Critical Hits Cocktails Takes Over Geek & Sundry Vlogs To Make Your Geek Drinking Dreams Come True...

Geek and Sundry Vlogs has a stable of great geek related videos over at their Youtube page. That is a given... but some are definitely more appealing to my particular geek sensibilities than others. Critical Hit Cocktails does just that, with host Mitch Hutts, takes nerd friendly characters and properties and comes up with awesome drink recipes to satisfy your geeky palate. They make both alcoholic and non alcoholic recipes, and the best part is that if you take some of their non alcoholic drinks and just add a spirit of your choice you can still get a buzz out of it! These are great, and Hutts minds the classics for his inspiration. TMNT, Harry Potter... hell, the newest video is a Star Lord inspired drink, which is fitting since Guardians of the Galaxy is killing it right now. The best part is the instructions are easy to follow and the ingredients are simple and easy to obtain. So in just a few minutes you can turn yourself into the Nerdiest Mixologist of all time! All of them are fun, so make sure you check em all out... I will be making some of these behind the bar this weekend, so I will let you know how they shake out!

The Legend of Dark Link

I caught this awesome Internet video over at The Warp Zone on Youtube and I was laughing hysterically the whole time. It traces back what really happened when Link wandered into that cave and met the wizard to get his sword. Let's just say he wasn't the only one out adventuring that day... Dark Link was right there with him!!! Gotta love some racist humor, especially when it involves kid punching... Check it out after the jump...

The Andre The Giant Show: Episode #1 With Guest Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones Producer)

I like when people take chances... it is one of the only ways you can show your talents off. You can't be cookie cutter if you want to be noticed. Andre the Giant impressions are a dime a dozen... his unique voice makes him an easy idea when someone wants to make an impression funny. Jason Segal has mastered it, and turned it into material across numerous platforms like his movies and even SNL. So if you can find a way to bring a new spin to something that is old hat, well then you have the opportunity to be special. Comedian Mike O'Gorman might be on to something with his latest project, The Andre the Giant show on Youtube. O'Gorman becomes the 8th Wonder of the World and gets behind the desk (albeit a pretty tall desk) to conduct his own late night talk show. The first episode taps Game of Thrones producer Bryan Cogman as the special guest. The wig is great, the voice is spot on, as is the aloof nature that we would expect Andre to have exhibited if he was a host. The jokes are good (Andre's face when he finds out Game of Thrones is a book = Priceless), and what happens when Andre encounters Cogman's copy of Game of Thrones is one of the funniest things I have seen in a while! I hope they make many more of these. They have their own Youtube channel, and so far one episode is posted. Subscribe on Youtube to not miss a single episode! Check it out embedded after the jump...

'Star Wars' Gets The 'Guardian of the Galaxy' Trailer Treatment... And It Is AMAZING!

Even though Star Wars came out way back in 1977, it is still the movie of choice of most self respecting Sci Fi geeks in the world. So it is no surprise when Star Wars pops up in mash ups with current properties. But the latest instance that I saw was just to great not to share. The Unusual Suspects took the most recent Guardians of the Galaxy trailer and mashed it up with footage from the old Star Wars films, and boy are the results a ton of fun to watch! This trailer mash up captures the fun and comical essence of the Star Wars films and also highlight the superb Sci Fi style that was present in the Star Wars franchise. This makes me want to watch the original trilogy over again. Watch both the Guardians and Star Wars mashed up trailer after the jump for comparisons...

The True 'Dark Knight' Detective

I have been a bit burned out on blogging over the last few weeks, so I took a well deserved break. Not really a break since this was the busiest week of the year at my job at the bar... but a break from my nerdy pursuits. But when I saw this over on Cal's Canadian Cave of Cool I knew I had to break my silence. I am back on the blog, and happy as I could be. True Detective was a whirlwind success for HBO (shocker, right?) and was the talk of the town over the past few weeks for the way the show rapped up. But one of the many things that I always really liked about the show was the opening montage. The song is spooky as shot, and the smoky visuals set the scene for the intense show to come. But in the age of the epic mash-up, how can you not insert some of Gotham's greatest figures into that setting? Batman is the Dark Knight Detective, so he fits right in as Rust Kohle with Dick 'Nightwing' Grayson filling the slot as Marty. This is as epic a mash-up idea as I have ever seen. Well done and executed by Josh Newman. Perfect way to segue back into the daily blogging world. Check out the full video after the jump...

