Cereal Monsters by Phil Postma

I have been featuring a bunch of Phil Postma's art here on CCD, and I must make a disclosure. I do not know the man, and I have no hidden agenda when sharing his stuff. I do not make any money, and not using the posts to curry good favor from Phil, and don't know if any benefit will ever come of them. But I know one thing: The more I look through Postma's back catalog, the more unbelievable shit that I come across that I feel like I just have to share!!!! Take his Cereal Monsters collection for example. He did the 5 classic REAL cereal monsters (Count Chocula, Frankenberry, Boo Berry, Frute Brute, and Yummy Mummy), but he also added 7 of his own cereal creations that are just fantastic. You know how you know that they are good? Because not only id the art fantastic, but I actually would want to eat these fictional cereals! Check out all 12 after the jump....

What Ever Happened To The Forgotten General Mills Monster Cereals?

Everybody has seen (and eaten) the General Mills Monster brand cereals at some point in their lives. I have many fond breakfast memories with my friends Count Chocula, FrankenBerry, and Boo Berry. But despite the fact that I am a fatso who loves cereal, I have never heard of the Forgotten General Mills Monster Cereals: Fruit Brute & Fruity Yummy Mummy.

WTF are these? Count Chocula & FrankenBerry have been around since 1971, and Boo Berry has been around since 1973. Despite the fact you may not see them all year round on shelves at your local supermarket, General Mills does produce all three all year round. Stores just tend to only carry them at this time of year for marketing reasons. Fruit Brute & Fruity Yummy Mummy were introduced after these three (Fruit Brute in 1974 & Yummy Mummy in 1987). They have both been offically discontinued (Fruit Brute n 1983 & Yummy Mummy in 1990). But for the life of me, I can not remember either one of these bad boys.

Fruit Brute is a fruit based cereal that featured lime flavored marshmallows. Aha... maybe that's why this puppy was so short lived. Lime marshmallows??? What were they thinking. The cartoon werewolf on the box is a pretty cool character, and pop culture aficionado Quentin Tarantino has featured Fruit Brute in both Reservoir Dogs & Pulp Fiction.

Check out Lance (Eric Stoltz) eating Fruit Brute in Pulp Fiction:

Also check out this commercial for Fruit Brute from the 70's:

Fruity Yummy Mummy was the next generation of fruit flavored cereal with marshmallows... but this time the guys in charge decided on Vanilla flavored marshmallows instead of lime. This was probably a much better choice. Even though the shelf life of this product was right in my wheelhouse (1987-1990), I have zero recollection of both the cereal and its mummy mascot. Check out this commercial that aired promoting it:

Am I the only one who doesn't remember these two products? Do you remember these from your childhood? Please let us know in the comment section below. I will be stocking up on Boo Berry while the dumb ass supermarkets are carrying it for the Halloween season. Happy eating!!!
