Hoth Gets Relocated To A Guy Named Barry's Living Room!!!

Barry must live alone, because if he had a wife or significant other she would never let him get away with this.  Barry is a huge Star Wars fan, and he has decided to use all 140 square feet of his living room to build a 3-D diorama of the Battle of Hoth from Empire Strikes Back. I am barely allowed to have my comic long boxes in the basement... so there is no way his lady would allow this to go down in her living room!!!! Either way this is an enormous undertaking, and is absolutely fantastic. My dude got snow speeders, At-Ats, Rebel and Imperial fighters, various other space ships and battle machinations, and much more. It even has Vader choking out a Rebel X-Wing pilot... could it be Luke himself? This is just so amazing, and a true testament to what it is to be a real deal Star Wars super fan. Soooo..... Mickey Was In On The Merger All Along!!!

This is just too cool not to post. I was cruising over at the Star Wars blog where I came across an article by Pablo Hidalgo that deals with a certain little Easter Egg from The Empire Strikes Back. Ya see, Mr. Lucas has always been a huge fan of Disney (kind of ironic, no?) and was even in attendance the day Disneyland opened when he was just 11 years old. So when he was set designing the scenes at the end of The Empire Strikes Back that take place in Cloud City he strategically placed Mickey Mouse head shaped objects on what was supposed to be computer screen walls. Why did he do it? Because he loved him some Mickey. But it is all the more bizarre because last year Lucas would sell LucasFilms to Disney and the Mouse House is now in charge of the direction of the franchise. Alternate Endings: An Art Show At Bottleneck Galleries

Bottleneck Galleries in Brooklyn, NY is quickly becoming the go to spot for pop culture themed art shows here on the east coast. They have had some cool exhibits recently, from The Gangs All Here to a zombie themed art show called Can't Beat Em, Join Em. But their newest show, Alternate Endings, may be one of the best yet. Bottleneck has gathered 60 pieces re-imagining some of the great movie endings of all time. What if Akira had ended with  Tetsuo winning out? What if Mickey was under Darth Vader's helmet? What if Gywenth Pawltrow's head wasn't in the box at the end of Se7en? These are some fantastic pieces that is sure to be a fantastic show. 'The Original Star Wars Trilogy Re-Imagined As Westerns by Timothy Anderson

Timothy Anderson is a poster artist that has had some great ideas in the past. He killed some of Science Fictions greatest films as pulp novels (I featured him on Director's Live a while back), and now he is making the rounds with some wonderful Star Wars original trilogy posters in the vein of Western films. These posters channel the spaghetti western film posters of the past and are absolutely stunning. He is also selling these puppies in a crazy huge 24 x 36 inch poster format for just 40 bucks a piece, and you can score all three for 100 bucks. That is a wonderful price for prints that size, and I think the three of them would make a nerd wall much more complete. I think it is great that Anderson chose to highlight some of the m,ore minor moments of the films to use as subject for the posters, such as the stand off between Han & Greedo for Star Wars. I also like that he went with the Italian language on the posters. Real classy stuff... Baby Boba Fett All Growed Up!!!

How great would it be if someone rangled Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, et. al and did just a photgraphy shoot as how they would look revisiting the characters they might have played in a hypothetical prequel film. (i.e. General Solo in his 40's-50's, Peter Mayhew as a few hundred year old, grey haired wookie!...etc.)

I couldn't agree more... so how bout it A-Squared? Get cracking on that ASAP, will ya!!!

Hollywood Is Dead... Just Ask Matt Busch

I came across the work of Matt Busch awhile ago when I saw a Star Wars novel at Barnes & Noble called "Death Troopers". I have never been such a avid reader of the extended universe Star Wars books, but this one looked really intriguing because it crossed zombies up with Star Wars... what the fuck else could you want in a 400 pg book? Just look at this cover:

So when I finally came across his website, Hollywood is Dead, a few days ago I was blown away by all the cool imagery he has created. He takes older Hollywood posters and "zombifies" them into undead masterpieces. These are not just some random photoshopped quickie jobs... you can see the artistic work that goes into each and every one. He even changes the actors names, the credits, and the titles of the films to reflect the seriousness of his mission to showcase an undead Hollywood. Irvin Kershner, R.I.P. - 1923 - 2010

A true legend amongst filmmakers passed away yesterday at the age of 87. Irvin Kershner, director of The Empire Strikes Back, succumbed to the lung cancer he had fought for 3 years. Kershner was handpicked by George Lucas to follow up Star Wars, and all he did was make one of the greatest movies of all time. Empire is not just the best Star Wars movie, it may be the best space opera/sci-fi movies ever... EVER!!! The Hoth scenes, Yoda, Han & Leia, Luke finding out that Darth Vader was really Daddy Vader... c'mon man, there is nothing that comes close. Here is what George Lucas had to say about his friend and collaborators death (as per E! news):

"The world has lost a great director and one of the most genuine people I've had the pleasure of knowing," Lucas said in a statement sent to E! News. "Irvin Kershner was a true gentleman in every sense of the word."

Billy D. Williams called Kershner "... a mountain of a man" upon hearing about his death. Film critic Roger Ebert further cemented the legacy of Empire when he gave this review back in 1997 during a re-release of the film:

"It is because of the emotions stirred in Empire that the entire series takes on a mythic quality that resonates back to the first [movie] and ahead to the third," critic Roger Ebert wrote in a four-star review, published upon the sequel's 1997 re release. "This is the heart."

Kershner also directed Never Say Never Again, which brought Sean Connery back to the role of James Bond, and Robocop 2, the sequel to the Paul Verhooven classic. All in all, he was a talented filmmaker and all Star Wars freaks should commend him, because one must face facts: If Kirshner would have fucked up Empire, the franchise would have been over. Thanks to him, its 30 years and still going strong. You will be missed sir. Thank you for my favorite Star Wars movie ever. Good luck on the journey you have ahead.

So I found a few more Star Wars Cereal Boxes to add to the ones from last weeks post that will be issued during Celebration V, a Star Wars themed convention taking place on Aug 12-15 in Orlando, Florida.
