LEGO Iconic Vol #11 by Jeff Bond

I am such a huge Lego nerd that words can not explain. Soooo I've decided to use my favorite blog site CCD.com as an outlet to get some of this stuff that I see every day, built out of bricks, out of my skull and onto the blogosphere where it can't hurt my cerebral cortex. Each month I'll be posting the best of the best hoping to inspire the Lego maniac in each of you...young and old.  Enjoy!

Getting things started off this week is Legohaulic who hustled this month to create a ton of Lego iconery (spellcheck says that's not a word! F you spellcheck!)

'TV Show Mashup' is a mutli-generational geek's dream pairing the comedic duo from 'Gilligan's Island' with the island landscape of 'Lost'. Looks like 'The Skipper' and his 'Little Buddy' just stumbled upon the hatch that poses a question which poses another question ....and another question...and another. For their sake, I hope it's just Ginger down there slipping into something more comfortable. Loving the small dome shaped piece used to create the Skipper's jolly belly.

'TV Show Mashup'

'Atlantean Warrior' is another piece dreamt up by Legohaulic, with what appears to be quite a few 'Lego Bionicle' pieces used in a not-so-orthodox way to create the armor of an undersea gladiator. I'm not sure where those fin pieces originate from but I MUST get my hands on some. You know...for voyages to the bottom of the sea! 

'Atlantean Warrior'

I'm sure Theodore Geisel, himself, would be very proud to have inspired such a piece from Legohaulic. 'A.B.S. Snorter & His Lego Brick Sorter' imagines one of Dr. Seuss' vehicles down to the multi-extended robotic hands and cartoon gloves. Here's those posable fingers and hands I pointed out in my last installment, put to use in a wubbulous way. Watch as the bricks get picked up here, vacuumed up there, and sorted in all different fantasmagorical ways! I dunno how he did it but 'haulic seems to have eliminated most traces of brick-top to display a clean, cartoon like surface on everything in the piece...except for the sorted bricks that it!

First up, an old stand-by, Profound Whatever, offers this re-imagining of Disney's lucky hare (whose name  he mixed with that of JFK assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald of course) armed to the whiskers in heavy artillery. The tubes used for spent bullet casings were an awesome touch and ya' gotta love the new design that's been popping up for fingers and hands for this scale creation. Mickey...watch the f*ck out!

...also Profound Whatever created this homage to the iconic image 'Flower Chucker' from guerrilla artist and talk of the town Banksy (original image below). The likeness is uncanny.

Larry Lars offered up his heart....umm...hearts this Valentine's Day, all made of Lego. We heart his work here at CCD.

A shout out to Lego Iconic regular follower, Edson, for forwarding us this post on  Kotaku which spotlighted the talented work of Flickr poster Pecovam. A lot of the builder's work involves Video Game inspired custom painted Lego Minifigs....and that's a mash-up that makes us proud.

Even Vader Wants To Kill Jar Jar... Get Em Boba!!!

Hey, Episode 1 haters... suck on this one time!!! 

Check out this cool Lego Star Wars short movie by M2Films entitled Bombad Bounty that re-imagines some key elements of the original Star Wars trilogy... by adding the clueless Jar Jar Binks into the mix (I wish I could see Joe Esq face as he read that last sentence... the smoke must be pouring out of his ears!!!) Now, before you guys start crying foul, understand that its a funny video, clearly made to be a joke, and that Jar Jar is a clueless baffoon. You gotta love Vader's arm cast, the Millenium Falcon guitar, the Indiana Jones rock mowing down Boba Fett on the Death Star, and Yoda on drums... great, funny video all around. Great job guys. Keep em coming!!!

Stormtroopers, Lovecraftian Old Ones, and Graboids... Oh My!!!

Here are some wacky videos that have come my way over the past two days. Thanks to all you guys emailing me these cool stories, because I watch these videos and I laugh my head off. Hope you guys enjoy!

First up, we see what Stormtroopers do when they want to let off a bit of steam on the dance floor. This guy breaks it down son! Check out the two little troops CGIed into the background, and R2D2 providing a little rebel flare to group. I like the modern take on Singin In The Rain... not as good as Alex in A clockwork Orange, but still good. Shout to Jeff Bond for this one.



Next up, we get an animated re-telling of one of my favorite H.P.Lovecraft stories, The Call Of Cthulhu. It may not be the way you remember it (Cthulhu won an Oscar??? WTF) But it is still cool as shit. Thanks to The Brothers Grim & Grimy for this 2 minute masterpiece.



Frank Robnik and the boys over at IO9 bring you a firsthand look at the underground world of Graboids, or the wormlike creatures that tortured the life of Kevin Bacon and the dad from Family Ties in the 90's movie series Tremors. That was one of my all time favorite 90's movies, and this informational video helps keep me out of harms way. Stay on solid ground, clown!!!

Star Wars Trifecta Part #1 - Pixar Wars

I came across this link on the recommendation of fellow CCDer Tommy Lombardozzi. Our boy Tommy knows art, and this mash-up is one of the best I have ever seen. The artist name is Sillof, and you can see more of his work here. This guy is great at re-imaging characters, and this Star Wars/Pixar project is testament to it. Lego Star Wars/Indiana Jones Photo Art

Photo artist, and GENIUS, Vesa Lehtimäki  has an awesome array of Lego Star wars and Lego Indiana Jones photo art posted over at flickr where he also has some pretty clever captions posted for each. You can read more about him over at Wired. Apparently, he submerges the Lego figures and vehicles completely in water than sprinkles artificial  snow into the tank with them creating a larger scale 'snow globe' effect. The resulting photos seem to come alive. Here's a handful of my favorites, but please check them all out!
