Lego Inception by VFX

I love opening my email box and finding something cool from my homies. Especially if it is a cool ass video that shows a recreation of the movie Inception made entirely of Lego's!!!! Thanks to my man Joe Fletch we get this phenomenal video from the VFX team that hits on all the highlights of Nolan's masterpiece, but does it with those little yellow guys that we all know and love. Some of this is almost as spectacular as the original.... just a bit more SQUARE!!! Check out the video after the jump....

Need Help Understanding Inception? Matt Dempsey Got Your Back...

Inception has been featured on HBO a lot lately and I have been watching it whenever I can. To me it is one of the most original movies I have ever seen and proves Chris Nolan is much more than the guy who brought back the Bat as a filmmaker. Like any complicated movie it asks the viewer to think and follow a multi-level story across multiple landscapes which can all be very confusing. This turns off a ton of people, but for the viewers who can dedicate their brain to the flick for two hours it is very rewarding. But web designer Matt Dempsey thought it could be very beneficial if he could design an interactive website to explain each level of the dreams in Inception. He color codes all of the characters and properly explains who is doing what on each level of the dream. Even though I feel like I got the movie (I'm probably wrong...lol), this animated info-graphic helped me out alot and made me that much more eager to revisit the film again. Thank you to Joe Fletch for bringing this to my attention. Click here to be blown away by Dempsey's wonderful website...

These Faux Movie Posters by Peter Stults Remind Me Of Something...

... oh yeah, that's right... they are eeirily similar to what our friend Sean Hartter has made famous over on his blog! Damn Sean, two mentions in one day! Lol.... anyway, these faux movie posters are pretty boss, and I only decided to post them because Stults himself (click here for original article) gave my boy Hartter props on inspiring the idea:

"Awhile back a friend of mine forwarded me a site (http://hartter.blogspot.com/2009/11/misc.html) where artist Sean Hartter made posters of films that, title wise, we were familiar with, but there was a slight difference; they were remade as if they belonged to a different era or a different genre, the name of the movie was there, but the actors were different, the style was different, and I loved the concept. So I went forward with this theme; what if movies we were all familiar with were made in a different slice of time? Who would be in it? Who would direct it? So here we are..."
Very cool to give props for inspiration. You can proceed after the jump to see my faves and then click here to see all the other ones that I did not include because all of them are pretty cool...

Movies As Pixel Art by Andy Helms

Check out these famous movie scenes and characters recreated in pixels by artist Andy Helms. I always find it interesting when pixel artists recreate a very intricate scene since they are severely limited to the low resolution that pixels guarantee. These are great... which one is you fave? Tell us in the comment section below. Thanks Edson!

'The Batman Complex' Is Something You Need To Watch If You Love Nolan's Dark Knight

Here is a cool fan made trailer that is making the rounds on all the big geek sites ( /Film, Topless Robot, etc)... which means I usually wouldn't have posted it since those guys had it covered. But this one is to cool to ignore. Here you go:

Here is what the creator of the faux trailer, The Man Batman, has said about the vid:

The gist of the idea revolves around a few fun topics, mainly the whole “what is real?” train of thought, and also every fans desire, deep down or upfront, to be Batman at least once in their lives. LOL. And so, I tried to craft a story where we see what happens when someone takes their dream of being Batman a little bit too far. An idea, after all, is a truly resilient parasite. ;)
While some of it is still left a bit ambiguous (both unintentionally and intentionally – while there’s only so much that can be strung together, I often like to leave a little bit open so as to see what fellow fans are able to imagine/create)… I wanted to focus more on the character aspects (and a bit of the tragedy as well), and attempt to move past the initial shock of the psychological twist. One aspect I tried to hint at was the paralleling descent of both Bruce and Cobb. As Cobb and the team go deeper into Bruce’s mind, they start to encounter the truly dark issues that his subconscious houses. As a result, Cobb himself gets caught up in the obsession of all that lingers in the mind of a Batman. There are a couple fun things in there that are best left to surprise, but all in all, I’m relatively happy with how it turned out. It’s fairly fast paced and doesn’t leave much room to breath, which helps amplify the tension I think. But that’s just me.

Inception, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight & The Machinist all in one? YES PLEASE!!! Would you watch this? Please leave some comments in the section below!!!

Ole Timey Inception by Rob Martin

We all love Inception. We all know how great it was and how it definitely got the shaft in the awards realm…

(let’s see what’s better, two guys having a conversation about stuttering in a overcast England, or two guys having a full contact battle in a 360 degree spinning room in a multi level dreamscape! FFZZZUUBUHHH!!!)

