Commercially Acclaimed Vol #25: Kate Upton Love Meat In Her Mouth
TV commercials are a part of our everyday lives as TV viewers. Even though Tivo and DVR have allowed us to "skip through" the commercials, the advertising companies are still trying to peak our interests by coming up with creative commercials. To me, great commercials are an art form and are under appreciated by a society that is always trying to speed through things. Think about it... how many times did you see a great commercial that made you laugh hysterically or want to go out and purchase the advertised product??? And how many times has the best part of the Super Bowl been the commercials during a blow out game??? Whether you want to admit it or not, commercials are cool as shit... and here are some of my favorites.

This weeks ad is for SoBe drinks and is called "The Staring Contest". In it a regular guy is pitted against the gorgeous swimsuit model Kate Upton in a staring contest poolside, and lets just say that Upton is not paying fair. You can see the video and a behind the scenes clip after the jump as well as some pics of the lovely Upton to brighten up your day. Good lord that girls boobs are spectacular. Enjoy the commercials.

This weeks spot features two amazing actors, Joe Pesci & Don Rickles craving candy bars that can satisfy their hunger. I love these Snicker commercials, especially the past ones that featured Betty White & Abe Vigoda and Aretha Franklin. Very good idea, and this one is no exception. "What do you model... gloves?" That's priceless. Check it out:

This week we got a new Heineken commercial entitled "The Entrance". If you watch it one time you will know exactly what the title means... The song is from the group called The Asteroid Galaxy Tour entitled "The Golden Age". If you see this commercial more then once on TV you will be humming it all day long!!!
Hope you like it... see you next time!

This week we got a vintage spot from Nike that pitted down low nightmare Charles Barkley 1 on 1 against the Tokyo Destroyer himself, Godzilla. This is from the classic era of Nike commercials (face it, they have some of the absolute BEST tv spots ever), and Barkley is great as the good guy who isn't afraid to get dirty. You gotta love the sports glasses that Godzilla pops on right before they start playing (in purple for Barkley's Phoenix Suns!!!). The effects were actually done by George Lucas's Industrial Light & Magic, which makes them automatically awesome.

***Bonus***
This was right around the time Nike began to embrace Barkley as the "anti-Jordan", the bad guy you could root for in contrast to Jordan's perfectly good guy. They even crossed over with Dark Horse comics to do a one shot featuring Barkley balling with the beast. How many atheletes can say that they starred in their own comic, and got to beat up on Godzilla? Here is the cover and some panel art. Enjoy!!!

This week we got Buddy Mignon, lounge singer extraordinaire extolling the virtues of Taco Bell's 'Quad Steak Burrito'. Lots of meat (4 times the steak!!!!) ...and soul, this reminds me of the scene from 'Anchorman' when Ron Burgundy plays the Jazz flute. A solid TV spot. Check it out:
Also, watch this unreal behind the scenes video of Buddy giving you some insight on his love for meat. This guy is great. I can't wait to see more commercials from this guy. "I bit into that steak burrito and I was in Vahalla... that's Thor's heaven!!!". Hysterical...

This week we got Robert Downey Jr. lending his voice to the legendary character of Mr. Peanut of Planters Peanuts fame. This commercial shows Mr. Peanuts annual Christmas party, and he reluctantly allows an unexpected and potentially deadly (for him anyway) visitor into the party. Hilarity ensues.... enjoy the clip!!!

Todays entry comes from Converse and rapper Kid Cudi. Cudi is joined by Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij and Bethany Cosentino of the group Best Coast chilling out together in a studio/ apartment. This is all fine and good, but its the big head paper meche masks that make it so cool. The song is called "All Summer" and I have included the 30 second commercial and the full length music video as well. These are three quality musicians coming together to collabo on something that sounds and looks great. I'm digging the song for sure. Epic win as far as I'm concerned.... enjoy the clips. Being someone who has been both a teacher and a coach, as soon as I saw this commercial I had to throw it up. It features New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck (Go G-men!) and Eagles wide reciever Desean Jackson, NBAers Amare "NY Knick" Stoudemire and Rajon "Boston Celtics" Rondo, and Sanya Richards, a Team USA sprinter getting some of the student body ready for sports in the upcoming school year. Thats one hell of a teaching program... damn son! Whose been eating hummus??? Also you can see the Air Max 2010, Nike Air Hyperdunk 2010, Nike Air Wavy, Nike Trainer 1.2, and the Nike LunarGlide appearing throughout the spot. Enjoy the commercial...

I am a big fan of Danny McBride, and have been since I saw The Foot Fist Way (hysteical!!!). That movie made me realize that I was looking at a future star of the comedic industry. He furthered my high opinion of him with his HBO show Eastbound and Down, the story of disgraced former MLB pitcher Kenny Powers returning to his childhood hometown to become a gym teacher. The show is hysterical and one of the highlights of the upcoming Fall 2010 TV seasons for me (the show starts back up in Sept). In order to push Kenny Powers back into the public, McBride has teamed up with footwear company K Swiss and some real athletes to endorse their new shoes, Tubes, which are specifically engineered for training. Powers taunts and belittles these professional atheletes with nonsensical comments that only anger them into training harder... but to no suprise, Kenny still makes them feel like failures. Check these commercials out, and big up to K Swiss for thinking outside the box for this Kenny Powers/ Real athelete mashups. Enjoy!

The music provides them with a fantasy escape... through the search engine. I know, its a bit of a stretch... but the guys lip syncing and dancing all goofy and shit is pretty hysterical.... here you go. Tell me what you think in the comment section below.
