The X Games: The Takeover Trailer

The X Games are no longer small potatoes... these alternative 'Olympics' have probably eclipsed the traditional Olympics in terms of youth viewers and its appeal is far reaching. That leads ESPN, the host channel, to spend a boatload of cash on the promotion for the event every year. This years Summer X Games have a very cool TV spot airing called 'The Takeover' which features some cool animation and the athletes (dirt bikers, skateboarders, etc) doing their thing. It is pretty awesome. A dope commercial for a dope event. Check out the full video after the jump....

One Of The Greatest Speeches In History...

Jim "Jimmy V" Valvano was a hell of a college basketball coach who was an unfortunate victim of cancer. He started a wonderful charity about 8 weeks before he died in conjunction with ESPN called "The Jimmy V Foundation" to work towards a cure for cancer. He won the Arthur Ashe Courage & Humatarian Award at the first ever ESPN Espy Awards in 1993, and he announced the formation of this charity and gave what has gone on to be known "The Speech", which in my opinion is one of the greatest of all time. This week is Jimmy V Week, and they need your help to raise money to fight cancer. This is the season for giving, and this is truly one of the greatest organizations a person that wants to contribute funds to fight such a deadly disease can give to. 100% of the money donated goes to cancer research, as all commercial expenses of the foundation are paid for by ESPN. I lost my beautiful sister Oona 8 & 1/2 years ago to this terrible disease, and I miss her everyday. ESPN The Magazines Movie Spectacular Issue Looks Awesome....

I know what your probably thinking... isn't ESPN a sports company? Yes, yes it is. Sooooo, isn't ESPN the Magazine a sports magazine? Why yes it is.... So what the fuck does the above headline mean? Well, these athletes that fill up the mags pages are people just like you and me, and so they love movies just like you and me. So ESPN has decided to put together an assorted crew of sports superstars to recreate prominent scenes from their favorite movies. You got members of the Cincinatti Bengals re-enacting the elevator scene from The Hangover, you got Danica Patrick playng Veronica Corningstone from Anchorman... these are great!!! The awards show is an excellent marriage of celebrities and sports, and honors the best performances on fields over the past year. Before News Team 4, Ron Burgundy Auditions For Sportscenter

Anchorman is one of my favorite Will Ferrell movies, and the reason why this one stands out amongst his other classics is because of his portrayal of stereotypical 70's newscaster Ron Burgundy. Burgundy always talks like he is on camera, even when he is far from the studios set. His deadpan delivery and funny anecdotes are some of the best lines of the movie. I was watching SportsNation on ESPN the other day, and they aired this clip of Ron Burgundy auditioning for an anchor position at the newly formed ESPN back in August of 1979. He starts of on track, but things slowly spiral out of control... This is for all the Will Ferrell fans who don't watch ESPN and therefore would never be exposed to this gem of a commercial. Enjoy!!!
