Halloween Hangover - Massive Halloween Image Blizzard

Halloween has come and gone, and boy am I sad. It is by far my favorite time of year and definitely my favorite holiday. So as I sit here a few days removed and anticipating another year of waiting for Halloween 2014 to come around, I lean towards my Canadian brother Kal for images to put a smile on his face. Artin' It Up - 2013 All Horror Week Edition - Day # 5

All good things must come to an end... and as with most, it was fun while it lasted. Tommy Lombardozzi has been rocking the 2013 All Horror Week hard with his original drawings. We had The Bride of Frankenstein, Pennywise, Jason in the Burlap Sack, and the Silver Shamrock trio so far this week... and now for the piece de resistance:  Carrie!!!! Tommy really knocked this one out of the box, using color pencil, ink, marker, and spray paint on a brown paper bag. A great finish to a great week of original pieces. The 2013 Celebrity Halloween Costume Rundown...

So Halloween 2013 is in the books, and the celebs were out in full force wearing some fantastic costumes. Obviously the more money a person has the more they can afford to spend on a killer costume, and this was certainly the case this year. We had some sexy, we had some bizarre... and we had probably the best couple costume I have ever seen! Ben Cooper Costumes Revisited

Anyone reading this who was a kid up through the mid-1980s probably spent at least a few Halloweens trolling for candy in a costume manufactured by the Ben Cooper Company.

Founded in 1937, Ben Cooper, Inc. specialized in inexpensive Halloween costumes based on fictional archetypes, historical figures, and pop culture characters. Artin' It Up - 2013 All Horror Week Edition - Day #4

It's actually Halloween DAY!!! One of my favorite days of the year. And a perfect time to share Tommy Lombardozzi's fourth installment of Artin' It Up for All Horror Week. This time he check in with a cult classic, Halloween III; Season of the Witch. Tommy decided to honor the memory of the great, yet often maligned, horror film by creating an image featuring all three of the Silver Shamrock masks from the film. It's tagline was "The Night No One Comes Home!", and the film is epic to me despite the fact that Michael Myers does not appear in it. I loved the creepy ass plot, and the murderous masks and the plan to kill all the kids across the land. This piece was created color pencil, ink, marker and spray paint... and was created on a BROWN PAPER BAG! Very creative, and also a cool background color for such a creepy drawing. Odle Timey Halloween Was Much Creepier Than Current Time Halloween... MUCH CREEPIER INDEED!!!

Back in the day Halloween costume construction involved much more creativity than just dropping bye your local Party City and picking out which costume you will wear out of a package. Nope, the old times required people to use things like old & ripped clothes, and most masks were created out of paper mache (which would lead to some impressive masks by the way!) or odd shaped objects like buckets, etc. Before store bought costumes people were forced to be creative, and the results were often creeptastic to say the least. I was over at the Weird Tales website (one of the great magazines of all time... still kicking, albeit in a digital format, after all these years) and found an insane gallery of oldie time Halloween photos that are just spooky as hell... so take a trip down memory lane to see what creativity, hard work, and a little bit of imagination can turn out a hella good Halloween costume. Hi-C Horror from The Holidaze Blog

The gang over at the Holidaze Blog have been having a great time mocking up Hi-C juice boxes with a horror character theme for the Halloween season. They have had series 1 and series 2 in the past, and now we have series 3 to satisfy our horrific thirst! These are really cool, and I do enjoy the cleverness of the names of the particular juices and how they relate to the specific characters assigned to them. A great way to enjoy this wonderful Halloween with a nod back to the days of the brown bag lunch. Check them all out after the jump, the Wolfman Water is my fave by a long shot!

Lego Haunted Houses By Mike Doyle

Just in time for Halloween, artist Mike Doyle has created these beautifully detailed Victorian mansions out of nothing but Legos. He uses no outside materials when creating these houses, and one house can take up to 600 hours to make and uses 130,000 pieces to build.

Doyle says about his work that they "speak to the inherent unpredictability of those things which we call our foundation." He also mentions that "the piece offers no answers or necessarily any hope, but rather points to life’s fragility."

