The Popular Face of NY: An Art Exhibit by Raid 71 @ Bottleneck Galleries NYC

Bottleneck Galleries is at it again, and to be honest with you this may be the most fitting show they have done so far. You see, Bottleneck is located right here in my current hometown of Brooklyn, NYC... and, well lets face it, they are one of the only galleries here in NY that are focusing on pop cultured themed art shows. So when I saw that the subject of their most current show from artists Raid 71 (who was featured here on CCD a few months back... yeah buddy!) was 'The Popular Face of NY', I had to smile a bit. What better place to highlight a bunch of NYC themed art then right in the heart of Brooklyn? It is a perfect fit.... and I am loving what I have seen from the previews over at the Bottleneck Blog. They have some excellent step by step photos over their that show how these magnificent pieces come together, so get over there to check out some of the behind the scenes work on how these pieces of art come together. The show premieres tonight at 7:00 pm (I am definitely going tonight!!!) and runs for two weeks until March 29th, so if you live in the area make sure you get out there and support this local gallery in bringing pop culture art to NYC. You can click on the shop page starting March 16th at noon to buy some of the prints if you can't make it out there in person. Jessica Lange Is Gonna Get The Screams Going In 'American Horror Stories' for FX

When I was a kid I had the hugest crush on Jessica Lange. She is so F'n hot in King Kong, I totally had my first boners that I can recall to her. Anyway, she always had a special place in my heart (and my groin) as the years past.

Today, my boy Jeff Bond sent me word that she is starring in a new dramatic series opposite the lovely Connie Briton (Friday Night Lights) and Denis O'Hare (Russel on True Blood) for FX. Te series will feature a horror/sci-fi tone, but other then that there ain't much else to know about it right now.

FX has had some great shows (The Shield, Justified and Damages were great, and Rescue Me may be my favorite show of the last 10 years) in the past, and I recently became hooked on Sons of Anarchy (it's on Netflix Instant and is sooooo amazing)... with a track record like that and Lange's beautiful mug, I'll take a gander at this show on general principle. Check back in a couple of month's for more news on this one....

Mashups Galore Over At Draw2D2... Enter Your Own!!!

There is a new art blog on the block, and you need to check it out if you are a lover of mash-ups, a phenomenal artist, or both. It's called Draw2D2 and the concept is pretty simple: 2 geek properties, 2 weeks of submissions & voting. Thats about it. The first topic they chose to tackle was a mashup of The Iron Giant & King Kong. This one was my favorite:

Hollywood Is Dead... Just Ask Matt Busch

I came across the work of Matt Busch awhile ago when I saw a Star Wars novel at Barnes & Noble called "Death Troopers". I have never been such a avid reader of the extended universe Star Wars books, but this one looked really intriguing because it crossed zombies up with Star Wars... what the fuck else could you want in a 400 pg book? Just look at this cover:

So when I finally came across his website, Hollywood is Dead, a few days ago I was blown away by all the cool imagery he has created. He takes older Hollywood posters and "zombifies" them into undead masterpieces. These are not just some random photoshopped quickie jobs... you can see the artistic work that goes into each and every one. He even changes the actors names, the credits, and the titles of the films to reflect the seriousness of his mission to showcase an undead Hollywood.
