Tim Burton Is Back With 'Big Eyes'... This Is What I WANT TO SEE FROM HIM!

Tim Burton has always been an intriguing director to me, and I certainly do love a bunch of his films. 'Beetlejuice', 'Pee Wee's Big Adventure', 'Batman', 'Edward Scissorhands', 'Ed Wood', and 'Big Fish' are some of my favorite films. But he has had some mis-steps, lately, and people are beginning to tire of a 50-something year old director who won't really expand his style and keeps making films with a child-like quality to them. But with his next entry, 'Big Eyes', he seems to be shooting for that "real" quality that he did so well in 'Ed Wood' and 'Big Fish'...and it looks awesome! It tells the true life story of artists Walter (Christoph Waltz) and Margret (Amy Adams) Keane. Walter became famous for paintings that he supposedly drew of children with huge eyes, but in reality the artistic genius was that of his wife, Margaret. They built an empire on a lie, and this is the story on how it affected them in their lives. It looks amazing, and it has an insane supporting cast: Danny Houston, Kristen Ritter, and Jason Scwartzman ...just to name a few. This is the kind of thing I would like to see Burton do more often and I think this kind of movie will go a long way in repairing his image. Let's hope so. Check out the trailer after the jump...

Will 'John Wick' Put Keanu Back On The Action Movie Map?

There used to be a clear cut definition of the calender when it came to movie releasing. Studios put out their garbage and postponed movies from the previous year from Feb-May, June to Aug was Summer Blockbuster Season, October was horror movie release month, and Nov through Jan was Award Season release and rewards (the movies that win get rewarded with long post Oscar runs into Feb). It was pretty set in stone, and rarely did studios vary from this formula. So Feb-May and the month of Sept-Oct were dumping grounds for unsure products. But now Summer movie season has been pushed back to the END OF APRIL... and Awards season is following suit by releasing films in the wee weeks of September for your consideration. Studios are even getting huge hits in March & April with movies like 300... so it doesn't really matter anymore WHEN a movie is coming out. So when I heard about Keanu Reeves new hit man movie 'John Wick', a movie releasing on October 24th, for the first time in mid September I got a bit nervous. This must be a crap film, a dump... right? But it took just a 2.5 minute trailer to convince me otherwise. This movie is not going to be a summer blockbuster... nor will it be Oscar bait. So why not squeeze what looks like a cool, competent movie right in the middle of those two seasons? I think this movie can be a great one for Reeves, and even though it might not make mad money it will do a lot for his cred. And what a great supporting cast: Adrianne Palicki, Bridgette Moynahan, Ian McShane, Willem Dafoe, John Leguizamo, and Alfie 'Theon Geryjoy' Allen himself.... wow! Need more proof? Check out the trailer for yourself before you judge...

The ABC's Of Death 2 Gets A Red Band Trailer... Yup, This Looks Even More Fucked Up Then The First One!

Good lawd.... The ABC's of Death was an interesting take on a anthology horror film. 26 directors took there shots in 2-5 minute short film that could be in any medium possible. The only thing they all had in common was that they all were given a letter, and they must chose a word to describe the type of death that would be featured in their segment. Like A is for Apocalypse, B is for Bigfoot... you get the idea. The direct to VOD release was a huge success and the word of mouth behind it made it spread like wild fire. Sure, some of the segments were great and some sucked... they all weren't for everyone. But they were all pretty good, and very original. It was also cool to see all the type of mediums the directors used, as well as the different style of directing from segment to segment. So like any good horror film that is successful, it is getting a sequel. The ABC's of Death 2 features 26 new directors for another trip down the alphabet... and these look even better (by better I mean more bizarre and sicker) than the original. I can get behind this... the film will be released on VOD on October 2nd, and will also have a limited theatrical run around Halloween. Will you be checking it out? Check out the red band trailer after the jump...

The Expendabros: An Online Contra-style Game That Crosses The Expendables With BroForce...

BroForce is an online game that is in the 8 Bit style of Contra, Double Dragon and Jackal... it channels the 80s aesthetic of the old NES side scrolling action games that we all grew up with and love so much. So a mash-up between the game company and the upcoming Expendables 3 is a pretty obvious choice to promote the movie. Enter Expendabros, a game that is exactly like BroForce but features Barney and the gang taking on terrorists, blowing shit up, and kicking ass in general across the board like it was 1986 all over again! What a cool game, and the character design is so cool... you can find the game by clicking here, and check out fantastic stills and character design sketches after the jump....