Mario Seinfeld - A Parody About Nothing by Esquire Bob Animations

I am always down to watch a quick animation clip, especially one that involves my favorite plumber of all time. But throw in a tie in to the greatest sitcom ever, and you got my two minutes. Animator Esquire Bob has a very well stocked Youtube page loaded with cool ass shit, but his Mario Seinfeld clip has got to be the crown jewel in the crown. Its great.... specifically because the casting is spot on. George would definitely be Toad, and Kramer is a great Luigi. But the best casting choice of all: Newman as Bowser !!! Your princess is in another borough !!! Lol. This is really funny. I hope to see more of them in the future. Check out the full clip after the jump...

Comic History 101: Just Who Are Hank Pym & Scott Lang Anyway?

IGN is a great website filled with a ton of cool content. They seemed to have found a way to be helpful to people who are trying to understand the true comic origins of characters that companies like Marvel are using in their movies. After all, its nice to know a little back story on the characters, especially the true original stuff that lies in the dusty pages of comic books past. This episode of Comic History 101 tackles Ant Man... well, Ant MEN. There have been three guys who have donned the Ant Man costume throughout the years (Hank Pym, Scott Lang, and Eric O'Grady) in the comics, but only two (Pym & Lang) will be appearing in Edgar Wright's full length movie adaption. Before we can move forward, take a cool look back at the origins of the great characters that Pym & Lang both are... and they even got scans of the original comics to illustrate the key points. A perfect precursor for a comic virgin (or a great refresher for a vet like myself) before another huge movie hits the theaters. Check out the full video after the jump...

Super Powered Beat Down - Battle Of The Batmobiles

We have been following the gang over at Bat In The Sun productions for a long time now.. way back when they were making high quality Bat family fan films (check here and here if you don't believe me!). They have moved on to bigger and better things, most notably the Super Power Beat Down web series that they post over on their Youtube Page. Now in these mythical match ups they often choose 2 individuals from comics/sci fi and have them face off in a one on one battle to find out who would win a battle... think Wolverine vs Predator. But this particular episode stands out because instead of featuring individuals battling it out, they choose to focus on one of the baddest sets of wheels of all time: The Batmobile! Everybody has their own particular fave, but which inclination of the famous car that Batman drives would outperform the other? That is a question answered in the video after the jump... and make sure you watch the video all the way to the end for a little something special from host Marisha Ray!

Star Trek - An Animated Script by Breaking Bad's Badger Mayhew

One of the highlights of Breaking Bad's last season for me has to be Brandon 'Badger' Mayhew's proposed Star Trek script that he disclosed when he was high on crystal meth. This was a gem of script writing by Vince Gilliam, because he squeezed a funny homage to a nerd property into a probable conversation that two 20 something meth heads might have. So animator Matt Czap decided to animate the story and what we get is a spectacularly bizarre 2 minute Star Trek tale featuring Kirk, Spock and all the rest of the beloved crew of the Enterprise... even Uhuru and her "big pointees" (what a great line). Very funny stuff... you can see more of Czap's work over on Eat That Toast. Check the Star Trek video after the jump...

After Watching These Korean TV Commercials, I Am Extremely Proud To Be American...

I like crazy videos as much as the next guy. Especially if those videos are from another country... and just happen to be regularly broadcast TV commercials in those other countries. But after watching this batch of commercials from Korea over on Youtube, I might have to rethink my practices for my own sanity. On just 7 short minutes my mind in relation to product promotion has been completely blown. Farting dolls? Sausage crusted pizza? Robocop robbing a family dinner & household appliances? Yup... all of those things happen and much more. Check out this video after the jump if you are feeling unpatriotic... cause after this you will definitely be proud to be an American!

'Disney Princesses Spring Breakers' - Bibbidy Bobbidy Boo Bitches!!!!

