Is Keyzer Soze John Doe? Is John Doe Keyzer Soze? A Video Explanation By Tony Stark

The Usual Suspects & Se7en were two classic movies that were released in 1995 and share a few key components. Most notably the villain in both films is played by a relatively young in his career actor, Kevin Spacey. Up until that point Spacey had been a supporting bit actor in a few TV shows & movies, but after 1995 he became a much sort after commodity. Both films were created by promising young directors (Bryan Singer on The Usual Suspects, David Fincher on Se7en) early on in their careers, and both featured twisting plots that ultimately lead to dramatic final act twist of events. Epic final act twists... the kind that are legendary in the film industry. Also the kind that pretty much can't exist anymore due to the Internet and the instant fact sharing culture that we live in. So even though the films shared a star and young visionary directors, could they possibly be related in some way? Videoographer Tony Stark put together a rather interesting theory video over on his Vimeo page and for a fan of either (or both) films is a worthy watch. Is it a bit of a stretch and maybe slightly far fetched? Sure... but it is fun nonetheless. Enjoy the video after the jump....

Taxi Driver: A Video Essay by Zade Constantine

I am a big fan of the Internet, as anyone who follows this blog can tell. But one of my favorite things about the 'Net is the amount of content that you can find on a variety of topics. You no longer have to work for a publication or have had one of your books published to have people see your thoughts and opinions on things... no, you can just post it up on the 'Net for all to see. One of my favorite topics is movies, and I have been finding a bunch of video essays posted online about some of my favorite films. One of the best that I have come across has come from Zade Constantine, and deals with the seminal Scorsese classic Taxi Driver. If you are a fan of the film, Scorsese, or excellent film critiques than this is the best way you can spend 9 minutes of your day. Great content... check out the full video after the jump.

Bad Motherfucker by Biting Elbows

Music videos are a dying industry. They basically are still being made, but don't really have a home because channels like MTV spend more time showing Teen Mom rather than actual music videos. But viral videos are all the rage, so what if a music video is shot and posted on things like Vimeo/Youtube/Tumblr and promoted like a film short? That will get it out in the world, shared on Facebook, and viewed by people. That will also promote the original song, which was the whole purpose for making a music video in the first place... right? I don't know, but if the end result is the crazy GoPro shot video in the vein of Crank, then I am fine with it. Still Don't Think They Can Make A Wonder Woman Film or TV Show? Check This Out...

I am one of the people who don't really care if they ever make a Wonder Woman movie or TV show. The character has not always resonated with me, and I am not exactly sure why. The only DC character I truly hate is Superman, and that is because he has to much potential power and strength to overcome ANY THREAT HE IS PRESENTED WITH. That makes me hate the story before it starts. But even with my hating of Supes, I have enjoyed some of his story arcs. But I love all the rest of the DCU, and Wonder woman ends up being an afterthought for me when I am faced with the plethora of characters I love so much more. Batman is tops for me but Blue Beetle, Flash, Hawkman, Shazam, Martian Manhunter, Firestorm, and Red Tornado are just some of my personal faves. So every time I hear about a Wonder Woman movie or TV show I'm just like "meh". But I may have had a change of heart with two recent things I have been exposed to. 1) Gina Carano in Haywire proved to me that I can watch a woman in the lead role as an ass kicker and take them seriously. I love her in that flick. 2) Arrow on The CW Network. What a great show, and proof that all you need is writers who know and love the source material and a cast that can execute the comic book roles. So when I came across this insane fan made trailer from director Jesse V. Johnson featuring Nina Bergman as Wonder Woman kicking major Nazi ass... well, yup I think I can dig on this a bit.  Bergman is amazing as Diana, and I like the stripped down feel of the film. Valibation: A Short Horror Film About The Dangers of Technology....

Technology is abound in our current society, and truth be told most people couldn't remember what it was like in the days before Iphones & MP3s, of streaming video and the world wide web. So for his short film Valibation, writer & director Todd Strauss-Schulson decided to take a look at what would happen if we let that constant connection with technology ACTUALLY become a connection with our physical bodies. The result is a truly wonderful 20 minute short film that is extremely witty and even funny at times. But at its core it is a true horror story. I love the way Strauss-Schulson uses popular movies and songs (The Fly, Singing In The Rain, Dancing With Myself) to accentuate the story. A very cool short, and I can't think of a better way for you to spend 20 minutes today. After you watch this you will never look at your Iphone the same way again. 2012: The Cinescape by Matt Shapiro- The Coolest Movie Recap Video Ever!!!

Matt Shapiro is only 20 years old but has built up quite the tradition over the past few years by putting out his Cinescape recap videos every year around New Years. He makes a super cut of all the movies that get released in a calendar year and does a great job bunching like themed shots together to make  a very cool video. You can check his Youtube page here and his Vimeo page here to see all his past work, but this 2012 video is his best work so far. Unfortunately Connie Francis has made a complaint to Youtube for him using one of her songs and the video is currently down on Youtube (fuck you Connie Francis... it's not like Shapiro is trying to profit from your shitty old ass music), but the Vimeo embedded is still up and running so that is what I posted after the jump. Enjoy the recap and lets get ready for 2013!

'Memorize': A Short Film by Eric Ramberg

This is an absolute amazing short film from director Eric Ramberg that is in the vein of Minority Report, Blade Runner and The Running Man. Whenever you throw around sci mainstays like that, it better be good. And Memorize is just that.... very good! We follow someone who seems to be a cop for the SSU (Special Surveillance Unit) on a mission to track down some potential murder suspects. He uses the memory chip that each suspect has in the head to re-trace their memories and lead him closer and closer to the main bad guy he is trying to seek out. Along the way we get some excellent gun violence, some cool hologram technology, and a great overall narrative from a relatively short (7 min) film. It also leaves off on a sort of cliffhanger so Ramberg could revisit the subjects and see how it goes from here. A perfect short film, if you ask me . Check it out in full after the jump...

Stanley Kubrick - The One Point Perspective

The one point perspective is a film technique in which a director focuses on one point in the background of a shot, no matter how busy the action in the scene may be. It picks out a destination and focuses on that point, and the actors & actresses seem to play off of that spot. I am a huge fan of Stanley Kubrick, yet I must admit that I had never realized just how much he employs the one point perspective technique. This video by Kogonada shows just how often Kubrick has employed this technique over the years, and when you see these familiar scenes once again you will see them in a whole new light. 'SubWars' by Sean Soong

I love me a good fan film, especially an animated one. Sub Wars is just that. Sean Soong takes a packed Tokyo train and uses it for the setting of an old man Jedi who wants to teach some of these rude people some manners. The results are not very Jedi like... watch the full video after the jump. Gosh, this dude looks a lot like Obi Wan Kenobi, no?

Stanley Kubrick - A Filmography by Martin Woutisseth is not your typical compilation video... not by a longshot. This one has some awesome imagery to juxapose the films that Martin wanted to pay tribute to. I am so into this kind of thing, so it is refreshing to see someone take a different approach on the fan video. Here it is for your enjoyment. Hope you like it as much as I did.
