What If 'Wicked' Were A Disney Animated Film? Artist Minkyu Lee Shows You What It Would Look Like...

I recently took the wife to see 'Wicked: The Musical' on Broadway, and I have to admit that I think I left the show more enthralled than she was. I read the original book by Greg Maguire around two years ago and I really enjoyed it. I have long wanted to see the stage show, and my wifey's bday gave me an excellent excuse to get it done. It seems that I wasn't wrong with my lofty expectations, as the show was amazing! It really blew me away, and the story came to life on the stage. But with the fan friendly subject matter (a prequel to the Wizard of Oz??? Who doesn't want to watch that?) and excellent song book, it seems that it is a no brainer for a company like Disney or Pixar to come along and scoop this puppy up for animated adaption. Nothing is in the works yet, but one animator from Disney is taking a bit of initiative for the sake of his portfolio by coming up with some great prototypes for the key characters in the play... and it is exactly what a fan would hope/expect to see from Elphaba and the rest of the Wicked crew. Animator Minkyu Lee has worked on The Princess & The Frog and and Frozen, so the dude is qualified. Very good stuff, and even more proof that this adaption could work. Check out the first series of pics he has released of his Wicked prototypes after the jump, and check out his Tumblr for even more animated goodness by clicking here...

These Are Animation Ready: Phil Postma Goes Pulp....

Once again Phil Postma knocks it out of the park and gives me a glimpse into what is possible from Pixar. None of these represent actual movies in the pipeline and that is a shame. I would watch any of these properties done in the Pixar style that Phil seem to perfectly replicate here. Check em out after the jump...

The Students & Faculty of Monsters University Get Their I.D. Cards

Monsters University is the upcoming prequel from Pixar to their classic Monsters Inc. In the new film we take a look back to where best friend monsters Mike & Sully first became acquainted with each other... college of course!!! I really like the idea that is being put forth in this sequel and it is great to see where this friendship began and what their relationship is built on. I am also looking forward to seeing some familiar faces from the grown up monsters of the first movie back in their college days as well... and how great will it be to see the Monster staff & faculty? It will all unfold on June 21st, but to hold you over check out some cool I.D. cards after the jump....

DC Heroes Done Pixar Style By Phil Postma

How cool would it be to have a new TV series done entirely in this style? Anything seems possible in this golden age for animation. Maybe somebody at Disney needs to pitch something other than John Carter 2. You can play around with some of the character designs (like having the characters look LESS like The Incredibles just wearing different costumes) but the concept is solid. The same goes for the Marvel figures. I like the bulky bodies on characters like Wolverine and Captain America. Seeing them in action would show off why they are superheroes. Check out more of Phil Postma here and here... and more of my faves after the jump.

Marvel Heroes Done Pixar Style By Phil Postma

I would even settle for just an Ant-Man series done in this style of animation. You could do so much imaginative things in the environment Ant-Man operates in. He rides a bee and everything around him is 100 times larger than he is used to seeing. Ant-Man has a different perspective and way of thinking all the time when he is doing his superheroics. You also can't do better than a slinky Black Widow. All of these pieces come courtesy of Phil Postma's awesome blogs Minion Factory & Minion Control. Check out some of them after the jump...

365 Supes: A Drawing Challenge by Artist Everertt Downing

I love hearing about long term art projects, especially geeky ones. This one took place over the course of 2012, and comes to us courtesy of Pixar artist Everett Downing. He wanted to get all the ideas that were stockpiling in his head onto paper so he started the 365 Supes project which had him coming up with 365 different superheroes/villains over the year, one a day. It is an ambitious project, one that almost got all the way completed. He made 292 entries in all... not to shabby  Just 70 some-odd more to go, but the 292 are pretty amazing. He also set up some ground rules: 1) No design should take more than an hour 2) Very small and limited back stories (which are included with most entries) 3) Come up with a clever name for each of them . He has an unreal blog of all of the creations he has made so far that you can see by clicking here, and Downing vows to finish the rest up over the next few weeks. I included my favorite ones after the jump. Enjoy them for yourself, and leave your favorites in the comment section....

Pixar Presents The Expendables 2

This one goes out to my main man Jeff who has been eagerly awaiting the release of The Expendables 2. the only way I could dream of possibly improving on the action tentpole smash would be by incorporating Woody and the rest of the toys from the toybox into megawatt action segments. Great mashup video From the guys over at IGN. Check out the video after the jump...

Up Wars: The Golden Years by James Hance

Mashups come and go, but having that certain "wow" factor is what differentiates the great ones from the average. James Hance is certainly taking his artwork towards the great side of the aisle. Today's mash-up features a much older Han Solo & Princess Leia getting the ole Pixar 'Up' makeover. It is heartfelt and moving, and honestly perfectly thought out. Click after the jump for the full pic...

