Blurred Lines: The Kindergarten Edition

Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke ft Pharrell & T.I. has got to be the biggest song of the summer... hands down it is the most played, Couple a dope beat, great singing, a fire 16 bar rap, and an unedited music video featuring topless models has propelled the song to stratospheric proportions. Even though I have heard the song a billion times over the last 3 months, I have to admit that after seeing the following clip from the Jimmy Fallon show that this is the coolest version so far. Fallon enlists the help of his house band, The Roots, and Robin Thicke himself to perform Blurred Lines... but they did it with kindergarten instruments! This isn't the first time we have seen this (Fallon duets with Carly Rae Jepsen & Mariah Carey), but there is something about this one that makes it stand out... and it features a new 16 bar rap from Black Thought! Jimmy Fallon, The Roots & Mariah Carey Perform 'All I Want For Christmas' With Kindergarten Instruments... And Kindergartners!!!!

I may not watch Jimmy Fallon's late night show all that often, but I certainly think that the SNL alum has found a certain niche with his quirky musical performances. He has The Roots, the hardest working band in show business, at his disposal. So why not use them as creatively as possible? Fallon taps the gang to utilize kindergarten musical instruments (kazoos, mini xylophone, triangles, etc) and gets the queen of the Christmas song Mariah herself to perform a rendition of her classic 'All I Want For Christmas', and boy is it fantastic. And the four kindergarten kids singing back up... yeah, that is the icing on the cake! Gotta love the creativity. Keep em coming Jimmy!!!! Catch the video after the jump...

Just Another Reason Why 'The Roots' Are One Of The Best Bands In The Business

While The Roots are known as being hip hop giants and pioneers for their integration of live instrumentation, most people do not realize just how musically talented these guys are. They are often called "The hardest working band in show business", and they proved their musical merits to me the other day in a very unconventional way. They are the live band on Jimmy Fallon's talk show every night, and the other day the musical guest was Carly Rae Jepsen. She sings that catchy "Call Me, Maybe" song and is quite cute... but I digress. Before they filmed the show, the Roots joined Fallon & Jepsen in the green room for an impromptu rendition of "Call me, Maybe"... but they played the song with an assortment of kindergarten school instruments!!! They absolutely killed it, and it is great to see such a group of serious musicians having so much fun incorporating kazoos, a small xylophone and tambourines into a pop recreation. Panthro Hits The Late Night Circuit

I know this clip is from last week, but it got lost in my inbox and I never watched it till this morning. Say what you want about Jimmy Fallon, but he is a true 80s baby and always reps for my age bracket with things that call back to our childhood. Here he features the black Thundercat Panthro singing the Thundercats theme as a lounge singer, accompanied by The Roots & two hottie dancers. Pretty good makeup and funny stuff. Enjoy... 

Some Great New Music To End Your Summer On...

The summer is rapidly approaching an end, and I thought I should hit you with a few new songs that will be sure to take us into the Fall season. My musical taste can be a bit fickle at times, but I would love to here your comments on the next few songs... so make sure you add some comments below.

First up, we got multi-Grammy award winner John Legend checking in off of his new team up album with the hardest working band in show business, The Roots. They get an assist from the lovely voiced Melanie Fiona and the always on point Common in this re-imagining of the Marvin Gaye classic "Wake Up Everybody", which is one of my all time favorite songs... ever. This is sure to be a dope album, so be on the lookout for it.



Next up, we got a follow up to his summer smash "Airplanes" from new artist B.O.B. and this time he gets a bit of chorus help from Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. You might recognize this one from the new Adidas commercial "Mega Diner" which we featured in Commercially Acclaimed a few weeks back. B.O.B is a great new artist coming out of the ATL, so you will be hearing plenty of this catchy tune in the next few weeks.



Third up, we got the latest single from Usher's new album "Versus", Hot Toddy ft. Jay-Z and Esther Dean. this song has been buzzing for a bit now, but it is just now starting to get some radio airplay and I am sure a video is soon to follow.  Last up, we got the first single off of Kid Cudi's new album called "Erase Me" and this one features a guest verse from the always controversial Kanye West. This is a banger for sure, and I am really looking forward to Cudi's sophmore album. Lets hope this is just the start of something great.
