Pulp-O-Mizer: Creating All The Pulp Book Cover Memes You Can Handle...

Thanks to my boy Cal from the Cave of Cool, I was pleased to find a fantastic meme creating website that is focused on sci-fi themed pulp fiction covers. It is called the Pulp-O-Mizer, and it is fucking fantastic for geeks like me who have hundreds of old school paperback science fiction novels in my collection. You can personalize a variety of covers, with a variety of backgrounds, and they can be layered to create an awesome individualized pulp style image for your personal enjoyment. After your done creating your masterpiece, you can even add that image to things like T shirts, coffee mugs, and even an Ipad case... this is so fucking awesome!!! Pulp Fiction: Springfield

CCD contributor and professional killer of time on the Internet (hehehe) Tommy Lombardozzi forwarded these awesome Simpson-ized Pulp Fiction character sketches. After first seeing his link to a BuzzFeed article, I did a little bit of digging and found even more of the photo set available over at Coffee & Cookies. The se sketches apparently were first shared on a website called Film Roman a long long time ago. Although I can't find out who the artist is, I feel comfortable giving credit to the above three sources. So know feel free to enjoy these pics. Great job Tommy... keep sending em over!!! Tarantino XX- Yup, I Will Be The First Person Online For This One...

I have never met a bigger fan of Quentin Tarantino then myself. That is not just me waxing poetically... I really feel like their is nobody THAT I KNOW who likes all of his work as much as me. I remember seeing Reservoir Dogs back in 1994 on a borrowed VHS after Pulp Fiction blew up. A friend lent it to me... and he promptly never got it back. I watch the two of those movies more times between 1994-2000 than anything else. I loved the dialogue, the violence, and the overall craziness of a Tarantino movie... there is nothing better. Tarantino's 20 years in the film game run parallel with the success of Harvey Weinstein's Miramax films, so it's only fitting that Miramax is teaming with Lionsgate to give us the ultimate Tarantino box set, Tarantino XX. You get Blu Rays of Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill 1 & 2, Jackie Brown, Death Proof, Inglourious Basterds (all of the films he has directed) as well as True Romance, a film that Tarantino wrote. The box set is due out November 20th and has a retail price of 119.00 bucks, but it can be pre-ordered on Amazon.com for 83.99 right now (click here). The Wonderful Geometric Art of Ale Giorgini

The trouble with all the artists flooding the Internet with their work is that they all seem to be taking on the same source material. How many Star Wars, Ghostbusters, or Goonies posters have you seen? No matter how cool or original they are, they tend to get a bit repedetive. But artist extraordinaire Ale Giorgini has developed an interesting geometrical style that makes his artistic work pop in a way that forgives the familiar subject matter. According to Giorgini's website he will be having a gallery show at Bottleneck Gallery in NYC. I for one will be checking it out... how about you? Movie Posters by Bcapazo

Movie Posters today suck. The studios are not even putting any effort into promoting films with good posters that are commissioned solely to promote the film. There are a few poster companies that are doing their thing out there to correct this problem (Mondo!!!), but most of the cool posters that you see around the internet are made by independent artists acting on their own accord. One of the coolest batches I have seen in a bit come from the Tumblr of Bcapazo. He has some great classics mixed with some more contemporary hits, and boy does he have a ton. Pulp Fiction: The Official Infographic by Noah Smith

Pulp Fiction is a masterpiece of a film... a true originator in the art form of flashback/flashforward story telling. It was the second time Tarantino used that flashback/flashforward format (Reservoir Dogs jumps all over as well) that we often see imitated by many other directors. While the story itself is pretty simple to put together AFTER you watch it (especially as many times as I have seen it!), the true layering of the story is pretty intricate. Cue Noah Smith, a graphic designer and self confessed Tarantino enthusiast, who wanted to create the definitive infographic to properly organize a timeline of the events in the film. How It SHOULD Have Ended: Pulp Fiction

The gang of at How It Should Have Ended do a great job drawing animated sequences that show us how many of the films we all know and love SHOULD have ended. These 2-4 minute clips are usually quite humorous and filled with truths... often times truths we as film fans don't want to acknowledge. Why should we use common sense when it is so much easier to suspend belief and swallow the unbelievable endings we are often forced to endure? Even though HISHE has had many, many videos in the past, my favorite has to be their take on Pulp Fiction. HISHE sums up all the storylines in the film, in a realistic way that will make you smile! These Faux Movie Posters by Peter Stults Remind Me Of Something...

... oh yeah, that's right... they are eeirily similar to what our friend Sean Hartter has made famous over on his blog! Damn Sean, two mentions in one day! Lol.... anyway, these faux movie posters are pretty boss, and I only decided to post them because Stults himself (click here for original article) gave my boy Hartter props on inspiring the idea:

"Awhile back a friend of mine forwarded me a site (http://hartter.blogspot.com/2009/11/misc.html) where artist Sean Hartter made posters of films that, title wise, we were familiar with, but there was a slight difference; they were remade as if they belonged to a different era or a different genre, the name of the movie was there, but the actors were different, the style was different, and I loved the concept. So I went forward with this theme; what if movies we were all familiar with were made in a different slice of time? Who would be in it? Who would direct it? So here we are..."

Marcellus Wallace Vs A Zombie Tiger... Yup, I Just Typed That Headline

What the fuck is going on in the world? My man Ving Rhames is a very accomplished actor. Extremely accomplished. Like award winning and widely recognized from being in a ton of excellent movies accomplished. Yet he continues to work at a early 2000's Samuel Jackson type pace, making all types of films. Some good. Some great. And some where he fights Zombie Tigers with a sledgehammer. Yup. Zombie tigers. Sledgehammers. Marcellus Wallace. This happened in 2012: Zombie Apocalypse. You probably shouldn't watch the whole movie (I can't fucking wait to see this one!), but you can see the big bad Ving Rhames taking on the aforementioned Zombie Tiger after the jump....

You Had Me At Ball Gag...

Here is the trailer for Kevin Smith's highly anticipated horror/thriller Red State. Now let me just say this: If you want to get my attention, just add a ball gag to the trailer. Ever since Pulp Fiction, a ball gag instantly promotes terror in my heart. It's enough for me... how about you? I for one am really looking forward to this movie. Here is the trailer:

Gran Apertura Vol#5- Pulp Fiction

Gran Apertura means "Great Opening" in Italian. I felt it was an appropriate title for the new column I will be writing here at C-C-D. I love movies, but every once in a blue there is an opening segment in a movie that just sets the bar way to high for the rest of the flick. This opening scene is so good, it can't be topped by the rest of the movie itself. Or, sometimes the opening scene is part of an excellent film, and it does the job of getting you roped in. No matter what, the opening scene in a movie is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT scene in the whole film. So this column will highlight some of the greatest opening segments from the wide world of cinema. If you like what you see, maybe you will go ahead a check out the films in completion. Happy Viewings!!!

Pulp Fiction - 1994

One of my all time favorite movies, and the one that put one of my favorite directors, Quentin Tarantino, on the map. The opening scene is important, because in the non linear story line of the film, it all comes full circle back in the diner. I love this movie more then words can express. Enjoy this first scene, and if you never seen this movie... besides being ashamed of yourself, get to a video store!!!!
