Meet Your New Lone Ranger... It's Armie Hammer!!!

I have to admit I am a bit excited about this. I always liked the Lone Ranger when I was a child, and when I heard that Gore Verbinski got his 'Pirates of the Carribean' star Johnny Depp into the role of Tonto I didn't need much else to convince me. But at the end of the day, the star of the show is always gonna be the guy playing the famous masked man that shouts "Hi-yo Silver... AWAY!!!"... so who better to give the part in Disney's newest version of the classic charcater to one of the rising stars of Hollywood, Armie Hammer.

Hammer is probably most well known for playing both of the Winklevoss twins in "The Social Network". He really brought those characters to life and played the smooth rich kid (s) well opposing uber geek Marc Zuckerman (Jesse Eisenberg) about stealing the idea of Facebook from them. What most people do not know is that Armie almost became a full blown star a few years back when he was tapped to play Batman/Bruce Wayne in the massive Justice League movie that never took off.

That one never worked out (Thanks alot DC Comics... meh!) and Hammer chipped away acting in all sorts of stuff until he hit the jackpot with 'The Social Network'. It's good to see him get a shot at a tentpole film and possible franchise starter. Good luck Armie... Be on the look at for this one sometime in the next few years (I can't believe I just typed that... grrrrrr!!!).

Look At Joseph Mazzello, All Grows Up!!!

Thanks to Lindsey's cool ass Tumblr, we get to see actor Joseph Mazzello growing up on film right in front of our eyes. First as Tim Murphy in 'Jurassic Park' way back in 1993, then as Dustin Moskovitz in 2010's The 'Social Network'. Thanks for this Linds... I would have never known it was him!

CCD Jacks The Oscars - Year 2: Mike D's Oscar Picks

Another year in film has come and gone and, my, what a year it's been. The Academy Awards air live this Sunday February 27th and a lot of us will be front and center for all the action!

While my addiction to movies (via Netflix Instant or in the theater) is well documented on this blog, it should come as no surprise that I take the Oscars quite seriously. Why you ask? Because I know that they are a 50/50 representation of everything I love about film. They represent 50% of whats right with making films, and 50% of what sucks about the film making industry. Excellent films like 'Winter's Bone' (this year) and 'Frozen River' (2 years ago) would never be known to the public at all if not for the Oscar nods they got. Would 'The King's Speech really have made over $100 million if it wasn't Oscars darling this season? I think not. But it's not all roses. The Oscars also represent the conformity that is required in Hollywood to get the nominations, let alone win an Oscar. Honestly, how can you snub Chris Nolan for 'Best Director', or never nominate a horror film for any awards despite how wildly popular they are (check the numbers... horror makes bank, son). I have seen all 10 of this years 'Best Film' nominees, and frankly the only one I can see myself constantly revisiting would be 'Inception' and 'True Grit'. That's not to say I didn't like the others... I just didn't LOVE them. I saw plenty of other films this year that I did love (um... Scott Pilgrim anyone?), yet they are missing. So it goes.

CCD Jacks The Oscars - Year 2: Jeff Bond's Oscar Picks

Another year in film has come and gone and, my, what a year it's been. The Academy Awards air live this Sunday February 27th and a lot of us will be front and center for all the action!

I'm saddened, once again to see a shit-ton of my favorite films totally snubbed in one way or another. Films like 'Get Low' which featured some of the greatest film work of Bill Murray and Robert Duvall to date...or 'The Town' which was yet another showcase of Ben Affleck's directing talents! Not too mention the absolute genius that was 'Enter the Void' or 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World'! But, I digress...the Academy wants what the Academy wants. So in choosing this years possible winners I've stuck to the nominees even when making my own personal picks for favorites to win. Without further ado I give you my Academy Awards picks for the year AND as an added bonus, since I am the author of 'Lego Iconic' articles monthly here at CCD, I've included film art made up entirely of Lego  ....and dreams.

OHC Of The Day: Rooney Mara

I have been eagerly anticpating the announcement of who would play the female lead, Lizbeth Sadler, in the US adaption of "The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo". The Swedish book series, called the Millenium triology by Stieg Larson, is a huge bestseller & the Swedish film was the biggest in that countries history. The big female stars of Hollywood have been circling this part for months now. Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johanson, Carey Mulligan... all of the young starlets would sell their souls for this part. Well, looks like David Fincher went in a different direction. He has chosen relative unknown (at least compared to those chicks above) Rooney Mara in the coveted part. Who is Rooney Mara? Well, I'm glad you asked. She brought the female heroine Nancy back to life in the 2010 remake of A Nightmare On Elm St, and she was pretty good at holding of the Dreammaster in the so-so movie. She is also set to appear in Fincher's The Social Network, which tells the story of the guys who created Facebook. That movie is going to be large, so expect to see Mara begin to gain some recognition shortly. She is also the granddaughter of New York Giant owner Wellington Mara, on her pops side... and Art Rooney, the owner of the Pittsburg Steelers, on her moms side. That makes her a double billionaire heiress as well. This means she can take the roles she wants in order to become a better actress since she don't need the money. Her sister Kate is also an actress (and future OHC of the day, lol) that is currently playing Eric's assistant on Entourage.