Artin' It Up - 2013 All Horror Week Edition - Day # 3

Today's entry in Tommy Lombadozzi's 2013 All Horror Week collection takes us camping... specifically to Camp Crystal Lake. Jason Voorhees hasn't always rocked the hockey mask that everyone is so accustomed to envisioning him. In the original Friday the 13th the killer was Mrs. Voorhees, and Jason only appeared briefly at the end when he dragged the final girl into the water... and he had no mask on to cover his mongoloid face. In Part II Jason is the killer... but he rocks a burlap sack rather than the hockey mask that he would obtain in Part III. Tommy decided to capture that look with his latest piece, and he used marker, pen, ink, paint marker and colored pencil to make this one come to life. I love this piece, particularly the fact that he went with the Burlap sacked Jason. Check it out after the jump... and you can see TWO MORE pieces on Thursday & Friday of All Horror Week.

Modern Deco Universal Monsters Poster Series by Tom Whalen For Dark Hall Mansion

Dark Hall Mansion is an interesting organization geared towards the preservation and celebration of poster art. The gallery collaborates with artists from all walks of the industry to work on projects that celebrate the poster art genre and turn out some of the best works this side of Mondo. Their most recent collaboration is a with one of our faves, Tom Whalen, and the subject of the collaboration is the classic Universal Monsters. His 6 posters are unbelievable, and they need to be shared immediately. Perfect fodder for CCD All Horror Week. Check them all out after the jump....

70s & 80s Halloween Costumes Revisited!

Costumes that are offered today are highly detailed orientated and very true to the original source characters. But this wasn't always the case. Most of the costumes of the 70s and 80s consisted of plastic face mask with a rubber band attached with staples that kept it on your head and a plastic slipcover that featured some distinguishing characteristics of whatever the costume was. And they were glorious... glorious in their simplicity. I acme across a gallery of these old costumes somewhere on the 'Net (I lost it now) but I just had to share these awesome throwbacks. When you look at the costumes of today, remember just how basic shit used to be. Although I would rock the fuck outta that Godzilla jump off... Of all the symbols of the Halloween season that I love, the Pumpkin has to be my favorite. Whether they are just un-carved and looking beautiful with their orange skin, or carved with spooky faces and lit up in Jack-O-Lantern form... nothing says Halloween more than them. Artin' It Up - 2013 All Horror Week Edition - Day #2

As All Horror Week rolls on, we check back in with our good buddy Tommy Lombardozzi and the awesome original art pieces he has done for the 2013 All Horror Week here on CCD. Today we get a creepy ass rendition of Pennywise the Clown from Stephen King's 'It'. Obviously this portrayal is influenced by the way the character was portrayed in the TV miniseries by Tim Curry. I have been discussing the merits of the now over 20 year old mini series with some friends and find that the view on 'It' can be polarizing. Some, like me, still feel the psychological effects that the movie had on me as a kid so long ago. Others dismiss the 20 year old series as dated and not very scary at all. One thing is certain: The book is freaky as fuck, and holds up as scary even after all these years! Tommy created his version of Pennywise in an 8 x 10 format with pen, marker and then finished with digital coloring. Another great piece in his 2013 All Horror Week Collection! Slaughterhouse Starlets By Keith P. Rein

While it is the time of year to celebrate all the creepy, bloody and horrific things the world has to offer... but that doesn't mean we can't add a bit of sexiness to the mix too, does it? Artist Keith P. Rein (his website says the P stands for Penis... lol) has created a series of illustrations called 'Slaughterhouse Starlets' to help bridge the gap. Some of the sexiest young starlets Hollywood has to offer today (Emma Stone, Aubrey Plaza and Zooey Deschanel just to name a few) with a bit of a dangerous edge to them. 'Trick r' Treat Pt. 2' Coming To A Theater Near You Soon??? YES PLEASE !!!!!!

