Tuesday Triple Play From Sean Hartter

I love it when my boy Sean Hartter is productive, and boy has he been in the last few days. He has posted a ton of new pieces over at his website, but these three stand out as my faves. First up we get a neon version of Neil Blomkamp's District 9. Great colors on this one. Next up we get a classic mash-up of two great characters I would love to see clash, Conan & Godzilla. Imagine the war that would take place between teh great Gojira and Arnie? It would be epic! And finally we get a very cool faux VHS box art for Prometheus, which once again proves my point that Prometheus is a fucking Alien Prequel!!!! Damn you Jeff Bond... damn you to hell!!! Check out all of Sean's work by clicking here, and check out the three posters after the jump...

Mike D's Favorite 11 Movies of 2012: A CCD Rant

The year is over and I was one happy camper when it came to movies released in 2012. I am a huge movie fanatic and this was an amazing year for films to me. Big blockbusters, small indy movies... we got good stuff from across the board of genres and film types. We also must celebrate the year of the geek, lead by Mr. Joss Whedon. Comic book movies reached an all time high, Sci Fi made a huge comeback, and smaller companies like Magnet Releasing  helped make it easier for us to see lesser known works. Thanks to streaming services like Hulu Plus, Video on Demand, Amazon Prime and my beloved Netflix Instant films were easier to access as ever and were right at our fingertips on all the electronic devices we love so much. So here is my top 11 fims of 2012. Not the best films, not the definitive list... just my favorite 11 films that I HAVE SEEN THIS YEAR. And I know it's 11, that is what makes my list better then those stupid ass Top ten lists out there!!!! Enjoy my rant after the jump...

All Hail The Queen: Amazing Behind The Scene Photos From 'Aliens' Showing Stan Winston & His Team Making FX Magic...

Ever since the release of Prometheus a few months back we have seen an amazing renewal of interest in the Alien movie franchise. I would contend that this connection is made because people wanted to re-visit the older movies after watching the prequel movie (fuck you Jeff... Prometheus IS A FUCKING PREQUEL TO ALIEN!!!)... I know I certainly did, rewatching all four full length Alien movies after watching Prometheus in the theater. When interest in something is shown, a good property owner will put his merchandise into the market to be consumed by eager customers. Take the Stan Winston School of Character Arts and the plethora of unrerleased set phots they released of the master himself (Stan Winston) making movie magic by creating the Alien Queen for Aliens. It is one of the most terrifying creatures ever created, and when you see the massive 10 ft plus monster that Winston created... well, lets just say you will have some great insight into one of the greatest monsters ever to grace a screen. There is also a great in depth article about each pic on the Stan Winston School's page (click here). Check out the set of pics after the jump...

Pregnetheus by James Lee

Prometheus is a polarizing film... probably the most polarizing film of the summer. Some love what Ridley Scott created, others really hate it. Either way, there are some really cool scenes in the film that people of both opinions probably like. One of those scenes has to be the surgery/abortion scene, in which Elizabeth Shaw excises a certain alien baby squid from her stomach in a surgery machine. It is epically brilliant, but animator James Lee thought he could amp up the action in it a bit. So he created Pregnetheus. Yup, I just typed that title!!! Check out the cool animated short after the jump whether you liked the film or not....

Planet of the Vampires... Prometheus Style!!!

Planet of the Vampires is a little known Italian gem of a film from director Mario Bava. Even though it may not be very popular among regular people today, the film holds a special place in the hearts of many filmmakers that watched it when they were younger and adopted styling from the film. One of these directors was Ridley Scott, who frequently has cited Planet of the Vampires as a style touchstone for his films Alien & Prometheus. So of course it was only a matter of time before some enterprising videographer  would mash up the two and give us a cool faux trailer. Freakstorm 2 has done just that, mashing up footage from Planet of the Vampires with the audio from the Prometheus trailer... very cool stuff. Check out the full video after the jump.

