Kurt Russel is basically the bad ass of all 80's bad asses. Sure Sly, Arnold, and Bruce Willis all had their defining moments during the decade... but in truth they can't hold a candle to Kurt in his holy trilogy of bad assdom: The Thing, Escape From NY, and Big Trouble in Little China! UK Artist Chris Weston decided to give little homage to these classic roles of Russell, and boy did they come out great. Alternate Endings: An Art Show At Bottleneck Galleries

Bottleneck Galleries in Brooklyn, NY is quickly becoming the go to spot for pop culture themed art shows here on the east coast. They have had some cool exhibits recently, from The Gangs All Here to a zombie themed art show called Can't Beat Em, Join Em. But their newest show, Alternate Endings, may be one of the best yet. Bottleneck has gathered 60 pieces re-imagining some of the great movie endings of all time. What if Akira had ended with  Tetsuo winning out? What if Mickey was under Darth Vader's helmet? What if Gywenth Pawltrow's head wasn't in the box at the end of Se7en? These are some fantastic pieces that is sure to be a fantastic show. Cool Down Your Drinks Super Hero Style With Marvel Ice Trays

Whenever I see products like this it reminds me of what my house would look like if I had infinite disposable income available to by nerd shit. My house would probably look a lot like Jon Lovitz's house in The Benchwarmers, when he grows up from nerd to millionaire and has an R2D2 butler and shit. Remember That Time That Tommy Lombardozzi Designed Character Cut Outs For The Fantastic Four Movie Premiere?

I have a friend that works as a producer at MTV. Back in the Spring of 2005, when I was pretty new at doing freelance illustration, he had asked me if I wanted to do drawings of the Fantastic Four that would adorn the set of their upcoming Fantastic Four movie premiere special. Of course I said yes!


The idea was that my drawings would be blown up, life-sized, and then made into big placards that would accompany the actors playing the specific parts. I was excited because I was going to be able to go to the filming of the show and meet "The Commish" himself, Michael Chiklis! (I was also a fan of his because he played Belushi in the not-very-good adaptation of Bob Woodward's Belushi biography, 'Wired'. I didn't like the movie, but I thought Chiklis did a great job.) Plus, I'd get to meet that sweet piece, Jessica Alba. MING!

'The Thing' Prequel Is Starting To Shape Up Nicely

Last October at the 2010 NYC Comic Con was the first time any official word on The Thing prequel being released came out. It was scheduled for a spring release, then was immediately pushed back to fall 2011. In my eyes I would rather the company take a little time and get it right, so the push back didn't bother me any. Plus, the movie had the lovely and extremely sexy Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona in Scott Pilgrim and a fave of mine) in the lead... so given how much I like her, I was always rooting for it to be a success. After seeing this weeks official poster release and the first trailer, I'd say things shaped up rather well. See for yourself:

Christmas Left Overs... Gotta Love These Posts!!!

Like all of the major holidays, we tend to overconsume just about everything... gifts, food, sexy women dressed in Christmas outfits (yeah, I ran 12 days worth of those on CCD. You don't like it, get your own fucking site!!!), so just like your fridge we have some left overs that we wanted to post but didn't find the time to. I love Christmas, so this is me holding on to the holidays for just one extra day. Enjoy!!!

More Marvel Two In One Make Believe Mashups: The Thing & Blue Devil

I am a HUGE fan of the DC character Blue Devil. Have been for years. I don't know what it is... the book was kinda laid back and funny, and was filled with tons of action. I also became a fan of the original run because it was out when I started collecting comics back in 1984-85 (God damn I am old). I have a good amount of the 31 issues of BD's original run, and over the years he has appeared in tons of Justice League storylines that feature stuntman Daniel Cassidy and his magically fused exo-supersuit kicking supernatural ass. My boy Ross over at Marvel Two-In-One: The Lost issues decided to pair up ole BD with Ben Grimm, and the cover that he crafted reflects the fun loving tone of BD's 80's run (check it out, I highly recommend it!). My 3 Favorite Scary Movies Of All Time: James West Edition

Ever since that scene in Scream where Ghostface asks Ms Barrymore that same question people have been asking each other it with regularity. Actually, I'm pretty sure they have been asking each other that since the beginning of film itself. Scary movies are just so easy to talk about... and so easy to form an opinion of. For many reasons they are the genre of movies that you can point to and say "Yup, these are the ones I LOVE!!!" In honor of CCD's 1st annual All Horror Week, we decided to highlight some of our contributors and friends 3 favorite scary/horror movies of all time. These may not be the best, but they are each person's FAVORITE, so these lists should be quite fun. Here we go!

 

So, what does resident comic geek and all around great guy Cousin James West have to say when it comes to the scary movie debate? This kid got some solid ass picks. Who says the youngsters don't know whats really quality... no torture porn or mindless horror here. On another note, you might have stolen my thunder with one of your picks... Damn, I hate going last! With no further ado, I give you James West's 3 favorite scary movies:

Evil Dead 2 (1987) – It’s over the top without being cringe worthy, it’s a send-up without being a parody, it doesn’t hold back for a second, it’s gory, it’s funny, it has action, and it made Bruce Campbell into Bruce Campbell. What’s there not to love? Pretty groovy (had to do it!).

 John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978) - The movie pits excellent characters against a legendary villain. Mike Myers is realistic while still having a supernatural air about him…this movie just has an atmosphere of what Halloween should be like.  (Editors note: I removed a video James posted here to make it its own post. It was to good to put n the middle of another post. Sorry kid... you just got jacked!!!)

John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982) - This movie just attacks you on all levels. It’s got some of the most realistic, disgusting effects in any movie ever. It creates an atmosphere of paranoia that’s almost unparalleled. On top of that, it makes you connect the dots afterwards and ask yourself questions about what really happened.

Honorable mention: An American Werewolf in London!

Over 1,000 Bucks For That Hat??? Get The F%@k Outta Here...

I am watching John Carpenter's classic 1982 alien movie The Thing on Cinemax right now, and boy does it hold up!!! What a wonderful film... Russell is such a bad ass, the effects were (and still are) great, and its scary as shit imagining being stranded up there. But one thing I had completely forgotten about was the ridiculous hat that Russell wears throughout the movie:

Honestly, that hat is just absurd... it is not even practical for life in the arctic cold. But despite all these facts, Russell wears this unbelievable hat for the whole film. So when i decided to make a post poking fun at the hat, I was floored that there was a company out there that makes a replica of the hat for your personal collection. the price tag: 4 easy payments of $275 bucks... over a grand!!!!
