The Bloody Best Project Revisited

The Bloody Best Project is a horror themed photography project that has been going on for a few years now. The team of contributors consists of Ama (photography), Melissa (makeup), Autumn (wardrobe) and Roger (visual effects) and they have reached out to quite a few famous members of the horror film community to come up with some very interesting shots. I first covered the project back in September of 2010 when it was in its infant stages, and back then there were only 5 or so pieces in the collection. Now the collection numbers over 25 pieces and they have expanded their collaborations to include such horror luminaries as Barbara Crampton, Rileah Vanderbilt, Alex Pardee, Adam Green, Joe Lynch, Tom Holland, RA Mihailoff, and Kane Hodder. They have also reached out to some of their earlier contributors such as Danielle Harris & Ashlynn Yennie for some additional pieces to add to their earlier contributions. The results are all amazing and need to be spread around. CCD Interviews Jim Mickle & Nick Damici of Stake Land @ ReRun Theater

I had the pleasure of watching the wonderful post apocalyptic vampire movie Stake Land last month at a press screening and I loved it. When I heard they were having an advanced screening of the movie at my favorite bar/theater ReRun in Brooklyn, I had to make it happen for a second time. I took my boys Joe Fletch and Roc with me, and we were in for a treat. After meeting Aaron, the curator of ReRun, I found out that director Jim Mickle would be there after for a Q & A. This got me even more excited, because I loved his previous zombie movie Mulberry St and also was a fan of Stake Land the first time I saw it. This was gonna be a great night!

We reached ReRun and got into the back room around 6:15. Adam was behind the bar serving up some great food and drinks to the people who turned out for the showing. The gourmet eats and wonderful beer selection make watching a movie at ReRun a reall treat... you gotta get over there asap! Anyway, it was time for the flick and it was even better the second time around.

A great take on the tired vampire genre, Mickle really did direct a fabulous movie. His writing partner, Nick Damici, plays the character Mister... and lets justs say he was awesome. Rounding out this interesting cast is Gossip Girl's Connor Paolo, Horror scream queen & CCD's favorite horror hottie Danielle Harris, and former Top Gun bombshell Kelly McGillis. They really bring the movie alive, and I will honestly say that it is one of the better horror movies I have seen in awhile. But after the movie ended,  the real fun started.

Aaron opened the door and welcomed in BOTH director Jim Mickle and Nick Damici walked in!!! This Q & A was gonna get even better! There was a short session between the audience and Mickle/Damici in which everyone gushed over the movie. Once it was over, I walked up to Mickle & Damici and asked them if we could conduct our own on camera interview with the duo. They said sure (these guys were so cool!) and here is what came from it:

The movie opens today at the IFC Center in NYC, so make sure you try to go check it out and support a real good independent horror film. Shout out to Aaron for chosing awesome films to screen at ReRun, to Adam for keeping us hydrated and fed at the screening, to Emily Lu for being the best PR girl EVER, and Jim & Nick for making a great movie... and letting us interview them. All in all a another great night at ReRun. Get out and see this movie!!!!!!!!   

This 'Stake Land' Video Shows Us How Parents Treat Their Kids Once They Become Vampires

Check out this cool ass viral video from the 'Stake Land' film universe. For those of you who do not know what 'Stake Land' is, it's a new horror movie from Jim Mickle that stars Connor Paolo, Nick Damici, Danielle Harris, Kelly McGillis, Sean Nelson, and Michael Cervesis.... and it is super violent! See for yourself in this video entitled "The Uprising Has Begun"



I had the pleasure of screening it last month with my CCD brother-at-arms Tommy Lombardozzi (review coming soon!!!!), and I have to say that the movie significantly impressed me. This new take on the vampire outbreak/epidemic film is a stunning vision that most vampire movies only wish they could be. The twists and turns that Mickle incorporates into the traditional vampire mythos make for a fascinating movie. The above clip speaks to just how far the violence that the film contains. Make sure you check out the movie on Friday April 22nd wherever they show independent horror movies in your area. Trust me... you won't be disappointed!!!

Danielle Harris Makes Me Wish It Was Halloween All Year Round

One of our favorite actresses over here at CCD is Scream Queen, Danielle Harris. She reps from Howard Beach, Queens (my hometown), has been tearing up the horror movie scene for over 20 years, and is unbelievably freakin' hot. When I got a shot to meet her a few months back when she was promoting 'Hatchet 2' (which was awesome... make sure you check it!) I was happy to see just how nice she was. If you think she is smoking hot, you will be happy to know she is extremely humble and cool as shit. She even signed a bunch of posters for us to give away here (which we did) and over at my boy Johnny's horror blog Freddy In Space.

