Just More Proof On Exactly Why Zack Snyder Is One Of My Favorite People In Film And Why Joel Silver Sucks Ass...

Zack Snyder has been on my radar since I walked into the theater and plopped down my cash in the hopes of a mildly entertaining remake of George Romero's classic film Dawn of the Dead. Not only did I get that... I got way more! It was perfectly cast and extremely well shot, and basically started the whole 'zombies can move fast' sub genre. He followed that up with 300, which so blurred the lines of the 'Comics to Film' genre that at times during the movie I literally felt as if I was reading Frank Miller's classic comic panel for panel up on the big screen. After that, the kid could do no wrong in my eyes. Then it was announced that he would be heading up the big screen adaption of Watchmen. The Internet almost imploded in on its self, as an adaption of Watchmen had been kicked around for years and had names like Terry Gilliam as director and Joel Silver as a producer attached at various points. They were going to give this grail of a franchise to a nubie with two films under his belt? This seemed like a possible problem in the making. But to be honest, I was confident everything would work out A-OK. In my opinion I was more than correct...

Terry Gilliam Is Back With 'The Zero Theorem'... Finally!!!

Terry Gilliam is one of my favorite film directors of all time, and I think there is a specific reason for that. He is very selective over the projects that he chooses to undertake... and has even undertook a handful of projects and worked on them for multiple years before abandoning them before completion. He is very whimsical and high strung... like my true favorite director, Stanley Kubrick. He also tends to take a very LONG time to complete a film. His last movie was The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, which came out in 2009 and took over 2 years to complete. Gilliam overcame the death of Heath Ledger in a very creative fashion in that movie, and the results were stellar. Looking back at his career, there are not many of his films that I dislike. 12 Monkeys, Time Bandits, Brazil, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas... the list goes on and on. He also tends to get extreme A list actors to go very weird with their performances. Think Brad Pitt in 12 Monkeys, DeNiro in Brazil, or the legendary Christopher Plummer in Dr. Parnassus. So I am really intrigued to see what comes from his latest project, The Zero Theorem. Christoph Waltz, french film fatale Melanie Thierry, Matt Damon, Tilda Swinton and Dave Tewlis are all involved... an eclectic cast once again. This one looks a lot of fun, and anything that Waltz does seems to be great (shit, he even made The Green Hornet watchable). The film is debuting in the Uk on March 14th, and will follow in the US sometime this spring. I for one will be checking it out. Thanks to Grif Hartter for the tip! Fringe Does Terry Gilliam Tribute

In an homage to the great Terry Gilliam and the animation he would provide between skits on Monty Python's Flying Circus, Fringe presented a similar clip, looking inside the mind of Walter as he tries to recover a secret password. I should also mention that Walter was high on acid at the time. Damn I am gonna miss this show when it's gone.

Terry Gilliam's "The Legend of Hallowdega" Short Film Is Here....

This Halloween, in celebration of the AMP Energy Juice 500 at Talladega on Oct. 31st, the world will learn the “truth”. This original short film, presented by AMP Energy Juice, is directed by Terry Gilliam and stars David Arquette & Justin Kirk, with special appearances by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Darrell Waltrip and many more.

This sounds great. I was given a flyer for this a few weeks back at the 2010 NYC Comic Con, but we had so much swag and promo materials it must have got lost in the shuffle. But here it is, and its pretty cool. I like these types of cross promotional events.... Nascar and Amp Energy Drink benefit, and we all get some more film from Terry Gilliam. I for one can never have to much of that!!! not to mention that David Arquette is as quirky (and awesome!!!) as ever and we get to see brother-in-law Andy from Weeds (Justin Kirk) doing something other then chase Mary-Louise Parker around in circles. Tell me what you think in the comment section below!