'As God Says'- Takashi Miike Takes On The Killer Kid Set...

Takashi Miike is a dude that always keeps me wanting more. He is your typical Asian director in a sense that his sensibilities are quite wacky and is willing to take you to the edge... and then a bit further. But he is even wackier than some of his contemporaries. Which says quite a lot, since most of the Asian horror guys have no limits. But if they have no limits, than Miike is the Endless... go to the end of every other persons disturbing ideas, and you are just a the beginning of his! So of course he is taking on a classic Japanese Manga comic by the name of 'As God Says' (Kamisama no lu Tori). While people will immediately begin to search for comparisons to books/films like Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, it is actually quite a bit different. How would you react if you were a teen, and when you arrived at high school you were forced to compete in a bunch of kiddie type games (like Red Light, Green Light and Mother May I) that resulted in traumatic injuries and death if you lost. Holy Shit. Wow. People getting heads chopped off, losing limbs... and all because of not hop scotching fast enough or not finding an open spot in Duck Duck Goose. Amazing. I will watch anything Miike makes, but this one really has me psyched. Check out the short teaser trailer after the jump...

The Hateful Eight: Quentin Tarantino Takes On The Prairie, Stage Coaches, And The Old West...

QT is probably one of my favorite living directors, and his last few efforts (Inglorious Bastards and Django) have done nothing but make those sentiments stronger. In a world where directors are pumping out products, directing TV pilots, and executive producing pretty much everything in the world... Tarantino does a great job of doing what he does best: developing a unique concept, writing a script filled with killer dialouge and putting together one hell of a visual picture. Quentin got a bit mad when a script for his Wagon Train old west adventure picture The Hateful Eight got leaked on line and he abandoned the picture. He said he wasn't going to make it... but just six months or so later the project has gotten new life and it seems like QT is all set for a early 2015 shoot with a Christmas 2015 release (just in time for Oscar consideration BTW). The synopsis is insane, and the first poster looks fabulous. And this cast.. are you kidding me? Bruce Dern, Walter Goggins, Sam Jackson, Mike Madsen, Tim Roth and Kurt Russell... wow. As usual, no real big name women named so far. Just Amber Tambelyn. But knowing QT he will get a career making performance out of her before he makes her a star like he did Uma, Diane Kruger and Kerri Washington before. Check out the official synopsis and full poster after the jump....

You See... Michael Bay Isn't So Bad, He Is A Perfectionist !!!

You gotta love The Onion. Those guys know how to exploit a situation. When the 2014 SD Comic Con rolled around people from every news outlet, both reputable and unreasonable, flocked to Cali to cover it. But while all of these people were trying to gets scoops, attend panels, and  be the first ones with some sort of "news"... The Onion just does what it does best: Make shit up that sounds good enough to fool people to be true!!! First they leaked a great story about a new "Green Goblin" that would be left handed... and people all thought it was true. Then they outdid even themselves... they created this amazing behind the scenes documentary that captures the in depth nature that Michael Bay goes to in ensuring that everything is factually correct in any films he is associated with. Everything... down to the turtle cocks in his newly produced TMNT film!!!! Hol-y SHIT, this is amazing!!! And they even had to CGI the fake dongs in order for the footage for the faux behind the scenes feature... which means the footage is in fact REAL (if you follow my logic anyway...). Yup, this is great. The Onion, never stop being the best at what you do....

'Manimal': Has There Ever Been A Film More Perfect For An Actor/Director/Production Team?

Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay have had great success throughout their careers together. 'Step Brothers', 'Talledega Nights', 'AnchorMan' 1 & 2... these guys make magic when they work together. But like any successful guys in Hollywood, once they get a few hits under their belts, they have formed their own company (Gary Sanchez Productions) to create their own projects from the ground up. The first project of the Gary Sanchez's company is going to be 'Manimal'. Yes, 'Manimal'! The cheesy 80's TV show in which a guy who was raised 'in the mysterious wilds of Africa' has the powers to transform into animals to fight crime. Yup, I already want to see this movie. But when you add in the partnership they entered into with Sony Pictures Animation it gets even better. Yup, the movie will be a triple threat, sporting sequences of live action, animation and a combo of both ala Roger Rabbit. No exact word on who will be in the film or will be directing it, but I wouldn't be surprised if some of the usual suspects turn up. I would love to see Farrell as Dr. Johnathan Chase... but I would equally enjoy Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell or John C Reilly or anyone else affiliated with past Ferrell projects in the role as well. Sony Animation has a pretty packed slate in the upcoming years ('Hotel Transylvania 2', full on animated Smurfs movie, a Popeye and Medusa flick as well) so it may be a few years before this comes out... I am guessing 2017-ish. But take one look at the clip from the show that is embedded after the jump and you will be anticipating it just as much as I am...

