Episode #20.5 - 'No Holds Barred' .5 Movie Review or "And Now Introducing... DEBOOOOOO!!!!"

No Holds Barred is one of the greatest hot messes to ever make it to the movie screen. At the height of the WWF's success in 1989, Vince McMahon put his biggest star Hulk Hogan in a movie that the WWF produced. They also introduced ole Debo himself, Zeus aka Tiny Lister. And that is where the wheels really come off.... this madcap wrestling flick is one of the late 80s greatest gems... so Jedi Rob, Steve and Joey Esq break it on down for ya. A small, short, .5 episode for that ass... What ya gonna do, when Hulk let's those 24 inch PYTHONS loose on you!!!!

All in all a fun little trip that will bring you back to the times of the Hulkster, Sean Michaels, Brett Hart, Randy Macho Man, The Ultimate Warrior, Jake the Snake, Mega Bucks, Mega Powers, and so much more.... Happy 61st Birthday Hulkster!!!

Hulk Hogan has crossed over from just being known as a wrestling superstar to being recognized by pretty much anyone with a pulse. Everyone knows Hulk, whether they watch wrestling or not. So this past week saw Hulk turn 61, and Vince McMahon and the WWE paid tribute to the aging vet with a classic party right in the ring on Monday Night Raw!!! Plenty of guests showed up, including: Jimmy Heart, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Ric Flair, and even a mustachioed Paul 'Mr. Wonderful' Orndorf!!! And then we even get to see the Hulster reunite with The Outsiders, NWO style! Holy shit, what a great tribute. Check out the full clip after the jump... for all the 80s babies who loved them a true American hero!

X-Men, Wu-Tang and Wrestlers... Oh MY! The Eclectic Artwork Of Erle Tompkins

You know that saying "never judge a book by its cover" that is always thrown around so willy nilly? Yeah, I never really subscribe to that theory. I tend to be very observant of people on purpose... and I can usually figure out people pretty well. I have an especially keen 'bullshit detector' sense as well... one that very rarely fails me. I had made the acquaintance of a very talented artist, Erle Tompkins, a few years back and I must say that in this case I was completely off in my judgement. His cousin Frank introduced us, and we hit it off right away with geek talk galore (mostly about comic book movies). He told me he did some art, and I told him to email me. He never did... and I assumed that he must not be very talented. I would see him from time to time, and always it was pleasant to see him. But every time we chatted, still no email and still no artwork. So I just chalked it up to him being not all that good and getting cold feet sending it to me. This weekend I ran into Erle, and he pulled up an X-Men movie universe piece he had just finished working on. Although I was looking at it on a 5 inch I Phone screen, I instantly realized that my man Erle had something... and I couldn't wait to see more. I told him that he needed to email me this instantly, and that I wanted to see more immediately. I made him do it right in front of me so he didn't "forget" to do it later. I forced his hand... and I am able to write this article about his awesome art because of it.

See more after the jump...

RIP Ultimate Warrior - Off To The Squared Circle In The Sky

As I said in my Wrestlemania review, coming out of this weekend, I was more excited to be a wrestling fan than I have been in a very long time. Unfortunately, that excitement has been tempered by the sad and untimely passing of the Ultimate Warrior this past Tuesday. If you were a wrestling fan in the late 80's and early 90's, then the Ultimate Warrior was part of your fandom, no question. Personally, I was a Randy Savage kid. In fact, my fandom of the big three went Savage, then Hogan, and then Warrior. But even with that said, Warrior's passing is definitely another little part of my childhood that’s now been snuffed out, and too early at that, because he was only 52 years old. He'd just mended his bridges with the WWE, was inducted into the Hall of Fame and was getting ready  to assume the role of some kind of goodwill ambassador with the company. And again, even though I was never the biggest Warrior fan, I was definitely looking forward to seeing what this would entail.
