From The CCD Archives...Planet of the Apes Merch!!!!

I bet you thought we were all Aped out, well...not quite yet. I've been having some withdrawal pains since departing the simian world. We covered just about everything in our massive Podcast of the Apes and finally got to witness the 'Dawn.' BUT....I needed just a little bit more. So I have decided to dig through my personal archives and see what I could unearth.

Much thanks to my father, JediRob Sr.(hmmm, maybe more 00Rob), who deserves the credit for this treasure trove of geek artifacts. He was collecting and preserving geek memorabilia long before such a term was even commonly used, and certainly way before it was "cool." Taking his inspiration from Uncle Forry and Famous Monsters, he is an original fanboy and my inspiration.

So let's see what we got! These are all physical items in my possession...

Cartoon Styled Movie Posters by Ive Bastrash

One of my favorite cartoons back in the day was the Beetlejuice cartoon. I loved it because it expanded the universe of the movie and gave us a cool look at some of the awesome characters that were put forth in the movie in a new cartoon style. Artist Ive Bastarsh has taken a cue from the idea of cartoonizing (I know that is not a word... so what?) some of your favorite movies & their characters and came up with a killer series of posters to take a look at what these films would look like if they were cartoons. Well done... well done indeed. You can take a look at more of his work by clicking here to get onto his Deviant Art page & you can see the ones that I like the best after the jump...

Happy B-Day Jeff Bond!!!

The CCD fam has grown and shrank over the two years we have been in existence. Some contributors started off hot & heavy and have faded into the background, and some contributors only drop a post off every once and again. But there is one constant here at CCD besides me, and that is my boy Jeffrey Bond. This guy started as the 1st additional contributor to CCD with his Lost recap blogs, and after getting involved he wanted to help out more & more. He has been by my side for celebrations, milestones, and is always around during NY Comic Con when we are using those always handy press passes. Jeff helps keep the site in order, helps with the daily upkeep & maintenance, he scouts out & sends me a lot of the material that turns into posts, and even throws up a couple of posts himself now and again (more often again lately... lets go kid, get in it!!!). So on this day I wish my main man Jeff a Happy Birthday and look forward to many more years of friendship & partnership here at CCD. Darn Dirty Grape Ape by Captain Ribman

I love all my peoples, especially the people associated with CCD. I am always scouring the Net for things to post here on CCD, but whenever I see cool shit on the Internet that others really love I usually grab them to post as well. This happened last night when I was perusing the eclectic blog Electronic Cerebrectomy. In one of his fan art roundups he posted an excellent mash up of Grape Ape & Planet of the Apes by Captain Ribman. Excellent execution and very well thought out, a perfect example on how you should go about performing a mash up of two properties. I also like that Grape Ape is a bit more obscure in comparison to Planet of the Apes. I know my main man Jeff Bond will love this one!!!! Catch the full picture after the jump...

Today, Alamo Drafthouse Goes Ape...

Alamo Drafthouse & Mondo always bring it when they collaborate with artists to construct a new poster project.Whether the subject is old school (like the killer Gremlins posters) or new school (their Once Upon A TIme series), the artists always hit a home run for the best team in the game. Last night I got an email featuring the newest series to come out of the Texas based powerhouse, and the subject is a classic: Planet of the Apes!!!! Check out FIVE different posters that are part of the set. All  five will be available as a set tomorrow (Thursday 1/26) and individually on Friday (1/27)... but the time is not released as of yet. You gotta follow Mondo on Twitter (click here) for the exact release info. If you buy all 5, you get the "Go Ape" poster from Jason Edmiston for free! Click after the jump to see what the series has in store for you...

'I'd Buy That...As a Tee!' Vol 18 by Jeff Bond

Always on the look out for inspiring art... emblazoned across the chest of humanity. Here's some of the t-shirts I have my eye on to do just the trick but, there's only one problem....they aren't for sale yet! Please click the links below to the Threadless.com (my favoritest and most user friendly t-shirt contribution site) voting pages for each and give these beauties '5' ratings so I can throw 'em on my charge card one day.

First up this week, we have a handful of Super Mario Bros. designs that'll make your flower fiery....
'Mushroom Guillotine' shows what happens to Toad if Super Mario doesn't make it to, yet, another castle to save him in time. I love this design!

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes Looks Pretty Bad Ass

I went to a triple header of movies last night (Pirates 4, The Hangover 2 and X-Men: First Class) and somehow I missed only 1 trailer (thanks to Joe Fletch's trusty time chart!!!). Unfortunately, the 1 trailer I missed was the only one I haven't seen before... a brand new Rise of the Planet of the Apes trailer! I am very excited about this movie, as I feel like this can be a great take on the franchise and modernize the effects of the classic films. Caesar and the rest of the simians look awesome. See for yourself:

In the same vein of this, my good friend and artist Tommy Lombadozzi created a very cool "Caesar" picture that he has for sale on his website. You can click here to buy his wonderful art.

LEGO Iconic Vol #8 by Jeff Bond

I am such a huge Lego nerd that words can not explain. Soooo I've decided to use my favorite blog site CCD.com as an outlet to get some of this stuff that I see every day, built out of bricks, out of my skull and onto the blogosphere where it can't hurt my cerebral cortex. Each month I'll be posting the best of the best hoping to inspire the Lego maniac in each of you...young and old.  Enjoy!

I am 'Brick Junk' this week on all the Lego inspired art that has been forwarded to me and that I've found, myself, from hours of surfing the bricker-net. Kudos to my agents of Lego Iconery for all your help!

First up, my boy Ochre Jelly over at Flickr created his first homage installment to my second favorite Sci-Fi film franchises of all time. Those 'damn dirty apes' of the 'Planet of the Apes' franchise. Brick shall not kill brick! Dig the 2nd 60's retro poster inspired collage framing the monkey participants in all their Technicolor glory.

Spotted first on Topless Robot by my partner in crime, Mr. Mike D, forwarded me this Lego on Metal 'Viking Odyssey' short film created by the geniuses of CollegeHumor.com. Makes me wanna make cool things  out of Lego and bash them at the walls!