There’s been loads of Inception inspired vids floating around but this one takes a different route. It applies stop motion animation (rock) to vintage style photos and adapts them to the narrative of our favorite dream tromping troupe.

Apparently the video was done by an Austrian artist, Wolfgang Matzl as part of a short film contest put on by Jameson. There are several other decent entries on the site as well, but this one really stood out for me.

Inception+Stop Motion Animation+Irish Whiskey? What’s not to love!?

CCD Jacks The Oscars - Year 2: Jeff Bond's Oscar Picks

Another year in film has come and gone and, my, what a year it's been. The Academy Awards air live this Sunday February 27th and a lot of us will be front and center for all the action!

I'm saddened, once again to see a shit-ton of my favorite films totally snubbed in one way or another. Films like 'Get Low' which featured some of the greatest film work of Bill Murray and Robert Duvall to date...or 'The Town' which was yet another showcase of Ben Affleck's directing talents! Not too mention the absolute genius that was 'Enter the Void' or 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World'! But, I digress...the Academy wants what the Academy wants. So in choosing this years possible winners I've stuck to the nominees even when making my own personal picks for favorites to win. Without further ado I give you my Academy Awards picks for the year AND as an added bonus, since I am the author of 'Lego Iconic' articles monthly here at CCD, I've included film art made up entirely of Lego  ....and dreams.

'...and the Lego Oscar goes to....."

The 2010 Year In Review Meme: Jeff Bond Edition

Here is Jeff's Bonds 2010 Year in review meme... hope you enjoy!

1) 3 Favorite Movie Releases of 2010:

- 'Inception': A brilliant Mindf*ck. Chris Nolan is the director of the decade!

- 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World': One of the best but, also the most underrated film of the year

- 'The Expendables':  I've been imagining a film including all of the action stars I grew up with for a long long time. The success of this one means that sequels will surely follow with the cast of characters becoming more and more impressive.)

2) Favorite Song of 2010:

'All I Do is Win' -DJ Khaled (This was my 'club anthem' for the year)

3) Favorite Albums of 2010:

'BackSpacer' -Pearl Jam (This album came out late 2009 but, I didn't start playing the sh*t out of it until 2010. Arguably the best PJ album since 'VS.')

Honorable Mentions:

'Flamingo' - Brandon Flowers
'Black Gives Way to Blue' -Alice in Chains (also a 2009 release)
'Blueprint 3' -Jay -Z (also released in 2009 but, didn't get any real play from me until 2010)

4) Favorite "New" TV Show of 2010: AMC's 'Walking Dead'

5) Favorite "Old" TV Show of 2010: AMC's 'Mad Men' (Although it's been on for 4 seasons, I just started watching this summer)

6) Best Purchase you made in 2010:

Lego Mini figures: Such a brilliant idea on Lego's part. One of my favorite things about buying Lego, since I was 4 or 5 years old, is to get my hands on the Mini figs that come with each set. Lego decided to create dozens of Mini Figures and package them separately and enigmatically, like baseball cards,  so that they're a surprise each time. The fun part of this is that it gives Lego the opportunity to release figures like a zombie, a roman gladiator, clown, luchadore or even Dracula that wouldn't be so simple to build a whole series around. Fun to trade with friends...or create an army of clown clones! Pure genius

7) New Technology that you acquired in 2010:
3-D Bluray Player and LED TV. I'm in no way a 'Techy' I'm just happy to move my 29in TV back into the bedroom where it belongs and watch TV like a human after my 48in LCD burnt out 2 years ago.

8) Favorite Film you watched on DVD, Netflix or Cable in 2010: 'Danger: Diabolik'. A MUST see.

9) Celebrity That you loved in 2010 (1 male & 1 female):

Female: Katy Perry...hands down. Coolest chick ever. She makes fun music and loves to dress accordingly. She's got the sense of humor of good pal and even married one one of the coolest guys. You'd think I'd hate him for it but, how could one dislike Russel Brand?

Male: Tom Hardy! You might remember him from small parts in 'Layer Cake' and 'RocknRolla' but his first big film 'Bronson' may have been the most inspired work I've seen in a decade from anyone. In addition he steals the shine from every co-star in every film he's a part of. His character in 'Inception' was so quick tongued and brilliant. Both his style and responses to the press are classic. He's rumored to be off to the new Mad Max film these days but, he's guaranteed the top 'dramatic/action star' seat in Hollywood for an unforeseeable future.

