The CCD Podcast: Episode #90 - Deadpool - 25 Years of The Merc With A Mouth

Some people like to shit on Rob Liefeld... they make fun of his comics, say he can't draw, say he can't write... but he is still in the game, And one of the reasons that is has to be a little character he brought to life 25 years ago by the name of Deadpool. Sure... he is a rip off of Deathstroke from DC Comics. So? Sure.... he has a lot of powers in common with Wolverine. So? Sure he looks like Spider-man with a couple of katanas. So? Deadpool is amazingly the single most popular character in Marvel's current stable, and now he is FINALLY getting brought to life on the big screen by Ryan Reynolds! But in true CCD fashion we have decided not only to chat up the film (it was AWESOME!) but talk about the history of this improbable star from his first appearance in New Mutants #98 to his massive box office success...

Could This Have Been/ Be The Deadpool - Ryan Reynolds Movie We Missed Out On?

Man oh man, If it is than we have gotten the hose. If Ryan Reynolds is anything, it is dedicated. Even after being turned into the biggest joke of a character in Wolverine: Origins anyone in the history of comic book movies has had to endure, he is willing to don the Deadpool mask in a full on feature. Why? I have no idea... after the way the character was treated I wouldn't trust them. But anytime he is asked about the possibility of the movie he mentions he would love to do it. I find this weird, but I always thought he was perfect for the Merc With A Mouth. Now immediately following Comic Con we get some conveniently "leaked" test footage of what could have been capable with Reynolds under the red hood... and you know, with a mouth to wise crack away would be cool too. All in all, great stuff. Even Rob Liefeld himself co-signed the authenticity of the video. In his Tweet rampage yesterday Liefeld said that Reynolds shot the whole scene mo-cap and then had the suit layered over it in post. So it is actually real. Check it out after the jump.... we can all dream, right?

"You Missed" - A Deadpool Potrait Made Of Ammunition by Mike Oncley

Artist Mike Oncley wanted to create a fun piece of art dedicated to his favorite character, the Merc with a Mouth named Deadpool. So he looked into the character and tried to find something that would represent ole DP in the most positive light. What he came up with is "You Missed", a portrait of Deadpool constructed completely out of real ammunition. Is there truly anything more fitting? This piece is perfect. Absolutely perfect. Not only do we have some great shots of the piece, but also a video of how it was constructed. All in all, a pretty great piece of art. Well done Mike! Check out the full piece after the jump..

Deadpool Gets His Robin Thicke On: Hey Hey Hey....

Robin Thicke has the song of the century on his hands (if not the century, definitely this summers) with Blurred Lines, and boy does it have some video to go along with it. Nudie chicks, dancing around topless.... craziness all around. So you had to figure that the comic geeks that make web videos would eventually take a crack at parodying it... and who better to play the starring role that The Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool! He brings along Logan, Bob, and a plethora of hot X-Team women as well... and the lyrics are actually quite clever. Check out the video after the jump and enjoy the craziness that only Big Red can provide!!!

The Trailer For Deadpool: The Game' Kicks Ass & Takes Names....

I had heard some rumblings about a proposed Deadpool game that was due to come out at some point this year and I immediately got excited. My reasons were two fold. On one hand, games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance & the Batman Arkham games showed just how fantastic comic book games could be. When it comes to Ultimate alliance, Wade Wilson was also one of the characters we loved to play with the most. The second reason has to do with the character itself. Is there anyone more suited for a batshit crazy action game beside Wade Wilson? He is perfectly set up as the crazy ass, action loving protagonist in a hectic shoot 'em up adventure, and the breaking of the third wall is just fantastic. This trailer gives us just a sneak peak at what we can expect from the Merc with a Mouth, and I for one certainly can't wait. The game comes out sometime this summer (no official release date yet), so stay tuned for more info. But if this 2 minute clip is just  a scratch on the surface of what we should expect, well I for one will be right there waiting for it to blow my mind. Trailer after the jump...

Lego Marvel Super Heroes... Yeah Buddy!!!

I have had the pleasure of playing many of the Lego games that have come out over the last few years (Lego Batman, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc) since my son absolutely loves them. He has been on the bandwagon for years, and I gladly purchase their newest releases year after year (I bought him Lego DC Heroes for Christmas). But when I saw some of the footage from their next game, Marvel Super Heroes, I have reached the pinnacle of love I can have for the company. The Avengers, Wolverine, Deadpool, and many other characters seem to be in the game. I really like that they have chosen to use the movie versions of the Avengers (that is Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye right there son...) over some of the comic versions. The early footage looks great, and you can see it after the jump. I know I will be on line with my little buddy Mikey to purchase it as soon as possible. The game is due sometime in Fall of 2013, so keep your eyes peeled for the next great game from a great company...

Deadpool vs Ambush Bug by Ross

Ross is doing God's work over at his Blogspot account by creating faux comic book team up covers with MS Paint that would make any fanboy squee with joy. He started out doing Brave and The Bold covers featuring Batman and someone else, then he transitioned to Marvel Team-Ups with The Thing and someone else. Now he is doing Super Team Family team ups, which in effect don't tie him to a main character like the previous endeavors he undertook. Now he has freedom to choose BOTH characters in his fictional mash-ups, and boy is this leading to some good ones. The Watcher & Star Wars? Ant Man & Animal Man? Wonder Woman & She Hulk? The Lizard & Killer Croc? Rorshach & The Avengers? Yup all of these sound and are great... and exist on Ross's awesome site. but the one that stood out to me the best had to be Ambush Bug vs Deadpool cover that he did recently. Why? I am not really sure... probably because it would be a very funny comic to read. Deadpool is a lunatic, and Ambush Bug has always been a secret fave of mine. Plus they both break the 4th wall, so wouldn't be cool to see them both talking to & about the readers AT THE SAME TIME!!! That would be so epic. Click after the jump to see the cover in all its glory...