But the reason we are here on this post is to share the beautiful Ms. Harris and her recent photo shoot for IGN. This is, no doubt, in preparation for the recent DVD/Blu Ray release of 'Hatchet 2' and upcoming 'Stake land' (which was great as well) and also her upcoming thriller 'The Victim' directed by Michael Biehn. Whatever the reason, we are happy to have these shots of our favorite scary girl. Looking good DH... wanna grab a slice of 'New Park' next time your in NYC? Get at me... anytime!!!!

Reasons Running A Blog Are Cool - #4,215

Tomorrow I am attending not one, but two advanced screenings of upcoming films that I was looking forward to. Jealous yet???

First, at 10 am I will be seeing Stake Land, a very cool looking vampire movie which stars Gossip Girl's Connor Paolo and Scream Queen (and fellow former Howard Beach resident) Danielle Harris. This one sounds really dope:

America is a lost nation. When an epidemic of vampirism strikes, humans find themselves on the run from vicious, feral beasts. Cities are tombs and survivors cling together in rural pockets, fearful of nightfall. When his family is slaughtered, young Martin (Gossip Girl's Connor Paolo) is taken under the wing of a grizzled, wayward hunter (In the Cut's Nick Damici) whose new prey are the undead.

Simply known as Mister, the vampire stalker takes Martin on a journey through the locked-down towns of America's heartland, searching for a better place while taking down any bloodsuckers that cross their path. Along the way they recruit fellow travellers, including a nun (Kelly McGillis) who is caught in a crisis of faith when her followers turn into ravenous beasts. This ragtag family unit cautiously moves north, avoiding major thoroughfares that have been seized by The Brethren, a fundamentalist militia headed by Jebedia Loven (Tony award-winning actor Michael Cerveris) that interprets the plague as the Lord's work.

Then at 12 pm its off to see the really intriguing documentary Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles. This one sounds absolutely sick:

Beginning in the early 1980s, hundreds of tiles carrying this cryptic message were found embedded in the asphalt of city streets as far apart as New York, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Santiago, and Buenos Aires. Street art? A prank? A message from space?

Filmmaker Jon Foy recounts how young artist Justin Duerr became fascinated with the strange plaques and, with two other "Toynbee tile" enthusiasts, Steve Weinik and Colin Smith, spent years trying to discover what they meant and who made them. The unlikely investigators uncovered increasingly bizarre clues: a newspaper article, a David Mamet play, a Jupiter colonization organization, and a Toynbee message that "hijacked" local news broadcasts

That the origins of a street tile can be so captivating is testament to both Duerr's passion and Foy's film making. Artfully constructed, RESURRECT DEAD thrusts us into the black hole of this fantastic mystery but also reflects on Duerr himself, and the personal connection he develops in his attempt to find an answer.

We had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Ms. Danielle Harris last week, and she signed a poster for 1 lucky CCD fan to win. Now here is how you can do it. Hatchet 2 & Let Me In... Two Great Ways To Kick Of The Halloween Season At Your Local Movie Theater

I started my Halloween horror viewing season off on a great note this year, so I thought I would share it with you guys. There are two excellent horror films playing at theaters currently, and if you are a fan of these kinds of movies I can only say one thing: GET OUT AND SUPPORT THESE MOVIES!!! Its a fairly simple concept. They make a movie, they put it out, you pay money to support it... then they can make more movies with your money. Pretty easy, no? Ok, lets get to the movies.

Tara and I decided it was time for us to put our money where our mouths were and went to Time Square AMC 25 to catch Adam Green's next horror classic, Hatchet 2. The original Hatchet was one of the most well balanced horror movies of all time, mixing light hearted dialogue and funny situations with buckets of blood and guts. The main villain, Victor Crowley, is easy to like and becomes a member of the Horror Hall of Fame in terms of being a classic killer. He ranks right up there with the Big 3 (Freddy, Jason, & Mikey Myers)... and depending on how many sequels they churn out, may move past those guys. The new film picks up right where the last left of, with Marybeth (now Danielle Harris) narrowly escaping Crowley and retreating out of the swamp to look for help. She runs to local weirdo Reverend Zombie (Tony Todd)

