20 Years Ago Today My Life Changed Forever...

On November 7th, 1991 I was a very happy go lucky 12 year old teenage boy who had many obsessions: Video Games, Girls, and Jordan's were all very high on my list. But nothing came before NBA basketball. Nothing. Michael Jordan was just starting his reign as the greatest player ever, the Knicks were extremely competitive and breaking my heart year after year, and the Lakers were still Showtiming it all over the floor lead by Earvin "Magic" Johnson. As a Knick fan, I could not root for Jordan, Isiah Thomas or Larry Bird because of the natural enemies they played to my favorite team. But Magic was a different story. He was exactly that... Magic. Watching him play the game was like poetry in motion...

Robert Rodriguez, Nike & Kobe Bryant Team Up For "The Black Mamba" Mini Movie

I saw the teaser trailer and posters for Robert Rodriguez's mini movie for Nike & Kobe Bryant called 'The Black Mamba' a few weeks ago, but held up on posting about it untill the complete film came out during All Star Weekend. After Bryant's MVP performance in Sunday nights All Star Game, I felt it was fitting to feature this cool poster and the complete short film here for you guys. I hope you enjoy Rodriguez's offbeat, zany grindhouse long form sneaker commercial/movie featuring Danny Trejo, Bruce Willis, and the rest of the Rodriguez regulars. Go get 'em Kobe... you really are the shit!!!

Fuck You Lebron... Fuck You Very Much!!!

So the Lebron James free agent saga is over. And as usual the Knicks are on the short end of the stick. So that means that not only did they not get LBJ, but they let him join Chris Bosh and D-Wade in South Beach to form one of the illest trilogies of all time.

So Fuck You Lebron... Fuck You Very Much!!! I'm not mad, I do see the appeal of The Miami Heat. I'm just a bit disappointed, thats all. Good luck to the Three Amigos in South Beach.... except when they play the Knickerbockers!!! 

One Down, One To Go... Welcome to NYC Amar'e

The NY Knicks have FINALLY started moving in the right direction after agreeing in principle to a 5 year/ 100 million dollar contract with superstar forward Amar'e Stoudemire. Contracts can not officially be signed till Thursday, but the team and the former Sun have promised to make the deal happen. The Knicks have tons of issues to address on the court, and Amar'e definitely is a step in the right direction. He is an explosive post player that can run the floor and most importantly he knows coach Mike D'Antoni's system. And when he goes up... well, jus ask Tim Duncan to my left what happens. He can fly, and he makes posters out of people on the regular. Should be fun to be on the other end of one of those highlights for a change.

On a side note, the Knicks are trying to show Lebron James they are serious about building a contender. By locking up the 27 year old power forward for five years, they are showing Lebron he will have pieces in place when he gets here to make a run for the title. Lebron is taking a few more days to make his decision, but is expected to have decided on which team he will suit up for next year. Lets hope this is something we can look forward to on 34th st. for the better part of the next decade:

If It's All About Winning....

Sports players always talk about it "not being about the money" and how they "want to win the big one because its all about winning". This is often what they say... but Lebron James and Dwayne Wade have a chance to actually put their mouths where the money is. All you want to do is win, huh? How about joining a team that has over 25,000 wins and just 350 or so losses over the last 40+ years? Instead of picking the K nicks, Bulls, or Nets, the Harlem Globetrotters have offered Wade and Bron a incentive laden contract that will pay them boku dollars as well as giving them some percentage in ownership of the team... something that is prohibited in the NBA. So Bron... you want to win, go to Harlem. You want to get money, go to Harlem. Chances are it won't happen, but wouldn't it be great? The Globetrotters are a class organization and do so much to help children and charities all over the world. If a marquee player would defect from the NBA and  join the legendary trick basketball squad it would be groundbreaking. So Lebron and D-Wade... how bad do you want to win?

Lebron James: Jesus In A Basketball Jersey and Some Nikes

On Saturday, Lebron James won his second straight MVP award, edging out Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat and Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Watching him play these first few weeks of the playoffs, I have come to the realization that we might be witnessing (pun intended) Jesus himself gracing the basketball court. Why not? If you ever seen Kevin Smith's epic religious film Dogma, he has a theory that God likes to come down from heaven and take human form to do human things, like play skee ball. Well maybe Jesus was a big basketball fan, and he got tired of watching the humans half ass it... so here he is, number 23 for the Cavs. Rejoice in his splendor!!!

Obviously I am only joking about Bron actually being Jesus... but there is something heavenly about watching him play the game. D Wade, Kobe, Durant... those guys are amazing. So was Jordan, Malone, and Barkley. Magic and Bird were phenomenal... but nobody has the physical presence that LBJ does. And nobody makes it look so easy... nobody. Congrats on your second MVP Bron... now lets get that chip for Cleveland so you can come over to NYC and make the Knickerbockers a contender again!!!

Kobe Passes "The Logo" As the Lakers Leading Scorer

Kobe Bryant is the man... no matter how you feel about him as a peson, no matter how many other players in the league you think are better, it really doesn't matter. Kobe is a God on the basketball court. On Monday night Kobe scored 44 points on his way to breaking Jerry "The Logo" West's team record of 25, 192 points. Kobe passed Mr. West with a breakaway dunk in the loss the other night to Memphis. Knowing the kind of competitor Kobe is, he would have gladly traded the scoring mark for a win the other night.

Most people can not believe that Kobe has set the scoring mark for such a storied franchise. The Lakers have had many talented players throughout the years. Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Baylor, O'Neal, West and Perkins are just a few names you would expect at the top of that list. And before people make an excuse that Kobe scored the points over a longer career, you should check the facts. Kobe is in his 14th season, the EXACT same amount that West played in during his hall of fame career. Not only that, but Kobe came into the league at 17. His first few years he was a second option on offense to Shaq, at best. This makes the scoring record that much more impressive. Congrats Black Mamba... your the best to ever do it in Laker Town!!!!

NBA All Star Reserves Named: Who Made The Cut?

The NBA announced its All Star Reserves last night, and fans in NY are about as happy as they used to be when MJ and the Bulls used to come to the Garden. David Lee, one of the lone bright spots for the lowly Knicks, was snubbed by the coaches selection committee. The list of guys who made the team are as follows:

West-
Deron Williams- Jazz
Brandon Roy- Blazers
Kevin Durant- Thunder
Dirk Nowitski- Mavs
Chris Paul- Hornets
Zach Randolph- Grizzlies

The Lee snub seems to be a re-occurring event, as this time last year Lee also was left off the team. The Knicks constant under achieving and the teams strategy of keeping shitty players on their roster to lower payroll and score a high profile free agent (Lebron, Wade, Bosh) may have lead the coaches to chose Horford, who averages less points and boards then Lee. Nowitski will be playing on his home court (technically up the street at Cowboy Stadium) and will probably put on a show. Even though Ze German is not starting, he is my pick for MVP... The All Star Game airs Sunday Feb. 14, 2010 on TNT.