So The First Ant-Man Poster Is Here... Complete With Floating Heads And All!!!

So there has been a lot of talk about the Ant-Man movie project over the last few months, between the epic casting announcements a while back (Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Patrick Wilson) and the revolving list of directors (first Edgar Wright, then Adam McKay, and now finally Peyton Reed) attached to the film. But it is moving full speed ahead now, and is scheduled for a July 17th, 2015 release. With only a year of promotion ahead, and the 2014 SDCC about to kick off, we are sure to get a bunch of 'Ant-Man' information, footage, and news in the next few days. Shit, even Michael Douglas is set to appear at the Marvel panels this weekend, and Liberace don't have to do promos if he don't want to! But, the first news (and great news at that) has to be the beautiful first 'official' poster for the film. It features typical corniness like floating heads in the background and the like... but, it also has an amazing shot of Ant-Man in all his helmeted glory warping from mini to large as he flips in one classic shot. It also features a full suited Ant-Man atop a flying insect... yup, this is what we, or at least I, have been hoping for. It will be a key part in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3, and alongside 'Avengers 2: Age of Ultron' next summer, we should get some great new characters to add to the mix we already have (Pym & Lang Ant-Men, Evangeline Lilly might be Wasp, Scarlett Witch, Quciksilver, Ultron, etc). Enjoy this first official piece of movie merch after the jump, and expect a lot more to come in the next few days....

Nova Prime, Rhomann Dey and Yondu Get Character Posters For Guardians of the Galaxy!!!

Any good movie has great starring characters, but it is the strength of the supporting cast that will really cement the property as across-the-board amazing. We have been going wild hearing about the five main characters that will make up the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' (Star Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax and Gamora), and we were also intrigued when Ronan the Accuser and The Collector were named as villains. But who else will be making appearances/cameos in this film to fill out the character components of this film and may provide Easter Eggs  for future Marvel Cinematic movie universe films? Well it seems that the Nova Corps will play a huge role in the movie, with characters Nova Prime (played by Glenn Close) and Rhomann Dey (played by John C Reilly) occupying key positions among the intergalactic police force. Will Richard Rider (the full time hero known as Nova in the comics) be one of those cops? Maybe. But theses two alone prove that the Corps will be intricately involved in story lines for future movies to come. Then we have Yondu. Yondu was an original member of the Guardians of the Galaxy back in 1969 when the comic premiered. But in this inclination he will not really occupy that role. It seems he will be the adoptive dad-type for Star Lord, and will start Peter Quill down the path of scoundrel and law breaker before he becomes a hero. After a heist they pull together , Quill vamooses with their goods and Yondu and his gang of outlaws called the Ravagers follow him and the rest of the Guardians across the universe trying to get it back. A dual role of father figure and, later, foil for Yondu, played by director James Gunn's favorite co-contributor Michael Rooker. Can't wait to see all these characters play out on the screen... two more weeks baby! Check out the three posters after the jump....

Kevin Smith's 'Tusk' Gets A Poster.... Yup, It Is Just As Weird As The Premise For This Movie!!!

