CCD Jacks The Oscars - Year 2: Mike D's Oscar Picks

Another year in film has come and gone and, my, what a year it's been. The Academy Awards air live this Sunday February 27th and a lot of us will be front and center for all the action!

While my addiction to movies (via Netflix Instant or in the theater) is well documented on this blog, it should come as no surprise that I take the Oscars quite seriously. Why you ask? Because I know that they are a 50/50 representation of everything I love about film. They represent 50% of whats right with making films, and 50% of what sucks about the film making industry. Excellent films like 'Winter's Bone' (this year) and 'Frozen River' (2 years ago) would never be known to the public at all if not for the Oscar nods they got. Would 'The King's Speech really have made over $100 million if it wasn't Oscars darling this season? I think not. But it's not all roses. The Oscars also represent the conformity that is required in Hollywood to get the nominations, let alone win an Oscar. Honestly, how can you snub Chris Nolan for 'Best Director', or never nominate a horror film for any awards despite how wildly popular they are (check the numbers... horror makes bank, son). I have seen all 10 of this years 'Best Film' nominees, and frankly the only one I can see myself constantly revisiting would be 'Inception' and 'True Grit'. That's not to say I didn't like the others... I just didn't LOVE them. I saw plenty of other films this year that I did love (um... Scott Pilgrim anyone?), yet they are missing. So it goes.

CCD Jacks The Oscars - Year 2: Jeff Bond's Oscar Picks

Another year in film has come and gone and, my, what a year it's been. The Academy Awards air live this Sunday February 27th and a lot of us will be front and center for all the action!

I'm saddened, once again to see a shit-ton of my favorite films totally snubbed in one way or another. Films like 'Get Low' which featured some of the greatest film work of Bill Murray and Robert Duvall to date...or 'The Town' which was yet another showcase of Ben Affleck's directing talents! Not too mention the absolute genius that was 'Enter the Void' or 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World'! But, I digress...the Academy wants what the Academy wants. So in choosing this years possible winners I've stuck to the nominees even when making my own personal picks for favorites to win. Without further ado I give you my Academy Awards picks for the year AND as an added bonus, since I am the author of 'Lego Iconic' articles monthly here at CCD, I've included film art made up entirely of Lego  ....and dreams.

Toy Story 3 Wants The "Best Picture" Oscar... Now Please!!!

Toy Story 3 was one of the highest grossing movies of the year and also one of the best reviewed movies of the year. Even though there are some great animated movies out there this year, its looking like TS3 has the best animated feature Oscar locked up. So Disney is shooting for the whole she-bang and looking to win the Best Picture Oscar. Why is it so hard to imagine? It made boku bucks (over a billion bucks worldwide) and is truly heartwrenching... its better then most dramas at tackling sensitive subject matter. It's also wildly entertaining. So why not?

The people over at Disney & Pixar have decided to hit on all the previous winners of the Best Picture Oscar that fit a "non-traditional" model... movies like Godfather II (a sequel), Lord of the Rings: Return Of The King (a genre picture & a sequel), West Side Story (a musical), and Titanic (big popcorn movie/high grossing). So we are getting a few "For Your Consideration" posters campaigning for the Oscar. Here are the ones that have been released so far:

Ever since Christopher Nolan boggled our minds with the release of 'Inception' and it's subsequent month long run in the number 1 spot at the box office,  people are taking notice. Some have taken to their computers to re-conceptualizing their favorite films with an 'Inception' styled flair.

You may have caught the 'Toy Story 3' re-imagining that hit the web a few weeks ago...

 ....but how about 'Bill & Ted's Excellent Inception.'...

Cool Subway Ad's For Disney's "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" & "Toy Story 3"

These are some shots that I took at the 4th Ave/ 9th St. F/J train station. They have an awesome 3 panel display that they use for movie ad's. Most of the time they are three related ad's, and these were the last two that I saw there. First up was the Toy Story 3 Ad's featuring Buzz Lightyear and Woody, and then they just added The Sorcerer's Apprentice posters, featuring Jay Burcel (The Apprentice), Nic Cage (The Sorcerer) and Alfred Molina (The Villian). Thoought I would share with you guys. Can't wait to see what they put up next!!!

Toy Story 3 Is The Place To Be

Over the weekend I went to the movies. I wanted to see Get Him To The Greek, and had no problem getting tickets... because everybody at the theater was there to see Toy Story 3. Holy shit... I never really thought of the massive appeal that this movie is going to have. All the children who were youngsters when the first two came out are in their 20's now, so they are going to want to see how Andy and the gang end up. Then you factor in all the young children now who love Woody and Buzz and are dragging their parents to see the movie, and you get one ecclectic mix of movie goers who are rumored to have pushed the film close to $110 Million dollars over its opening weekend. Predictably, the other film opening this weekend, Jonah Hex, got crushed by the juggernaut that was Toy Story 3. I have not seen it yet, but I'm sure Mikey will get me to go check it out. CCD's Summer Movie Picks - Jeff Bond

Iron Man 2 came out on Friday, and kick started the summer movie season with a bang. Here at CCD we all have lots of love for the cinema, so I figured we should all put together a top 5 of our most anticipated features of the summer... not the most popular, not the biggest blockbusters, not the most star filled... these are the ones that WE want to see. Next up, everybodies favorite Lost Blogger, the man of 1,000 poses... Jeffrey "Don't Call Me Smokey" Bond !!!!

#1- EXPENDABLES - Since the '80s I've been saying that somebody ought to put together a film with all my favorite action stars battling it out in one way or another. What a dream of mine it has been for me to see Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and others knee deep in explosions and gunfire...together. I have been eagerly awaiting this film's arrival...not just since it was announced a year or 2 ago....but since I was 9 years old.
