How about some Luke Cage... as played by The Rock? Just because I would watch anything the Rock is in and he has the action chops to pull this off. A side movie maybe with Iron Fist - Heroes for Hire doing their street level thing as the Avengers go all Cosmic. The same war, just different battlefields. Sean Hartter's Halloween Movie Poster Roundup - Part II

So here is the second set of Hartter's wonderful Halloween Movie Poster Project. If you like the first set (see #1-15 here), than you are really gonna love these. Sean took a turn for the seriously weird and obscure with this second set, and he has also added a few fan favorite horror films (and some of mine as well!!!). Sean Hartter's Halloween Movie Poster Round Up - Part 1

My main man Sean Hartter is the real deal Holyfield when it comes to re-creating movie posters. The guy just has an unbelievable knack for being extremely creative in the way he re-imagines the marketing material for films. With the state of shit that the film poster industry is in now (if I see one more poster with floating heads or the hero in an action pose I am going to die!) it is refreshing to see someone like Hartter giving a new take on things. Seean decided to give himself a little challenge this month and create 31 unique pieces in honor of Halloween. He picked some classic films that most people know (like Halloween or Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and also some obscure gems (like Rawhead Rex & Haxan) that will have you searching out the films themselves to see for the first time. Today we will be looking at entries 1-15, tomorrow entries 16-31, and Wednesday (Halloween)   you guys get treated to a special piece made just for us here at CCD!!! Fake Criterions Go Halloween!!!!

Fake Criterions is a brilliant idea for a blog. Instead of honoring fantastic movies with a stellar DVD/Blu Ray release choc full of extras and cool art (which the real Criterion Collection does), these guys decide to honor fan favorites with fake covers that would never make the real cut. They then expand a cool idea into even greater depths by using the month of October to shine a light on horror movies. They call this month 'Faked From The Dead' and feature some great covers for classic horror movies that don't get enough mainstream love. There are the ones that people know like The Shining, but also many smaller, obscure titles like The Poughkeepsie Tapes (one really sick film). Reservoir Dogs by Ibraheem Youssef

I love alternate movie posters, probably because of the fact that the majority of movie posters put out officially these days suck. They do not take the time to create a witty, thought provoking image that is representative of an aspect of the film... nope, now most of the time we get a bunch of floating heads and slanted backgrounds (why is this so popular now?). Gone are the days of painted images, iconic posters, and important artistic contributions... but the Internet has brought those days back, albeit in a non official capacity. Ibraheem Youssef has some killer work on his website from a plethora of films, but the one that stood out to me had to be his Reservoir Dogs poster, so that is the one I chose to focus on featuring today. The Kessel Run by Old Red Jalopy

There is a science to creating a faux movie poster, especially one in which you plan on using popular characters. You have to put these well known characters into a mash-up situation that befits their own characteristics but is also going to make fans of the original smile at how witty you are. The gang over at Old Red Jalopy are some of the best at this... and they have struck gold once again. I saw 'The Kessel Run' poster over at SuperPunch and I immediately giggled to myself and thought what a great idea this was. Click after the jump for the full size picture and some more thoughts...

Prometheus: The 50s Version by Josh Calvert (???)

Prometheus comes out this week and not a moment to soon, because I can't possibly dodge any more featurettes and trailers featuring clips from the movie. WTF Ridley... leave something to the imagination!!!! Anyway, I am beginning to get kinda hype and then I ran across this gem of a mystery poster. Damon Lindeloff, 'Lost' & 'Prometheus' writer extraordinaire, re-tweeted the poster. Apparently somebody named Josh Calvert sent it to him. But Josh Calvert's account only had that one tweet & has one of those goofy egg things as a avatar (usually a sign that the account is a fake one), so I am not sure it was him that really designed it. I saw the poster on a few other blogs, but with no formal credits. So if it was you Mr. Calvert, great job. This has a very 'Planet of the Vampire' feel to... and I love me some Bava! Sean Hartter Creates A 'Sandman' Movie Poster Specifically For Neil Gaiman... Lucky!!!!

Neil Gaiman is my favorite comic book writer. Ever. Sandman is my favorite comic series. Ever. Sean Hartter has become my favorite artist I have discovered on the Internet. Ever!!! Hartter & I have become cool through our respective blogs, but I keep posting his stuff because it is simply awesome. This time he created a faux movie poster for a 'Sandman' movie at the behest of Neil Gaiman himself!!!! The poster is great, but the fact that Gaiman liked Hartter's work & wanted to see what he could do with Dream if he were the main character in a 60's era Hammer Horror Movie!!! Hartter of course killed it, down to the credits on the bottom of the page. Check the full poster out after the jump...

'Lair of the Rancor' Faux Movie Poster by Mark Daniels & Mark Steel

Creativity is a must when people are planning on using existing characters in fan art. One must really dig deep to make the characters their own. Not all artists can pull this off. This is especially true for Star Wars characters, due to the overwhelming amount of times we see them used. But Mark Daniels & Mark Steel found an exciting way to re-purpose two obscure characters from Return of the Jedi. 'Lair of the Rancor' gives Jabba's monster the top line spot in a throwback to the creature features of the 1950s. Gotta love the idea and execution of this one. Click after the jump to see more...

This Avengers Fan Made Poster Is Even Better Than The Official Studio Ones!!!

Fan made posters are nothing new. Artists are constantly putting their own spin on movie & TV properties in order to express their own creative minds on familiar topics. But once in a blue an artist comes through with such an amazing piece of work that it eclipses the original promotional material. Case in point: NinjaInk's take on The Avengers movie poster. Sean Hartter & Hero Complex Design Posters For What A Batman Film May Have Looked Like Under The Direction Of Someone Else...