Anyone that knows me knows that Kevin Smith is one of my favorite directors of all time. The guy can do no wrong in my book. Hell, I even really like Jersey Girl (Affleck was more of the bomb in this than Phantoms yo... hehehe). I was very disheartened a bunch of years back when smith announced that after filming Cop Out he was pretty down on filmmaking and was contemplating retirement from the movie business as a whole in favor of his newest interest, podcasting. After all, he was tired of the studio grind, tired of dick head actors (he hated working with Bruce Willis on Cop Out) thinking they were better than the writer/director, and really loved the freedom podcasting allowed him. But a funny thing happen on the walk away from behind the camera into the podcasting booth... he ended up becoming inspired to work on new, creative endeavors in filmmaking from topics brought up on his many Smodcasts! He immediately began work on Tusk (a crazy film which you can see the description of after the jump) as well as numerous other projects, and his retirement has been put on hold for a bit. The fruition of his "renaissance" period is about to begin with the release of the trailer for Tusk (which will be launched at SD Comic Con 2014 at Smith's annual pannel) in a few weeks, and we are getting a glimpse into the dark world of Tusk with the first poster... released today via the Internet (typical Kev being Kev). The guy knows how to use the 'Net to his advantage, that is for sure. Tusk opens sometime this fall. Check out the film synopsis & poster for Tusk after the jump...

Will 'Gone Girl' Possibly Be Able To Live Up To The Hype?

'Gone Girl' is David Fincher's newest film, and it could not have more expectations set upon it even before it opens. Even though it opens in October, long after Summer Movie season, it sports an epic cast and is based on a huge selling novel of the same name. The adaption has been a long time coming... and considering Fincher's controversial handling of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo adaption (I liked it, not everyone did) it is an interesting project for him to bounce back with. The pressure is there, and having Batman as your star (I mean Ben Affleck, not Adam West!) certainly puts even more eyes on the movie and how it will turn out. Everyone I talk to who has read the book raves about how it twists and turns, and how much mystery it actually contains. I can't think of anyone better than Fincher to take this kind of film on. A long form trailer is finally here, and it looks interesting to say the least. I really like the supporting cast as well (Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Emily Ratajkowski, Patrick Fugit and Tyler Perry) and think they can make for an eclectic movie. Will you be looking to check this one out to kick off Award Season? Check it out after the jump...

'Snowpiercer' May Be The International Movie To See This Summer...

Ho-ly SHIT! I just saw the trailer for Snowpiercer, the South Korean import film from Bong Joon-ho (director of The Host & Mother, both insanely great flicks) that marks his English speaking film debut. The film is an adaption of a graphic novel La Transperceneige, a French comic by Jacques Lob. The film focuses on a dystopian future in which mankind has forced a new Ice Age while trying to cure global warming. The only surviving folks, rich and poor, live on a train called 'Snowpiercer'. The train has a perpetual motion engine and travels along a world spanning track. The rich people live in the front of the train, and as you get to the rear of the train you travel down in class. At the rear of the train is the poorest of the poor, the ones who keep the train functioning. Lead by a rebel named Curtis (Chris Evans) they begin to travel car to car towards the front, overthrowing the guards and taking control of the train. Bloody car after bloody car, the class system that has been set begins to crumble and a true power struggle ensues. Who will control the train, rich or poor? Whoever comes out on top controls the only environment that is fit for life... wow, what a great concept that looks even more bad ass on screen. The futuristic, yet primal conditions on the train (who fights with axes in 2031???) make this movie even crazier! The film also stars Jaime Bell, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Ed Harris & Alison Pill. Snowpiercer receives its US release June 27th, and will gain a wider release if the market dictates. They got my money for sure... how about you? Check the trailer out after the jump...

The First Look At 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Courtesy Of Entertainment Weekly....

Mad Max: Fury Road has been a long time coming. Long delayed, the film is finally getting a spring 2015 release. Given how long the film has been in production, it is a relief to see that it finally coming to fruition. The reboot of the 80s franchise that launched Mel Gibson's career is staring Tom Hardy & Charlize Theron, and one can only hope that it lives up to expectations. Entertainment Weekly is previewing the movie in an upcoming issue and the cover gives us our first look at Hardy & Theron in full costume. Hardy is certainly channeling the vintage Max look, and Theron is sporting a shaved head and a robot arm. I'm interested... check out the full cover after the jump....

The Trailer For 'Dear White People' Is Hysterical... And Tells Us The Real Meaning Of Gremlins!!!

Dear White People is a movie that is setting the post Sundance world on fire for its humor and poignant look at race relations in the year 2014. It is really funny, and I for one can't wait to see it. It has been making the rounds on the limited release circuit, and now it will get its proper due in a full Indy theater release in October. The trailer shows a lot of potential in writer/director Justin Simien, and I especially like his bit on the "real" meaning of Gremlins (one of my favorite movies, and I never looked at it like that). It has an impressive cast, including Tyler James Williams (Everybody Loves Chris), Dennis Haysbert (24), and Tessa Thompson (Veronica Mars). Check out the full trailer and poster after the jump....

