F@#k You Lego... Just F@#k You Very Much!!!!

Legos have been around forever (since 1949), but for the most part they were pretty uniform for the majority of those 60 years. Regular square & rectangle pieces of different sizes made up the majority of the sets, and you were left to try and make magic happens with some very basic shaped pieces. But as my boy Cal over at the Cave of Cool & CCD's resident Lego enthusiast Jeff Bond have pointed out on many occasions, these are not your Daddy's Legos. They have been stepping it up with crazy shaped pieces, play sets, collaborations with popular comic & movie properties, and Lego figures that have allowed the possibilities of creations to become endless. It is like Lego is saying "Haha... fuck all you old people" and rewarding the youngsters with more & more cool shit. Case in point: Lego plans on releasing a Haunted House. And not just any Haunted House... a classic Universal Studios type Haunted House, with things like a gramophone, a fireplace with a ship in a bottle, a desk for Dracula to write letters, and a FUCKING ZOMBIE CHEF!!!! Are you kidding me??? Check out this video and watch in awe at what Legos have become... well played, Legos, well played!!!!

LEGO Iconic Vol #11 by Jeff Bond

Getting things started off this week is Legohaulic who hustled this month to create a ton of Lego iconery (spellcheck says that's not a word! F you spellcheck!)

'TV Show Mashup' is a mutli-generational geek's dream pairing the comedic duo from 'Gilligan's Island' with the island landscape of 'Lost'. Looks like 'The Skipper' and his 'Little Buddy' just stumbled upon the hatch that poses a question which poses another question ....and another question...and another. For their sake, I hope it's just Ginger down there slipping into something more comfortable. Loving the small dome shaped piece used to create the Skipper's jolly belly.

'TV Show Mashup'

'Atlantean Warrior' is another piece dreamt up by Legohaulic, with what appears to be quite a few 'Lego Bionicle' pieces used in a not-so-orthodox way to create the armor of an undersea gladiator. I'm not sure where those fin pieces originate from but I MUST get my hands on some. You know...for voyages to the bottom of the sea! 

'Atlantean Warrior'

I'm sure Theodore Geisel, himself, would be very proud to have inspired such a piece from Legohaulic. 'A.B.S. Snorter & His Lego Brick Sorter' imagines one of Dr. Seuss' vehicles down to the multi-extended robotic hands and cartoon gloves. Here's those posable fingers and hands I pointed out in my last installment, put to use in a wubbulous way. Watch as the bricks get picked up here, vacuumed up there, and sorted in all different fantasmagorical ways! I dunno how he did it but 'haulic seems to have eliminated most traces of brick-top to display a clean, cartoon like surface on everything in the piece...except for the sorted bricks that it!

LEGO Iconic Vol #10 by Jeff Bond

First up, an old stand-by, Profound Whatever, offers this re-imagining of Disney's lucky hare (whose name  he mixed with that of JFK assassin, Lee Harvey Oswald of course) armed to the whiskers in heavy artillery. The tubes used for spent bullet casings were an awesome touch and ya' gotta love the new design that's been popping up for fingers and hands for this scale creation. Mickey...watch the f*ck out!

...also Profound Whatever created this homage to the iconic image 'Flower Chucker' from guerrilla artist and talk of the town Banksy (original image below). The likeness is uncanny.

Larry Lars offered up his heart....umm...hearts this Valentine's Day, all made of Lego. We heart his work here at CCD.

A shout out to Lego Iconic regular follower, Edson, for forwarding us this post on  Kotaku which spotlighted the talented work of Flickr poster Pecovam. A lot of the builder's work involves Video Game inspired custom painted Lego Minifigs....and that's a mash-up that makes us proud.

I am 'Brick Junk' this week on all the Lego inspired art that has been forwarded to me and that I've found, myself, from hours of surfing the bricker-net. Kudos to my agents of Lego Iconery for all your help!

First up, my boy Ochre Jelly over at Flickr created his first homage installment to my second favorite Sci-Fi film franchises of all time. Those 'damn dirty apes' of the 'Planet of the Apes' franchise. Brick shall not kill brick! Dig the 2nd 60's retro poster inspired collage framing the monkey participants in all their Technicolor glory.

Spotted first on Topless Robot by my partner in crime, Mr. Mike D, forwarded me this Lego on Metal 'Viking Odyssey' short film created by the geniuses of CollegeHumor.com. Makes me wanna make cool things  out of Lego and bash them at the walls!

Larry Lars has some explosive 'Halo' customs over on his Flickr page. To me, these actually rival the  exclusive 'Halo' figures sold by the dreaded Lego competitor Mega Blocks. Great job, Mr. Lars!

Orion Pax just CANNOT be stopped when combining Lego with one of favorite childhood toys..The Transformers. You'll remember he was the creator of the transformable 'Shockwave' and 'Optimus' in prior Lego Iconic posts and these two new additions work just as well. Transform...and roll out!

Thire5, Martin Latta, offers up this intricate and merciless 'Terminator' bust with working light-up eyes sure to make you have a major malfunction.

Lego Iconic: Spooky Halloween Edition by Jeff Bond

CCD All Horror Week continues and I couldn't help but to piece together a fitting tribute to the holiday...made entirely of brick! The bulk of these artistic works take the form of macabre mini-figures but there's also some horrific holiday customs that take a larger scale. Enjoy....and beware....

Big Daddy Nelson offers this creepy undead witch and keeper of the jack o' lantern patch entitled 'Change of Seasons'. If I encountered this gruesome ghoul on a walk through the woods I may have to 'change my shorts'.

Morgan 190 whose Lego Mini-fig customs made primarily from,  believe it or not, existing Lego elements offers these creepy little buddies for the holiday. Surely you agree, the photography and C.G. editing makes these toys spring to life in the most gruesome of ways. Which is the creepiest? Jump to Morgan's flickr page for hundreds more!!