I am super excited to get out and see Harmony Korrine's 'Spring Breakers', which features a bunch of young, nubile and sexy actresses who have done some work for The Disney Channel. But how can Disney capitalize on this concept for themselves? How about Disney Princesses Spring Breakers? Cinderella, Ariel, Snow White & Jasmine get it in... and instead of James Franco playing gangster rapper Alien, we get a blue skinned gangster genie!!! Bibbidy Bobbidy Boo bitches!!!! College Humor does it again, and I think this could be a better movie than the real Spring Breakers... check out the video after the jump!

Killer Karaoke: Proof That People Will Really Do ANYTHING To Be On TV!!!

There are plenty of reality shows that show us just how low people will go to appear on TV. Big Brother lets people watch their every move while they are locked in a house for a month. On Survivor people literally sign up to be castaways on some island with no supplies like Robinson Crusoe. On Teen Mom 14-16 year olds show what it is like to be... well, teen moms. Frankly there are no depths people won't go to for some glimmer of TV fame. But Tru TV has come up with a truly degrading and terrible experience for these fame seekers... and they have added music!!!! Welcome to Killer Karaoke, hosted by Steve O himself. In this show contestants pick a song to sing a karaoke version of... but they must do so while completing crazy stunts like sticking their hands in a box filled with snakes, stepping into boxes full of creepy shit like rotten fish guts, and giant fat men rubbing their sweat all over a singer... yeah, it is pretty fucking awesome. These numnuts are completely making fools of themselves, and I love it. Watch a few clips after the jump, and tune into TruTV for more live episodes on a regular basis.

Happy 50th Bday Michael Jordan!!!!

Michael Jordan is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. That is not a question. Before Lebron James, he was by far the greatest I have ever seen in my life. But MJ is much more than a basketball player. The dud helped usher in the new era of the NBA back in the mid 80s, and he helped change the status quo of what was accepted in terms of play and style. MJ had so much swag. The gold chain he rocked during the dunk contest? Gangster. The crazy colorways of his kicks, the baggy shorts and slouched socks? Signature MJ. Taking his shoe line to dizzying heights, and becoming the quintessential spokesperson for a plethora of companies (Mickey D's, Gatorade, Hanes, etc)? Getting money from all angles. And the 6 rings that he won for the Chicago Bulls? Proof ON THE COURT that the boy could ball. The dunks were gravity defying, the storylines (flu game vs Utah, getting Isiah banned from The Dream Team, etc) were legendary, and the sneakers .. oh my god the sneakers!!!! The sneakers may be the biggest contribution that MJ has had on my life, cause I have had at least 1 pair of each of the 20+ yearly editions that Nike has been putting out since MJs rookie year. I always wanted to hate MJ for what he continued to do to my hometown NY Knicks, but I couldn't because he was just too much fun to watch. Happy bday Mike... Check out some tribute videos after the jump....

Every Pop Culture Reference From Tarantino Movies In Chronological Order... In 5 Minutes!

I must start this article by saying that this video is a few month old and must have came out before Django was released because it does not have any traces of that movie in it (although I am not sure if Django had any pop culture references in it). I also love me some QT, so when I came across this cool ass video that tracks Tarantino's pop culture references into historical order from College Humor I just had to post it. He really does sprinkle in some good ones, right? Lots of movie, TV, and especially obscure music references. Great stuff. Enjoy the video after the jump...

Lost: The Role Playing Game

If you grew up in the 80s then chances are you were a fan of Role Playing Games, or RPGs for short. the most popular of these games was definitely Dungeons and Dragons, but there were literally thousands of these games on the market with subject areas from everything from war to super heroes (the Marvel Comics & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles RPGs was my favorites of all time). The basic premise was simple: you created a character by rolling dice to get you certain attributes (strength, agility, etc) and then your character was put through an adventure by someone leading the game (a Dungeon Master in D & D). There could be multiple players and anytime you encountered a task you would role dice to determine the outcome. The game was played entirely in your mind, and it was loads of fun. Then with invention of better gaming systems like NES and Genesis we saw the rise of video game RPGs. Final Fantasy comes to mind, and later games like Knights of the Old Republic and Fable. The basic elements of the original RPGs were there, but instead of using your imagination it was right their on your Television for you to see. Since the guys over at College Humor are a bunch of geeks, they thought it could be cool to imagine what an RPG that was set on Lost Island would be like. The following video is great as usual, cause the College Humor guys rarely disappoint. Check out the video after the jump for a trip back to the good old days of RPGs, albeit with plot holes, unexplained character threads and polar bears aplenty!

