I have great memories of my childhood, especially all the toys that were available to kids for them to play with. The late 70s/early 80s were a golden age of toys & action figures. All you have to do is search Joe Esq's 'Takin' You Back' columns on CCD to hear all about them. But those memories are all present in people my age... so any callback to those days always puts a smile on my face. While I had many loves when it comes to toy lines of my youth, one stands out among all the rest: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe !!! It was a great cartoon, and even better toy line. The figures were very much like their cartoon counterparts, they had killer vehicles and weapons, and the line was super expansive... yup, they pretty much made a toy of every character. But the highlight of the line were the Castle Greyskull and Snake Mountain play sets. Those two castles were to cool for their own good. They were big play sets that can be used with multiple figures (which was impressive because He-Man figures were much bigger than any others on the market. While Snake Mountain, with its sinister looks and spooky voice mic, was a better play set (in my humble opinion)... Castle Greyskull was majestic, and it was such a well executed replica of the original from the cartoon. So when my buddy, Reddit master Joe Fletch, sent me over this epic He-Man Lego build of Castle Greyskull.... well, lets huts say it warmed the cockles of my heart. The best parts have to be the Lego mini figs that were created for this build. They are beautiful (Jeff Bond, what say you on these given you're area of expertise). You can see all the pics by clicking on this Owen Burnett's Imgur page, and you can see my faves after the jump...

Castle Greyskull Lego Build by Owen Burnett

The 'Albuquerque Action Squad' Mini Fig Set via Citizen Brick
Citizen Brick is every Lego lovers dream site... a place when they can buy custom brick sets and mini figs alike. They make the more... well, lets be generous and say "questionable" sets and mini figs that a wholesome company like Lego might be less inclined to make. You know... like tiles marked 'ammo' or mini figs like the Hail Satan Enthusiast. Wholesome stuff like that. But it is there newest addition to the already extensive catalog that got my attention; Meet 'The Albuquerque Action Squad' !!! Yup, CB is venturing into the world of Breaking Bad, with three figs that will satisfy any fan of the blue: 1) Legal Defense Enthusiast (Saul) 2) Drug Dealing Enthusiast (Jesse) and 3) Law Enforcement Enthusiast (Uncle Hank). I applaud them for not going right away with a Mr. White/Heisenberg figure... but I am eagerly awaiting a second wave that may feature a half burn Gustavo Fring figure! For now, these three will have to do. They will run you $55 bucks for the set, but once they sell out they will probably be worth much more than that. You can check out all Citizen Brick had to offer by clicking here, and check out some detailed pics of the mini fig set after the jump...

Lego's Abound - A Three-peat !!!
I have been getting so many Lego based stories into my inbox from my gang that I don't know what to do... so I decided to throw together a little 3 peat post. 3 different stories, all amazing in their own right. First up, we got an an Alien themed build. But this one is surprisingly simple and only requires a few pieces (only 20), which is rarely a featured property in Lego build posts. The second story comes from a more familiar place. How about a Hobbit/Lord of the Rings themed mega build that requires a bit of time... oh, and 200,000 pieces! And the final one is a crazy mosaic of one of my favorite characters in movie history... it kinda ties the room together, ya know? Check all three out after the jump..

The 50 States... Lego-ized! by Jeff Friesen
We have always been big supporters of Lego here at CCD... especially our good buddy Jeff Bond. So whenever I come across a cool build project or a photographer who documents extremely cool Lego scenes, i always post them. This is a pretty cool project courtesy of photographer Jeff Friesen and his blog The Brick Fantastic. He decided to create a scene for each of the 50 states and then photograph each of them... and they are all really cool! I love the various characteristics that he chooses to highlight with each state, and how each portrait is both serious and humorous all at once. Check out the full 50 on his website and check out my personal faves after the jump...

The Elizabeth Arkham Asylum For The Criminally Insane - Lego Style
There are custom Lego builds... and then there are CUSTOM LEGO BUILDS. Xenomurphy is a Lego builder who has just completed one of the second ones, a Lego build that is about as epic as it could be. He has spent the last year completing a huge Lego build of the Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane of Batman fame, complete with a courtyard and interiors that bring the building from the Batman mythos to life! Yup, a whole year... and not only did he dedicate himself to the epic build, he has provided the world with a free 80 page guidebook on how to replicate the build brick by brick!!!! That is right, you can build your own incredibly detailed Arkham Asylum, thanks to Xenomurphy's meticulous documentation. The pictures of this build don't do it justice, and the sheer fact that the build guidebook is 80 pages gives you a glimpse of just how much work went into it. You can see Xenomurphy's Flickr photostream with all the photos of the build by clicking here, and you can download the full 80 page build guide in PDF format by clicking here. Great work... check out a few images after the jump...

Lego Haunted Houses By Mike Doyle
Just in time for Halloween, artist Mike Doyle has created these beautifully detailed Victorian mansions out of nothing but Legos. He uses no outside materials when creating these houses, and one house can take up to 600 hours to make and uses 130,000 pieces to build.
Doyle says about his work that they "speak to the inherent unpredictability of those things which we call our foundation." He also mentions that "the piece offers no answers or necessarily any hope, but rather points to life’s fragility."

Lego Hogwarts
God knows how much we love the Legos around here on CCD... ain't that right Jeffery Bond? And as a huge Harry Potter fan, I have to admit that I geeked out a bit when I came across this video on the internet. I am becoming a big fan of these big scale Lego builds, and I especially love the time lapse perspective that is used to illustrate just how long these massively intense major builds could take. Enjoy the magical land of Hogwarts created by Alice Finch for the 2013 Emerald City Comic Con after the jump...
