The A To Z Blogger Challenge: Day 22 - V Is For V for Vendetta

V... V can only be for one thing... V is for Vendetta!!!!! Remember, Remember, The 5th of November.... Alan Moore & David Lloyd's classic graphic novel got a pretty great film version courtesy of the Wachowski  Brothers, and I can't possibly have enjoyed it any more. So well done, so perfect. Hugo Weaving, Stephen Fry and Stephen Rea bring us the British angle of the story, and I think the star of the movie has to be Natalie Portman as Evey. She is amazingly vulnerable, and eventually comes back stronger than ever due to the help that the main mystery man V gives her. I had the opportunity to meet David Lloyd last year and asked him what he thought of the film version of his comic that he drew, and he said he loved it as well. We all know that Alan Moore hates every type of adaption of his literary work... but if it gets a co-sign from one of it's creators (and its not the crazy one!!!) than it is good enough for me. I have always loved Natalie Portman, and after this movie I will always have a soft spot for her. So she is the obvious choice for the Letter V... because she is V. V for Vendetta by Cesar Moreno

Damn, Damn, DAMN YOU Mondo!!! The Texas based poster juggernauts are at it again and have just released a killer V for Vendetta poster that highlights the fire at Larkhill aspect of the story, one of my favorite scenes in the film version. It also forms the Guy Fawkes mask, which will always be associated with the story forever.Even though Alan Moore may not have liked the way the film version turned out, original artist for the series David Lloyd enjoyed it very much and told me so when I met him back at this years NY Comic Con. Artist Cesar Moreno knocked this one out of the park. It was made available yesterday, so get over to the Mondo web store Asap if you want any hope of scoring one of these for you own personal collection. You can see the piece after the jump....

New York Comic Con 2012 - Mike D Interviews David Lloyd

There are fewer comics that I actually have enjoyed in my life than V for Vendetta... yup, I said that out loud. And I don't care. Yeah, I know Alan Moore is a kook who has the look of a street urchin and makes ridiculous comments about the adaption of his works... especially V for Vendetta. Boy did he tee off on that one. But the story is fucking amazing, and the art was way ahead of its time. And I for one LOVED the movie adaption put out by The Wachowski Brothers... even if Moore fucking despised it! But one thing that constantly gets overlooked is that Moore's artistic counterparts often get overlooked when people rave about his works. Sure, comic geeks know David Gibbons drew Watchmen (as well as plenty of other great comics). But he is rarely looked at as an equal creator. Which he most certainly is... Moore might have scripted the drama, but Gibbons is the one who gives visual life to the characters. The artists on these books are often overlooked in the importance of bringing them to life, and that is a travesty. Which brings me to the point of all this... this past week I got the chance to meet and interview one of my personal idols in the comic industry, a man by the name of David Lloyd. Now for those of you who may not know just who David Lloyd is... well, you probably do and don't even know it. Ya see, Lloyd is the man who drew V for Vendetta. Yup, the guy whose name you probably don't know if responsible for that Guy Fawkes mask that V wore and yuppie Occupy protesters wear while protesting whatever it is they protest... he conceptualized the whole character and drew one hell of a book. And yet Moore is the only one people mention when discussing V for Vendetta. And that just sucks.

Just Another Reason To Want To See Sherlock Holmes 2

One of my favorite English actors, Stephen Fry, is going to star alongside Jude Law & Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes 2.... how great is that!!! Now I know most of you guys are probably scratching your head and saying to your American self: "Who the fuck is Stephen Fry and why is Mike D so excited by this casting?" Since I love you guys, I will give you three answers to that question. 

1. 
   
   Stephen Fry is an accomplished British actor, but you probably know him for playing Dietrich, the TV host and anti-establishment sympathizer in V for Vendetta. He was one of the best parts of a very good movie, and the part where he tries to save Natalie Portman from the goon squad that finds out he is hiding her is my favorite scene in the whole flick.
2. 
   
   He will be portraying Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock's older and smarter (that's debatable) brother. He appeared in a few of the Arthur Conan Doyle stories, and the ones he did appear in were great. Dude was like a cornucopia of  information and made Sherlock frazzled at the fact that there was someone out there just as smart as him (if not smarter)
3. 
   
   The more casting news that comes out of this movie, the happier I am. Sherlock Holmes was a wonderful flick, Ritchie did it justice beyond all expectations, and the original books are some of my favorite of all times. To know that the good Doctor Watson, the living Victorian computer Sherlock Holmes, and the rest of the crew will be back for another go around is music to my ears. Fry just makes me chomp at the bit some more... now, who's going to play the villain, Professor Moriarity??? Mr. Pitt, it's time for your close-up....