Watch Every Episode Of 'Dinner for Five' On Youtube

When I started college at Manhattan College back in 2000 the dorms had a sill, antiquated TV programming system in place that was like an old school hotel room. We had around 10-15 cable channels. Albeit good ones, but still only 10-15. ESPN, MTV, VH1, BET, TBS, TNT, HBO, CINEMAX... those were just a few I remember off hand. All the stuff the average 18-22 year old would probably watch, yet lacking in the sense that there were literally 100's of channels available on basic cable back then. It was very limited. But then in 2001 MC decided to switch to more traditional basic cable, and after a year of watching only 10 channels I began to explore the other options now available to me. One of the coolest channels I stumbled upon was IFC, or Independent Film Channel. And one of the coolest shows happened to be Dinner For Five, hosted by Jon Favreau. It was basically a group of film related people (actors, actresses, directors, producers, etc) gathering to eat an extensive homecooked meal and discuss stories about their careers. Jon moderated the show and remained the constant among an ever changing cast. There are over 49 episodes available, and now they can all be viewed on Youtube for free. They are around 27 minutes a piece and are an absolute joy to watch, and it is funny to see some of the guests who were mildly popular back in 2001-2005 and have gone on to become mega stars now. It is a great way to kill a few hours in front of the computer, and a celebration of great basic cable original programming in a time when basic cable original program is plentiful but usually very shallow. Click here to go to the Dinner For Five Youtube page (49 episodes plus tons of extras), and click after the jump to see the first episode that features Kevin James, Joey Lauren Adams, Peter Berg, and Jeanne Tripplehorn....

James Bond Says It Best...

My buddy Dave over at Exophrine is very talented at making original content videos for his website. He is also a bit of a James Bond freak like I am. So he decided to go through all of the Bond flicks and catch 007 uttering the film titles in the movies themselves. There are 5 instances where Bond does NOT say the title of the film, so obviously that couldn't be helped. But Dave sure does get the rest of it and makes one hell of a video. Enjoy it after the jump...

Sonic, Lord of the Rats

This is a fantastic digital short from the dudes over at Dorkly that kind of shines a light on what might happen in the world of Sonic the Hedgehog when he releases one of those animal traps of Dr. Wiley. Maybe Wiley isn't so evil after all... and maybe Sonic is regretting helping out this particular group of furry creatures after all. My favorite part? Has to be when Sonic tells Tails to cover his genitals!!! Love this video... check it out after the jump....

Gotham High: Please Make This Fan Edited Movie A Reality ASAP

Gotham City and it's inhabitants make for a great backstory... and all adults have had a childhood. Instead of wondering where to take the next Batman movie, why not take a look back at where some of these characters came from? The gang from Movie Trailer Clips decided to grab some of the most memorable moments of the past high school movies (10 Things I Hate About You, Bronson, Breakfast Club, Powder, princess Diaries, etc )that we all love and mold them into a faux trailer for Gotham High, which tells the story of teen girl Harley and her quest for love at the roughest school in the city. The gang is all here, with all the former cast members from Batman movies portrayed by roles they occupied long ago (Heath ledger/Joker from 10 Things I Hate About You, Tom Hardy/Bane from Bronson, etc) and you gotta love the made up cameos by characters like Powder appearing as Mr. Freeze. Great stuff. Check out the full clip after the jump. If I was her I would go with Anne Hathaway. She ended up pretty hot and lesbians are all the rage these days...

Now That Is How You Close Out A Show... Stop: Hammer Time!!!

Hol-y shit. I am not a fan of music award shows, but every once in a blue you get live music magic with some killer performances. The other night the American Music Awards knocked it out of the park with their show closing number. They brought out PSY to perform 'Gangnam Style', and first off let me say that I don't even mind this commercial fluff song in the least. This is probably the most fun and least annoying huge commercial hit ever... it just makes you want to dance. So how could PSY make his AMA performance as memorable as possible? How about bringing out one of the greatest dancers in entertainment history, MC Hammer? Yup, that will certainly do it.  It is good to see Hammer still got some moves, and props to PSY for bringing out a pioneer that has clearly influenced him as a dancer himself. Dope stuff... enjoy the clip after the jump...
