'Red Hook Summer' - Spike Lee Comes Back To NYC!!!!

It's Summer in the NYC... so what better way to celebrate than another Spike Lee Joint? Spike is heading back to the Big Apple with Red Hook Summer, a film that has built up a lot of buzz coming off it's premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. It has been trimmed down a bit (from 132 min to 121 minutes), but it seems as if Lee is heading back to his early types of films with this one. Being the huge fan that I am of hits like Do The Right Thing, Jungle Fever, 25th Hour & Crooklyn, I am really excited to see my man Spike back in the NY groove. Enjoy the trailer after the jump... and support independant filmmakers and NYC films!!!

OHC of the Day: TV Carpio

With a name like TV, its no wonder that Miss Carpio would strive to become famous. It also helps when your mom is a huge singing sensation in Hong Kong and your pops owns a huge textile company. With parents like those you are free to explore some options with your career... and that's just what young Teresa Victoria (TV.... get it?) did. She made some small television appearances on Law & Order, and had a small role in Spike Lee's She Hate Me. She also had a run on Broadway in the play Rent. Then her life changed for the best. She was cast in the all Beatles musical movie Across The Universe, and she played a character by the name of Prudence alongside stars Jim Sturgess & Evan Rachel Wood. She sang a wonderful rendition of I Want To Hold Your Hand (see the video below!!!). That role would open up one of the biggest opportunities of TV's career. The director of the Academy & Golden Globe nominated film, Julie Taymor, would ambitiously (and some would say insanely) develop Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark with collaborators Bono & The Edge of U2. The Broadway musical is the most expensive stage show EVER (over 65 mil!!!) and is experiencing quite a few ups and downs as it tries to gain its footing for a 2010 holiday opening. Carpio plays one of the many villains in the play, Miss Arrow. Whether or not the play is a success is going to be one of the seasons greatest questions, but either way TV's career is on the upswing. Besides her commitment to Turn Off The Dark, you can catch her alongside Robert DeNiro & Bradley Cooper in  Neil Burger's next film Limitless, in which she shares some steamy moments with the heartthrob from The Hangover. Who said that to much TV was bad for you??? With high profile performances like these, she won't be an Obscure Hot Chick for very long!!!

Is Brooklyn In The House... Without A Doubt!!!

Absolut has long been head of the pack when it comes to advertising campaigns. Even though the popularity of the vodka has waned since its heydays in the 80's in favor of Grey Goose and Kettle One, they still have the most creative advertising in the whole liquor industry. Frequently incorporating the silouette of their bottle into the campaign (see pic to your left), their ads are often very memorable and subliminal. I still actually perfer Absolut to Goose or Kettle, simply because when I started drinking vodka back in the early 90's Absolut was the top shelpf brand. Most people criticize Absolut for its quality, but it is a world class vodka and most of the preconcieved ideas about its lack of quality are in peoples heads. It is still great... and its cheaper than all these fancy-smancy high priced dick vodkas.

The newest product that Absolut is offering is the "City Editons" line of vodkas. Each city edition has a new mix of ingredients and flavors that correspond to its particular city and a specially designed bottle by someone associated with the city. Boston, LA, New Orleans... they have all gotten their own editions. Now comes NY... and they knocked it out of the park!!! Legendary film producer and Brooklynite Spike Lee designed the bottle, which is a replica of his Cobble Hill brownstone. They couldn't have chosen a better embodiement of Brooklyn... and the taste??? Great. Simply Great. Its a mix of Red Apple and Ginger, and it reminds me of NY when I sip it I think about fall in my hometown city. Nice job Absolut... keep up the good work. Love the Brooklyn Bridge ad as well. Go get your drink on....