10) Celebrity That you hoped would die in a plane crash (1 male & 1 female):

Female: I gotta say, I'm probably not wishing death on any women this year. Women REALLY have to be up to something paralyzingly obnoxious to make me THAT mad at them because, let's face it, they still have the parts I need! If I HAD to choose, though, I guess it'd have to be Heidi Montag from 'The Hills'. I didn't even remember her name and had to look her up...that's how insignificant she should be to everyone! She makes Paris Hilton look like natural born talent who's famous for doing something in comparison. Her every move is a publicity stunt to keep her in some sort of spotlight. Wishing her death via plane crash is probably something she has planned already, herself, for more notoriety.

Male: Michael Bay...every year...until his demise. That's it. I only focus on 1 person at a time until the deed is done. Ask your friends why Heath Ledger is dead.

Christopher Nolan Explains The Inception Ending....

.... by not explaining the Inception ending. What the fuck people? Do you really think the guy wants to answer questions about the end of the mysterious movie? If he did, he would have showed DiCaprio's totem and whether it fell or stood up. There is a reason he shot it that way... and why David Chase went to black at the end of the Sopranos. You want to know what it is??? It's because THEY WANTED TO.... why isn't that enough?

To be perfectly honest with you, I was so blown away by the complexity of Inception and how well thought & executed it was. Great performances by everyone (especially Tom Hardy!!!), amazing visuals, and one of the most original stories, ever!!!! But forget all that.... lets badger the director with constant questions that he never intends to answer... ever. This gets me so mad. I might not be some wonderful kind of journalist, but if I had a chance to sit down with a genius like Nolan I would not waste one second on a dumb ass question like this:
To quote the interviewer "So lets get to the question that's been asking since Inception premiered last July and promptly cooked our noodle. Did the top stop spinning or what?"

At this point, Nolan promptly reached for a bottle of water, took a swig, and then removed his belt. He then walked behind the chair of the interviewer, placed the aforementioned belt around his neck, and began choking him while he screaming "Is Chris Nolan gonna have to choke a bitch... Hows this for a top, you cock sucker!!!!". He also defecated on the dead reporter and took publicity photos with the corpse as to promote what will happen to the next reporter who asks how Inception "really" ends. OK... I made that last bit up. But here was his real response:
“I’ve been asked the question more times than I’ve ever been asked any other question about any other film I’ve made, Nolan laughs. That’s definitely the question. It keeps coming back to that. What’s funny to me is that people really do expect me to answer it. There can’t be anything in the film that tells you one way or another because then the ambiguity at the end of the film would just be a mistake, he says. It would represent a failure of the film to communicate something. But it’s not a mistake. I put that cut there at the end, imposing an ambiguity from outside the film. That always felt the right ending to me — it always felt like the appropriate ‘kick’ to me….The real point of the scene — and this is what I tell people — is that Cobb isn’t looking at the top. He’s looking at his kids. He’s left it behind. That’s the emotional significance of the thing.”
So... does that finally clear all that up for you imbeciles??? Also, Nolan dropped some knowledge on the fact that an Inception video game is in development and coming soon. I have to admit, I think Nolan handles himself admirably. My fellow blogger Vinny Mancini from Film Drunk is not so nice though... here is how he ended his article:
"It always amazes me that in 2010, you still have to explain to grown adults that fictional characters don’t have a secret life outside the works in which they appear. Air Bud spiked the ball and won the game dude, we both saw it. He didn’t become a longshoreman or start an optometry practice in Poughkeepsie."
Hahahahaha.... now that's the kind of writing I want to get from my reporters/journalists/bitter guys & gals who run a blog... that's what I'm talking about. Read Film Drunk, those guys are great. I can't wait for the Inception game, and I scour the headlines everyday hoping to see a "reporter choking" story involving Chris Nolan. Stay strong sir!!!

Who is the Architect? Ken...Lloyd Christmas? 'Ted' Theodore Logan...Han Solo? Right!

Ever since Christopher Nolan boggled our minds with the release of 'Inception' and it's subsequent month long run in the number 1 spot at the box office,  people are taking notice. Some have taken to their computers to re-conceptualizing their favorite films with an 'Inception' styled flair.

Lego Iconic Vol#2

I am such a huge Lego nerd that words can not explain. Soooo I've decided to use my favorite blog site CCD.com as an outlet to get some of this stuff that I see every day, built out of bricks, out of my skull and onto the blogosphere where it can't hurt my cerebral cortex. Each month I'll be posting the best of the best hoping to inspire the Lego maniac in each of you...young and old.  Enjoy!