Check Out The New Marvel x Funko Figures

I am a huge fan of these Funko Pop Figures. I usually pass on these vinyl figures but these are of such gorgeous design and they display so well. The range of characters grows monthy and in early 2013 you can add these to your shelves. My favorite is, of course, DOOM! At $10 a pop these are an easy collecting choice to make. Check out the individual figures in detail figures after the jump...

How Did I Ever Not Know About Gangnam Style?

I love when a blog about one thing give you content on something completely different and it is gold. I read It's A Dan World because it is one of the best comic book blogs out there. Dan keeps me abreast of all that is going on in the comic book world and does it in a fantastically original way. But when I saw his post about a Korean dance sensation known as Gangnam Style. How the fuck did I not know about this shit? While the original video by artist PSY is fucking fantastic (you can see it after the jump), you have to love the version that Dan posted featuring Deadpoool & Bane. This is fucking amazing, but you must watch the first original video to get the full impact of the Deadpool one. Check em both out after the jump...

'Deadpool: A Typical Tuesday' - A Fan Film by Bean Dip Productions

Deadpool is probably the most popular character in the Marvel Universe right now, eclipsing the usual fan faves like Wolverine & Captain America over the past few years. Who would have ever thought that Rob Liefield would have ever been able to contribute something so great to the world of comics? The Merc With A Mouth is a definite property that needs to see a big screen film, as proof by the excellent cameo by Ryan Reynolds in the Wolverine: Origins movie (the parts before they took away Ryan Reynolds mouth!!!!). So enter Bean Dip Productions, who decided to craft a fan film entitled 'Deadpool: A Typical Tuesday' that shows just how awesome the character could be if he had his own feature. This one is spectacular, especially if you love some sarcasm on the side with your superhero adventures! Enjoy the full video after the jump...

Reebok & Marvel Team Up For Some Killer Super Shoes This Summer!!!

Reebok has taken a back seat to competitor Nike over the past 10 years when it comes to ruling the sneaker world, but sometime you have to look backward & be creative to move to the forefront. Reebok is doing just that, going into 'Classic' mode and re-releasing a ton of greatest hits including Allen Iverson & Shaq's first sneakers. But their killer upcoming collabo with Marvel Comics is sure to become a popular part of the companys resurgence this summer. There are 10 models, all of them coming on classic Reebok models. Some of the creme de la creme of Marvel are getting their own shoes in the collection, and they are very detail orientated. Cap, Spidey, Wolverine, Deadpool, Black Widow, Emma Frost, Gambit, Sabretooth, Venom & Red Skull are all getting editions, and they are so bad ass. I think the Red Skull & deadpool ones are the best, but I am partial to Pumps. Tell us which ones you like the best in the comment section & check out pics of each pair after the jump...

The Cover For Deadpool #54 Takes A Turn Towards Ryan Reynolds...

I have always loved the playful style of the Deadpool character and how the guys who are writing his book play that up. But rarely have I ever been as amused by a book that I am not currently reading by something as simple as a cover shot. In this month's issue (#54) features The Merc With A Mouth buried in a coffin under ground alive, a la Ryan Reynolds in Buried. So fucking cool, considering Reynolds has played the character in the past & will probably portray him someday on the big screen. Click after the jump to see the full cover...

Deadpool Puts An End To The Star Wars Prequel Debate As Only He Can

Check out this hysterical comic strip featuring everybodies favorite "Merc with a Mouth", Deadpool getting to the bottom of the whole Star Wars Prequel debate. Deadpool: 2 Legit 2 Quit...

This cover makes me want read this 'Deadpool' book, despite the fact that he is in like 41 titles a month. C'mon, the dude is wearing MC Hammer pants, Gazelle glasses, and a jewel encrusted Thor-style hammer with Oaktown 3-5-7 back-up dancers. That's pretty bad ass, no?

Plus the new title is being written by Chris Hastings, the creator of 'Dr. McNinja' (if you have never read this web comic, click here to read it now!!! It is incredible and totally free online.) Trust me, this guy is perfect for the Merc with a Mouth.

Wizard World Philly 2010 Revisited

Story by Edson Melendez

Photos by Matt Melendez, Cynthia Leguillow and Zulleyka Ortega

Hey everyone. You don't know me yet, I've been a lurker reading C.C.D. for the past few months. I have to say that it's been fun watching a ragtag group of talented individuals mature into a...erh...ragtag group of talented indivduals? Think 'The Goonies' but more street. Nevertheless my name is Edson and hopefully you'll enjoy this brief ride with me into Geekdom.

"Comic-Con"... just the word sends shivers down my geeky spine. For the last three years I had been seeking out these gatherings of my ilk, attending 'New York Comic-Con' in 2008 and 'Wizard World Big Apple Comic-Con' in 2009. I wasn't planning on attending another convention until later this year, but when my cousin and fellow geek Matt presented the idea of heading into Philly to attend Wizard World we rallied the troops and headed south. If you've never been to a comic convention they can be quite a bit imposing. Just take a few steps in and draw a deep breath, the anxiety will pass soon.

BLADE, DEAD POOL AND umm BLADE!
