The 2014 San Diego Comic Con is finally in the books, and not even 24 hours after it has finished the CCD crew has decided to reflect on all the nerd news and goings on that came over the epic four days of adventures. We hit on some of the big stuff (Batman v Superman, Avengers 2, Ant Man, etc), but tend to focus on some if the stuff you might have missed and need to know about (How is The Mike Tyson Mysteries not the MOST TALKED ABOUT THING TO COME OUT OF THIS WEEKEND???). It's A Bird.... It's A Plane... It's... SUPER FREDDY!!! Wait.... WHAT???

I certainly do love me some Freddy. Nightmare On Elm St is one of my favorite film franchises in history. And the character has grown to levels that no one, not even Wes Craven, could have ever imagined. He has appeared on countless products, especially in toy form. But companies are always looking for a way to bring a new Freddy product to market that is unique and can take the character to new heights. Leave it to NECA, one of the titans of the toy industry, to come up with a great idea for this years 2014 San Diego Comic Con exclusive. Not only did they come up with a great idea... it is one of the most obvious ones that hasn't been done before!

You Can Finally See Edgar Wright's 'Ant Man' Footage From SDCC... Kinda Sorta!!!!

I have been salivating to get a shot a seeing Edgar Wright's Ant Man test footage from San Diego Comic Con 2012 since the day after it aired and he 'Net nearly exploded talking about it. As a fan of the character in general, the Robert Kirkman 'Irredeemable Ant Man' comic series, and Edgar Wright as a film maker in general this is the perfect storm for me. But Marvel has been chincy with releasing the material (for once they should take a page out of DC Comics playbook from when they leaked that Blue Beatle test footage to much fan fare) and since Avengers just came & went on Blu Ray without it appearing (there was a rumor it would be a special feature on there) it seems like we might never actually see it. But artist Samurai Jack (someone we have featured here on CCD before) was in attendance at the panel back in August, so he decided to storyboard and animate what he saw on the big screen. This is the closest we are gonna get to the footage for now, and going from what I heard sounds ALOT like what was really shown. Way to show iniative Samurai!!! Check out the clip after the jump....

10 Awesomely Sexy Gender Swapping Cosplayers From SDCC 2012

Cosplay is reaching all new heights with every convention that comes and goes. More companies are making kick ass costumes, people are becoming better at creating costumes themselves, and the creativity level has gone far past the norms of just silly Superman's & Batman's. But one of the coolest things that is happening more and more is gender swapping costumes. I am noticing more and more gender swapped characters at these things, and to be honest its a trend I am digging in full. Think about it... there are mad male characters for girls to slut up, and I would much rather see a sexy Chewbacca or Thor than a chubby nerd in those roles (even though most of those nerds have cool costumes as well!). So I decided to peruse the galleries of Cosplayers that were posted over at Dorkly and highlight the top 10 gender swaps that appeared at this years comic con in San Diego. With Comic Con weekend coming and going I knew there would be some cool pics of my favorite Asian geek girl Olivia Munn joining the festivities. Turns out the guys over at Just Jared caught up with my little Asian pear at the Entertainment Weekly party where she was partying with the likes of Anna Kendricks, Emily Clarke, and others. Game of Thrones by Martin Ansin

While I don't plan on dwelling on too much that happened at SD Comic Con this past weekend (check out the sites who actually sent people... the ones I am jealous of!!!!) I have to bring certain things to the attention of the CCD readers. Mondo is cool as shit, and to prove this one step further they did three Game of Thrones related posters specifically for the show. While all three of them were really quite cool, Martin Ansin's poster has to be the best of the bunch. It features an excellent portrayal of the House Sigils of the Lannisters, the Baratheons, and the Starks all doing battle. I really love the symbolism in this piece... really cool stuff. Land of the Lost (Comic Con Exclusive) by Tom Whalen

Another day, another San Diego Comic Con exclusive announced. Tom Whalen is one of my favorite artists in the game right now, and he makes some great work. He will be appearing at the Huckleberry/Toddland booth (#3449) alongside Tim Doyle & David Perillo during the con. One of the pieces he will be selling is his excellent Land of the Lost piece, which will come in two versions (the regular Green version for $60 bucks and the variant Purple piece at $85 bucks). Stop by and check out these three artists works if you are in the building, because their stuff is absolute fire. I love that Whalen decided to take on one of my favorite childhood shows in Land of the Lost and use that for his Comic Con exclusive. Check out both prints after the jump...