Lego and Dr. Who enthusiast McMorran not only created a stupendous little Dr. Who & Tardis but also, took it along with him to the huge BrickCon convention and placed it within other builders' dioramas, with their permission, ofcourse, furthering the good doctor's adventure. Can you locate the Tardis and Doctor in each? Sweet!

CCD's Summer Movie Picks - Mr. Mike D

Iron Man 2 came out on Friday, and kick started the summer movie season with a bang. Here at CCD we all have lots of love for the cinema, so I figured we should all put together a top 5 of our most anticipated features of the summer... not the most popular, not the biggest blockbusters, not the most star filled... these are the ones that WE want to see. Last but never least, I present to you the bosses top choices... I know you have been waiting patiently, but the time has come. So with no further adieu, here is the J.J. Jameson of CCD, Mr. Mike D's picks:

My Top 5:

5. Dinner for Schmucks
4. Jonah Hex
3. Despicable Me
2. Get Him To The Greek

1. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - I have been fascinated with this movie since the first day I heard about it. First, the comic that it is based on was epic. The book has all this crazy magical/super power/kung-fu fighting stuff going on, but is played as part of normal everyday life. Secondly, Cera is a perfect match for the title character. Third, the amazing list of actors who will be portraying his slutty girlfriend Ramona Flower's seven evil boyfriend's is superb: Brandon Routh, Chris Evans, and Jason Schwartzman just to name a few. Fourthly, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is playing Ramona, and she is a joy to look at. And lastly, Edgar Wright is a fucking genius.... a perfect fit to direct this movie.

Honorable Mentions: Inception, The Expendables, and Splice

Hope you guys enjoyed our picks. Feel free to leave some comments about what you plan on seeing this summer... see you guys at the cinema!!!

CCD's Summer Movie Picks - Tommy Lombardozzi

Iron Man 2 came out on Friday, and kick started the summer movie season with a bang. Here at CCD we all have lots of love for the cinema, so I figured we should all put together a top 5 of our most anticipated features of the summer... not the most popular, not the biggest blockbusters, not the most star filled... these are the ones that WE want to see. Next up, "Artin' It Up" author and all around Rockin good guy, Tommy Lombardozzi!!!

My Top 5:

5- 'The Expendables'

4- 'Get Him To the Greek'
3- 'Predators'
2- 'Inception'

... and, at number one...

1- 'Get Low' - Why is 'Get Low' my number one anticipated movie? Robert Duvall and Bill Murray in a Southern-gothic dark comedy. And that's that!

CCD's Summer Movie Picks - Kate Jones

Iron Man 2 came out on Friday, and kick started the summer movie season with a bang. Here at CCD we all have lots of love for the cinema, so I figured we should all put together a top 5 of our most anticipated features of the summer... not the most popular, not the biggest blockbusters, not the most star filled... these are the ones that WE want to see. Next up, Reality Check author and my favorite sister-in-law, Kate Jones!!!

My Top 5:

5. The Last Airbender

4. Grown Ups
3. Shrek Forever After
2. Inception

1. Get Him to the Greek- As I have recently christened "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" one of my top 10 favorite movies of all time (I know that's a bold statement, but eveytime I hear Paul Rudd say "I wonder if the carpet matches the pubes" I feel justified), I need to see this. Russell Brand's genius portrayl of Aldous Snow in the first movie deserves its own showcase and I can't wait to watch it..

Nice picks Kate... see you guys at the movies!!!

CCD's Summer Movie Picks - Kristen Grillo

Iron Man 2 came out on Friday, and kick started the summer movie season with a bang. So, with no further ado... first up, Trailer Trash Talk superstar Kristen Grillo!!!

My Top 5:

5. Eat, Pray, Love. (This one is for the laaaadies!)

4. Piranha 3D. (Admit it. You know this will be terribly awesome.)
3. Inception. (Christopher Nolan? Leonardo Dicaprio? Nerdy sci-fi schtuff?! I'm so in.)
2. Cyrus. (Indie + John C. Reilly & Jonah Hill - Apatow's raunch humor / the ageless & always stellar Marisa Tomei = A perfect recipe.)

And.....as if you couldn't have guessed it yourself.......

1. The Expendables. - Why is this my #1, you ask? Well why the hell not?! And in case you missed it the first time around, I explain it all in detail right here: CCD: Trailer Trash Talk by KMG Vol#1