Honest Movie Trailers: Avatar

With all the fallout that Prometheus is causing between people who like it and people who hate it, one thing is certain: Even if the movie may be illogical or not the bets at explaining shit, it is head and shoulders a better movie than the shitstorm known as Avatar. In order to prove this point, the gang over at Screen Rant & Honest Movie Trailers has finally broken down and decided to take on Avatar, and it is just as hilarious as I would imagined it to be. Pretty funny stuff, and once you watch this it will probably make you feel less bad about the Prometheus plotholes that have been driving you nuts.... Check out the video after the jump.

Ripley Times 3 by Ross Burt

Ellen Ripley is one of the strongest woman heroes in the history of cinema, and when Ridley Scott decided to make her the star of the show in his seminal 1979 classic Alien he set the mold for what a heroine should be in the future. James Cameron continued the characters bad-assness in Aliens, and then David Fincher shaved her head and put her in an even more precarious situation in his Aliens 3. Artist Ross Burt has decided to highlight the evolution of Ridley in three pieces that he designed for each of the movies, and in honor of the tough as nails chick that she was I decided to post them for you here. You can catch all three individually after the jump....

Paper Prometheus by Travis Betz

Prometheus is still causing the Internet to explode with controversy over whether it was a great film or a lackluster piece of shit filled with plot holes, but whether you liked it or not it is certainly on the top topics list for this week. Since it is so hot right now, there are a ton of cool Prometheus related tidbits floating around the Interwebs. One of the coolest ones that I have seen this week comes from Travis Betz, and it is a recreation of the Prometheus trailer... done completely in paper mache!!!! This is just wonderful, and considering that most people thought that the trailer for Prometheus was awesome (whether they liked the movie itself) I thought Travis did an excellent job recreating it. Fun stuff.... check out the full video after the jump.

Red Letter Media "Takes On" Prometheus (And By "Takes On", I Mean Roasts In their Very Creative Way!!!)

The gang over at Red Letter Media have made critiquing movies on the Internet an art form, and their reviews and criticisms of major properties are known far and wide. While their rants used to be INCREDIBLY detailed and long as shit, they have improved their ability to cut the critiques down in terms of total time while not sacrificing their intelligent barbs. They also have managed to improve on their level of humor as well This is definitely apparent in their new critique of Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus', a film that is causing many polarizing opinions. You gotta check their review out, it is priceless!!! The guys at Red Letter were also smart enough to release both the full length review (24 minutes) and abridged version of the review (4 minutes), both of which you can see after the jump.... I really like the things these guys say in the long version. If you have the time and want an honest critique of the movie, give this a watch.

Prometheus: The 50s Version by Josh Calvert (???)

Prometheus comes out this week and not a moment to soon, because I can't possibly dodge any more featurettes and trailers featuring clips from the movie. WTF Ridley... leave something to the imagination!!!! Anyway, I am beginning to get kinda hype and then I ran across this gem of a mystery poster. Damon Lindeloff, 'Lost' & 'Prometheus' writer extraordinaire, re-tweeted the poster. Apparently somebody named Josh Calvert sent it to him. But Josh Calvert's account only had that one tweet & has one of those goofy egg things as a avatar (usually a sign that the account is a fake one), so I am not sure it was him that really designed it. I saw the poster on a few other blogs, but with no formal credits. So if it was you Mr. Calvert, great job. This has a very 'Planet of the Vampire' feel to... and I love me some Bava! So enjoy the poster after the jump...

'Alien: The Easter Edition' Is A Must See For All Fans Of The Franchise

With Prometheus on the horizon, I am slowly preparing myself to re-enter the universe of Alien. Ridley Scott & James Cameron created a magical world that lead to a few more shitty sequels and some terrible Alien vs Predator turds. But instead of beating the dead horse to death on these other films, maybe the franchise should have took a turn for the comedic. Director Will Tribble and his gang try to add a little humor to the bleak space sets of Alien in their excellent fan film, and boy did they do a bang up job. If you need a quick laugh, watch this for a few seconds. You will be laughing so hard & out of breath that you will think a facehugger got ya when you weren't looking. Enjoy....