who realizes that he needs to get rid of Crowley for good in order to open the swamp up to tourism and make the big bucks. So he puts together a riot squad of local hunters and trappers that are ready to rock and roll and kill Crowley for good... and $5000 bucks. Zombie figures that its money well spent, cause he knows a secret that might lead to Crowley, and the whole hunting party, going bye bye. The kills are great, Crowley is a beast, and the cast is superb. Todd and Harris both give excellent performances, and Harris shows that she can topline a movie with no problem. Adam Green is on the verge of becoming one of the premiere horror autuers in the industry... remember CCD said it first!!! In addition, this is the first UNRATED & UNCENSORED movie released in theaters in the past 25 years. If this does well, we will see more of these types of movies on the big screen... so go check it out!!!

Next up, we get Matt Reeves newest film, Let Me In. Sometimes it pays to have good friends. Reeves grew up next door to real life TV/Movie making superhero JJ Abrams, and helped him co develop the TV show Felicity, which started both of their careers. So no Reeves, no Felicity, no Lost & Star Trek... comprende? Since Abrams has been given catre blanche (deservingly so), he tapped Reeves to direct the monster movie Cloverfield... which was great. So he was the one they chose to remake the Swedish art house hit Let The Right One In. This isn't an exact remake (like changing the location from Sweden to New Mexico), but it keeps enough details of the original to be considered a faithful adapation. It's also not your  typical vampire movie... it drops the whole oversized teeth and tall, hypnotic demeanor of typical vampires and gives you Abby, a 12 year old girl who seems vunerable and confused. Abbey puts vampirism into a real life light. Her character asks the question: What if you were 12 and needed blood to survive? How would you gather it... where would you live... how would you cover your condition up amongst adults... these questions all give a real humanity to the story. Abby meets Owen, a fellow 12 year old dealing with bullies and his parents divorce. They become soul mates, and begin to develop what can possiblely become a life long (and alot longer) bond. The cast is wonderful, featuring Elias Koteas as a detective investing some bizarre murders and Richard Jenkins as Abby's adult protector. Owen is played by Kodi Smith-Mcphee and the best performance of the movie goes to Chloe Moretz as Abby. Wow, this kid has it. After destroying Kick Ass as Hit Girl, she is fantastic as the innocent/monsterous vampire teen. I highly recoomend this movie, as it is not your traditional horror film. It is a true drama in its story telling and is beautifully done. i could have done without the few minutes of CGI that reeves used (you will know it when you see it), but it so short lived it hardly makes a difference. Go see this movie. It is great. A start paying attention to Ms. Moretz. That kid is unreal!!!

SUPPORT UNRATED HORROR: GO SEE HATCHET 2 IN THEATERS!!!

I am a big fan of horror movies, and thanks to my work with CCD I have started to reap the benefits of being a part of the "press". I was recently approved for press credentials for the upcoming Big Apple Comic Con and New York Comic Con, and I was also invited to a press conference involving scream queen and CCD fave Danielle Harris. Danielle, of the original Halloween 4 & 5 and Rob Zombies Halloween 1 & 2. was recently at Planet Hollywood to donate a prop hatchet from the set of her new movie, Hatchet 2. This was CCD's first press conference (yeah son) and was really cool. Take a look at some of the video we shot (the lighting in the place was terrible, so the picture is a bit dark... but the audio is great!)

Very cool stuff. We had a chance to sit down and interview Danielle for about 30 min (coverage of that will come to CCD early next week). one of the topics was Hatchet 2 being release UNCUT AND UNCENSORED in AMC theaters across the country. This is the first time in over 25 years (almost since the beginning of ratings) that a film has been widely released in mainstream theaters sans a rating, completely uncensored. This is not NC-17 (which is bad, but still rated)... this is raw dog horror on the big screen son!!! Adam Green's maniac killer Victor Crowley is leading charge to a new way of cinema, and if Hatchet 2 is successful then I am sure it will lead to many more widely released uncut versions of films... which we here at CCD are fully supportive of.

So how can you help? Get out to an AMC and buy some tickets to see Hatchet 2!!! It opens today, and if it's anything like Adam Green's first classic movie, then you are in for a treat. Being that it's October, lets start getting in the Halloween mood now. I am attending the 10:35 show tonight at Time Square AMC, and Danielle Harris will be there in person to intro the film. Come join us... go out and support INDEPENDENT UNCENSORED HORROR tonight!!!