Finally... there is justice in the world! Trick r' Treat is one of the greatest movies ever made that was not theatrically released. First time director Michael Dougherty really knocked this horror anthology out of the park, and boy did he get a hell of a cast together for the film. Brain Cox, Dyaln Baker, Anna Paquin, and Leslie Bibb are just a few of the names that litter the IMDB listing for this movie... and all of them delivered on the screen. We were also introduced to one of the most memorable ORIGINAL horror characters in a really long time in the burlap sack headed Sam, who is tiny and spooky as shit. But when the movie was made back in 2007, it sat on the shelf due to a various amount of asinine reasons. The film languished on Legendary Pictures back list for almost 2 years, doing only a handful of screenings at various special film festivals and events like San Diego Comic Con. But in 2009 the film finally gained some traction with the release of the film on Blu Ray and DVD, and it really took off after the start of streaming via Netflix in 2010 to become a cult classic. In the years that followed Trick R' Treat has received cult status due to things like the 24 hour marathon showing Fear Net offers to its viewers on Halloween and statues/toys from reputable collectible companies like Neca... and it is still expanding its audience with roadshow type screenings of the film. Now the news comes out that at one of those screenings in LA recently that we will be seeing a Trick R' Treat 2 sooner rather than later! Check out the news after the jump...

Frightening Home Goods by Horror Decor

Halloween makes the month of October an acceptable time to decorate your home with blood streaked and stained items and monsters A-OK. Nobody will ever look at you sideways for your Frankenstein pot holders or Creature From the Black Lagoon shower curtain... you will be revered for it. But what if you wanted to kick up your horror house decor to the next level? Well, say no more... just bounce over to the Horror Decor website! They offer a plethora of horror themed merch for the crib, from lampshades to pillows... anything you can ever want to bring the spooky level up in your house. My all time favorite product that they offer has to be their VHS pillow, and oversized pillow that is shaped like a old VHS tape. I can't believe how many products have suddenly become so Halloween friendly. I am not complaining. I wish everything had a special Halloween package like all the Christmas stuff I have to endure once Halloween is over. The Frankenstein Files

We can always count on our buddy Cal to bring us some awesome images no matter the topic... but when it comes to Halloween it seems his image stash is even more plentiful. This particular post focuses on the big lug of Halloween... Frankenstein's Monster. I always loved him, all the versions that we have seen. Whether it be the lumbering, unintelligent version who moaned through the Universal classics or the highly intelligent versions like Johnny Lee Miller payed on the English stage directed by Danny Boyle (thanks for that ticket Jeff Bond... still one of the greatest things I have ever seen!). The 4th Annual 'All Horror Week' Is Back On CCD!!!!! October 28th - November 1st

It's that time of year again folks.... ALL HORROR WEEK IS BACK ON CCD!!!! For this years installment, our 4th edition, we plan on bringing you a full week of posts consisting of only horror topics in honor of Halloween. As a huge fan of the horror genre, I enjoy this kind of stuff all year round... but I think we should take a full week to highlight just how awesome it can be and show some love! This year we got a really cool banner featuring the General Mills cereal monsters from Lockheed Lee, five new pieces of art from Tommy Lombardozzi, short films, collectibles, posters and art, and all types of other horror goodies to help you celebrate the season. Artin' It Up - 2013 All Horror Week Edition - Day #1

Tommy Lombardozzi is a great artist that I have worked with here at CCD since the very beginning. He is also a really great friend of mine. But watching him grow as an artist and expanding his artistic abilities to new mediums has to be one of the coolest things about collaborating with him in general. Tommy has always created awesome new pieces for All Horror Week (check here, here and here for some examples), and this year is no exception. He has created 5 new pieces, one for each day. The first piece tackles on of Universal's original horror icons. No... not Drac, or Frankenstein, or the Wolfman. No Creature or Mummy... nope. TL is taking on the baddest bitch of the classic Universal Horror movie universe: The Bride of Frankenstein!!! This piece is 10 x 8 and is done Marker, pen and pencil. Another great one, and not the usual subject matter that is usually highlighted when we see art inspired by the Universal classics.