So Guardians of the Galaxy is hurtling towards touch down (it opens on August 1st) and anticipation is building. But with all the news about directors leaving (Edgar Wright/Ant Man) and casting news (Vincent D'Nofrio as Kingpin in the Daredevil Netflix show) they can use some good news to take peoples mind of shit. So right on schedule we get a batch of one sheets featuring the whole team of GOTG... and of course Rocket & Groot are on the same one!!! We get Drax, Gamora, Star-Lord, and Groot/Rocket... and my lord do they look awesome! You can see all four of the posters as well as the team lobby poster after the jump...

How To Ride Your DinoBot... Now This Is How You Promote A Movie/Toy Tie In!!!

Transformers: Age of Extinction is almost upon us (It comes out June 27th) and Hasbro is ramping up its promotion to maximize the connection between the film and toys they have coming out based on the film's characters. If 'Age of Extinction' isn't a big enough clue as to which Transformers will see, these short promo videos will definitely due the trick. We are getting a huge heaping help of the DinoBots... and in a clever nod to 'How To Train You Dragon' we get 'How To Ride Your DinoBot', which feature a frustrated Bumble Bee looking to ride his DinoBot buddy Swoop... but he can't seem to get it done! Chapter 2 sees Optimus trying to ride Grimlock, and he ends up with another method of traveling! And the third episode has Slag teaching the Transformers how to use the weapons available to them. Enjoy the clips after the jump... lets just hope that Transformers: Age of Extinction is half as good as this!

'Sausage Party' - The 'R' Rated Animated Movie From Seth Rogen & Co You Have Been Yearning For !!!

So, Seth Rogen is a golden god in Hollywood right now... and his team of friends/co-contributors are right there alongside of him, enjoying the limelight. He and his writing partner Evan Goldberg have been killing it. All his 'This Is The End' co-stars are signing on for tons of flicks, and every time this crew puts something into the cinema it seems to rake in the dough but, they are never content. Nope, they are not resting on their laurels any time soon. So, they are looking to move into another venue of cinema, and I for one couldn't be happier. They are foraging into the world of animation but, they are doing it in their own way... and I am sure it will be filthy!

Se more after the jump...

Guardians Of The Galaxy Gets A Second Trailer... I Can't Possibly Be More Excited !!!

They are the Guardians... of the Galaxy!!! Wow. I have not really yearned to watch a film for a very long time. Marvel is taking a lot of gambles with this film... using a comic as the basis for a film that almost no one outside the hardcore comic reading world knows, having a living tree and a talking raccoon as two of the five team characters, and taking their whole cinematic universe off of Earth and beyond the stars. I don't know how it is all going to shake out or if the film will be a success, but judging from how good the footage has looked and Marvel's recent track record I am not betting against it. The second trailer has arrived, and in this one we see much more of Star Lord's helmet, and what he is capable of. We also get the famous 'I am Groot' line we have all been waiting for... and a little crotch adjustment from a 3 ft raccoon. Yup, this one will be pretty great. Check out the new trailer after the jump. The movie arrives August 1st!

I Am Posting The Trailer For 'Rage' Simply Because It Has Nic Cage In It... You Got A Problem With That?

Nic Cage may be one of my favorite actors, but I can't deny that he does tend to get himself into some shitty movies. But the fact that he continues to produce multiple films a year at least leaves the possibility that he may surprise you in one of these roles eventually. 'Rage' might just be that movie this year... even if it looks to be a straight American set remake of 'Taken'. Cage stars as an ex con trying to get past his terrible past. He is just trying to live his life after doing his time, and he wants no part of the streets. But it seems the streets still want a piece of him, or at least his family. So they kidnap his teen daughter played by Aubrey Peeples (the actress playing Jem in the upcoming Jem & The Holograms movie) and start on a path of drawing him out of retirement to pay for something he had done long ago. Add in Danny Glover as an overprotective friend cop and we got ourselves a stew going! I liked the way Cage worked with Amber Heard in Drive Angry (a good, fun solid movie despite a ridiculous premise), so maybe Cage could generate some screen chemistry with Peeples and make this movie work. I'm in... how about you? The film hits theaters July 11th. Check out the trailer after the jump...