'Unlimited Power': A Infomercial From A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Fan films are really interesting to watch... sometimes they are horrible, sometimes they put our favorite characters into some awkward spots, and sometimes they are simply fantastic. Every year Lucas Arts sponsors a contest and declares a winner at the San Diego Comic Con. This past year's (2011) winner was Eliot Sirota for his entry entitled 'Unlimited Power'. While Eliot won the award over 6 months ago, the full embedded version only recently appeared online. Sirota chose to skirt regular conventions and construct an infomercial about a Jawa droid trading shop.  I think it is great, and any fan of Wall-E will definitely love it. If you like Star Wars, this is a fun change of pace. It's only 1 minute long, so take a moment and enjoy it today. The full video is available after the jump...

This Guy Must Have Had The Best Comic Con Ever!!!

This guy wore this shirt to this years San Diego Comic Con, got into the Steven Spielberg panel, and got his wish. Peter Jackson snapped some pics of the shirt & the guy with Spielberg and all I can say is double wow. Not only did you get to meet your icon, but you got Peter Jackson adding shots of your awesome shirt to his Flickr account. Best Comic Con Ever!!! Thanks to Jeff Bond for the tip.

The Epic Meal Time Crew Introduces You The World's Mightiest Hero: Muscle Glasses!!!

This video from the Epic Meal Time Gang was filmed at the San Diego Comic Con and features their own superhero, Muscle Glasses, challenging a plethora of cosplaying superheroes to an arm wrestling match. Just Another Reason To Love Cosplay & Adrianne Curry

This past weekend was the annual shit show that is the San Diego Comic Con, which is a true nerd mecca. Even the celebs get in on the fun, because some of them are geeks at heart to. Case in Point: Adrianne Curry. The very sexy former reality star has long been known for her extreme cosplay costumes over the years. She loves to get all dressed up in some sexy character outfits and is frequently the highlight of any con she attends. Well, this year one of her costumes was so accurate it got her escorted off the floor because it was "Too Sexy"!!! Apparently, the powers that be of at SDCC were not happy with Curry's choice to go as Aeon Flux... aka the girl cartoon character that wears a leather bandana over her vagina. Holy god did Curry get this one right. She is so hot. After being asked to leave, she returned the next day as a sexy Imperial Officer. This lady is the best. That Was Quick...

Two days ago I told you guys that the powers that be over at DC Comics are trying to get a Blue Beetle live action TV show up and running to take the place of the decade old Smallville that will be ending after next season. Geoff Johns told us of a test shoot they did of the Jaime Reyes's transformation into the Blue Beetle... and he said that he would try to release the footage at the San Diego Comic Con that was coming up next month. I was excited... and apparently so was Johns. He released the video in screenshot format over at the DC Comics blog on Wednesday. Wow, talk about blowing your load right away. I was hoping that some of this footage would leak before SDCC, but one day later by the company itself ??? To me, this says that they are kind of excited about how it turned out. We see Reyes merge with the Beetle, begin to transform, take full on costume form, and then fly away. The pics are a bit blurry, but thats because this is a test screening and these are screenshots, so its no the best quality. But I liked looking at 'em, so I think you will too. Will The Blue Beetle Replace Smallville Next Season???

This upcoming season will be the 10th and final season for Smallville, and the CW is looking for a superhero type show to replace it. Enter teenager Jaime Reyes, The Blue Beetle... most of you probably know The blue Beetle from his guest starring roles in the recent hit Batman: The Brave and The Bold. These team up adventures show a young Reyes learning how to use/master his alien super suit that transforms him from regular teenager into mecha super hero. I like the character a lot, because he is a teenager who has to deal with regular teenage issues and then puts on the suit to fight some major baddies... this could be a great show. Lets hope that if they do pull this off, they will get it right. DC Comics executives have cut some test footage of Reyes turning into the Beetle, and that footage may premiere at San Diego Comic Con next month. We will keep you posted.
