There are fan films... and then there are FAN FILMS! You know what i mean. A regular fan film will be 2-3 minutes in length and may feature a cool moment when you see flashes of brilliance from the person who put it together. But when dealing with a FAN FILM! you are automatically thrust into a uber realistic movie experience that is usually quite long in length and features outstanding effects and looks fucking great. There is a big difference. These are life changing, since you probably will never get a big budget version of these films. But since they are so good, you don't really need a studio version. Case in point: Blue Core Studios and their Sonic the Hedgehog fan film. 18 minutes long. A digital Sonic with wisecracks to spare. Killer action. robots. spaceships. This is fucking great. By far the best way to spend 20 minutes today (and if you have more time, watch their epic Mega Man video there as well). Enjoy the work after the jump... and try to not hearken back to the Sega Genesis days of your youth to hard while at your cubicle!!!!

Sonic, Lord of the Rats
This is a fantastic digital short from the dudes over at Dorkly that kind of shines a light on what might happen in the world of Sonic the Hedgehog when he releases one of those animal traps of Dr. Wiley. Maybe Wiley isn't so evil after all... and maybe Sonic is regretting helping out this particular group of furry creatures after all. My favorite part? Has to be when Sonic tells Tails to cover his genitals!!! Love this video... check it out after the jump....

Nicky Barkla Adds Some Color To Some Of The Most Recognizable Characters Of Fiction
Fan art is one of the most popular things we feature here on CCD. I think it is the familiarity of the characters that attracts people to these pieces. But every once and a blue I come across someone who takes those familiar characters and tosses them on their ear, recreating them in a way that inspires awe despite the fact that we have known these characters for years. Australian artist Nicky Barkla does just that with her over-sized rainbow painted character portraits, and they are fantastic. The swirls of colors are hypnotizing, yet they do not take away from the recognizable features that each piece possess. Plus she is a bit of a hottie herself (check out her self portraits....ming!!!). You can click here to see all of her work, and you can click after the jump to see my faves...

Video Games vs. Real Life Volume 2
You may have seen the original artwork of Aled Lewis gracing the chests of many Threadless.com tee shirts but, I came upon a few of these great works of his through various websites, tumblrs and blogspots for a previous post a couple of weeks ago and was amazed to find out they were attributed to the same artist. In his works, Lewis has transposed some of our favorite video game characters into existing real life web photos. Since my original post, Aled Lewis hasn't let up. Mashing up new images almost daily. Sometimes comedy ensues and all times the result is pretty damn cool. Follow him on Flickr.com and let us know if any new ones pop-up! Maybe he'll take requests? I just can't get enough of them!

LEGO Iconic Vol #5 by Jeff Bond

Sasuki has these neat CGI rendered Video Game inspired Lego Mini figures. So they don't actually exist in the real word. Who cares... they rock!

Like! Like? Special Edition: The Art of Mark Henry
While perusing through the interwebs for art that agrees with me for my next installment of 'Like! Like?: Art edition', I came across the artwork of one, Mark Henry of Berlin (or Anjinanhut as he goes by on DeviantArt.com) and, after a further investigating, I was certain there was no way I could fit ALL the brilliant works he had created into a post as well as 20 or 30 other artists work so I decided he deserved a post all his own! His entire body of work is most impressive but, the ones that called out to me the most were of video game characters that I grown up with. New renditions of Earthworm Jim, Mega Man, and the Mario Bros. were just a few of the many characters that seemed alive on his post page mingling together, separately, on backgrounds of baby blue. I hope the new detail given to each puts a smile on your face as it did on mine. Enjoy and be sure to also check out the rest of his work over at DeviantArt by clicking here
First up Mega Man...or Rock Man as he's known in Japan....