Is The Incredibles 2 On The Horizon??? Well... Not Exactly!!!

Wow... wow. In this era of sequels and franchises dominating the movie industry, how is it possible that we do not have an Incredibles 2 movie as of yet? This doesn't really make sense when you think of the fact that there is a Cars 2 and a bunch of those Chiuaua movies, yet no movement on the Pixar classic superhero story? Why lord, why!!! Anyway, an artist from The Netherlands (Edwin Rhemrev) has decided to put an end to this travesty himself. He has designed a shit ton of concept art for a proposed sequel, and it is spreading around the 'Net like wild fire. If you are a fan of The Incredibles , you need to continue after the jump to have your mind blown...

Meet The New 'Cars' From Cars 2

Check out these wonderful new 'Cars' from Pixar's Cars 2... these cars are from all over the world, and will be competing with Lightning McQueen in the World Gran Prix. I have to be honest, I pretty much love all of Pixar's movies... but Cars was definitely my least favorite. You have to take that with a grain of salt, because I thought it was good, but something has to be at the bottom of the list, right? Anyway, check out these new Cars, and tell us what you think about this upcoming sequel in the comment section below. Jeff, keep your pants on OK? Cars 2 opens June 24th.

Shu Todoroki - Japan

Carla Veloso - Spain

Raoul CaRoule - France

Holly Shiftwell - England

Finn McMissile - England

And here is the trailer for the movie (looks good!!!):

Toy Story 3 Wants The "Best Picture" Oscar... Now Please!!!

Toy Story 3 was one of the highest grossing movies of the year and also one of the best reviewed movies of the year. Even though there are some great animated movies out there this year, its looking like TS3 has the best animated feature Oscar locked up. So Disney is shooting for the whole she-bang and looking to win the Best Picture Oscar. Why is it so hard to imagine? It made boku bucks (over a billion bucks worldwide) and is truly heartwrenching... its better then most dramas at tackling sensitive subject matter. It's also wildly entertaining. So why not?

The people over at Disney & Pixar have decided to hit on all the previous winners of the Best Picture Oscar that fit a "non-traditional" model... movies like Godfather II (a sequel), Lord of the Rings: Return Of The King (a genre picture & a sequel), West Side Story (a musical), and Titanic (big popcorn movie/high grossing). So we are getting a few "For Your Consideration" posters campaigning for the Oscar. Here are the ones that have been released so far:

These are great!!! Do you think Toy Story 3 has a shot against likely "Best Picture" candidates The Social Network, Black Swan, Inception, and Scott Pilgrim vs The World (yeah right... hehehe!)? Let us know in the comment section below!!!

Marvels Mightiest Heroes Get The Tron Treatment

If there is one thing that Disney knows how to do, its collaborate. It makes it a bit easier when you are collaborating in house. Last week we show you guys the Toy Story/ Tron mashup the guys from Pixar did. Now we get Disney's newest business partner, Marvel, in on the act. Check out these cool variant covers that will be hitting stores soon featuring some of the most impressive characters in the Marvel Universe. Cal ran these puppies a few days ago, and other sites started putting em up yesterday, so I just wanted to keep my CCD'ers in the loop.

For The Academies Consideration: Piranha 3-D, Is It Oscar Worthy?

Following in the rich tradition of Joe Dante's 1978 cult classic Piranha and the 1981 James Cameron film Piranha II: The Spawning (Yeah THAT James Cameron... it was his first film) comes Alex Aja's Piranha 3-D. This whole movie has awesome written all over it. In my opinion, horror movies are the genre that translates best to 3-D since they have the most jump moments and great possibilities for extending the disgusting level to epic proportions by making it jump off the screen. I am really looking forward to this film in the next few weeks. Anyway, the cast, lead by the comprable Jerry O'Connell teamed up with the funny guys over at Funny or Die came up with a compilation video of why the Academy should consider their film for an Oscar... and any Oscar will do. This is great, and even though its tongue and cheek, they make some good points. Watch your back Pixar!!! (Best line in the clip) Enjoy, and tell me if you are going to see Piranha in 3-D next week in the comment section below.

Star Wars Trifecta Part #1 - Pixar Wars

I came across this link on the recommendation of fellow CCDer Tommy Lombardozzi. Our boy Tommy knows art, and this mash-up is one of the best I have ever seen. The artist name is Sillof, and you can see more of his work here. This guy is great at re-imaging characters, and this Star Wars/Pixar project is testament to it. Hope you guys enjoy the pics... which one is your favorite? Who else should they have included? Tell us in the comment section below!!!