Sean Hartter teamed up with the gang over at Hero Complex (specifically writer Geoff Boucher)  to come up with some faux film posters for Batman films done by different all star directors. Each one of these is better than the next, and some of them are just off the wall... but honestly, Sean takes alot of time to come up with all the little details of the film to sell the total poster's idea. I couldn't decide on just one that I liked, so I picked my favorite 7 out of the 15 that were designed. But here is the coolest part: If you click here, you can vote for the one that you like the best over at the Hero Complex website!!! Now This Is Who Should Play The Sandman In A Live Action Adaption Of the Neil Gaiman Classic Series...

And who you ask? None other than the BBC's Sherlock Holmes himself, Benedict Cumberbatch!!! Wow, I couldn't agree with this more. First off, I always imagined the character as an English type. I don't know why, but I always seemed to imagine Morpheus talking with a certain cockney accent. It seems my brother from the Great White North Cal felt the same way, as he is the one who posted this this awesome piece. Sean Hartter Posterized The CCD Family.... HOLY SHIT!!!!

Ask and you shall receive. It's that simple... or at least it is when you have super talented artists for friends!!! When my boy Sean Hartter made a custom movie poster for the gang over at Super Punch, I expressed how much i would really like to have him do on for us here at CCD. But before I could even send my request to Mr. Hartter, he had sent me an email saying that our very own Hartter original was in the works. Not only is my man SH talented, but he also works quick. Less than 24 hours later, CCD has it's very own faux grindhouse style VHS box art movie poster!!!! Click after the jump to see it for yourself...

These Faux Movie Posters by Peter Stults Remind Me Of Something...

... oh yeah, that's right... they are eeirily similar to what our friend Sean Hartter has made famous over on his blog! Damn Sean, two mentions in one day! Lol.... anyway, these faux movie posters are pretty boss, and I only decided to post them because Stults himself (click here for original article) gave my boy Hartter props on inspiring the idea:

"Awhile back a friend of mine forwarded me a site (http://hartter.blogspot.com/2009/11/misc.html) where artist Sean Hartter made posters of films that, title wise, we were familiar with, but there was a slight difference; they were remade as if they belonged to a different era or a different genre, the name of the movie was there, but the actors were different, the style was different, and I loved the concept. So I went forward with this theme; what if movies we were all familiar with were made in a different slice of time? Who would be in it? Who would direct it? So here we are..."

Sean Hartter Takes On Super Punch!!!

Running this blog has allowed me to post lots of great images and artistic creations, and at the same time allowed me to become friendly with some really cool people. One of those cool kids is artist Sean Hartter. I have posted many of Hartter's creations, mostly because they are absolutely fucking awesome. But it makes it a lot easier when the person who creates the art is super humble and comes correct every time. Need more proof of this? As a thank you to the awesome blog Super Punch for running his work continuously, Hartter created  one of his faux movie posters featuring the trademark Super Punch Chimera menacing a city in the style of Godzilla. That's pretty cool in my book. I just got one question for ya Sean: When do Jeff Bond & I get our CCD tribute piece??? We are waiting... hahahaha! Ferris Bueller's Day Off by Hunter Langston

You guys know that I love minimalistic posters and alternative movie posters, so this one hits home on two accounts for me. Add to this the fact that Ferris Bueller is one of my all time favorite movies ever and you get one poster that I MUST feature on CCD. Now This Is The Bond Movie I Want To See...

With Sam Mendes heading up the next chapter in the Bond franchise (entitled Skyfall) we here at CCD are eagerly awaiting the next Craig entry. It should be a lot better then 'Quantum of Solace', and hopefully they can re-capture some of the magic from 'Casino Royale'. But what if they wanted to take the franchise in a completely original and different direction?   Artist Ninja Ink decided to test this hypothesis by coming up with his own original idea for a Bond movie entitled "Only The Good Die Twice", and for this one he is not only featuring Daniel Craig but also the original James Bond himself... The Lost Wars Saga by Bam Pop

There are mash-ups, and then there are MASH-UPS.... epic mash-ups. The gang over at Bam Pop have created some of the latter with their versions of movie posters for a Star Wars universe populated by the characters from Lost. They even killed it with the titles of the proposed new films... its the little things that make it all come together. Hurley has got to be Jabba, right? Maybe they can re-cut the scene again so that Vader can scream out "Waaaaaalt!!!"Click after the jump to see all three of the posters for yourself...

Daniel Morpheus Shows Us What A Justice League Movie Might Look Like...

Lets face it... now is a great time to be  a comic geek/movie fan. Marvel finally got their shit together & has been killing the movie market over the last 5 years leading up to next summers compilation blockbuster "The Avengers". It is going to be epic. While DC has been able to make some great animated features and Batman is doing great, the rest of the companies forays into film have not gone so well. Will we ever get a team movie starring the Justice League? I doubt it. But artist Daniel Morpheus has given us a sneak peak on what this movie could possibly look like, using comic artist Frank Quietly's original team drawing as inspiration. Sean Hartter Is Back With More Faux Movie Posters To Blow Your Mind!!!

Sean Hartter is an excellent artist that has been featured here on CCD many times. He is also a cool guy who I have developed a cyber-friendship with over the past year. Some of my favorite pieces of his would have to be his Alternate Reality faux movie posters that he constructs using Photoshop. He mashes up some interesting actor/actress choices for the characters he is casting. In this post I am going to highlight some of his best Team Up posters.
