New York Comic Con - 2013 - HERE WE COME!!!!!!

Today is the day it all changes for us... today is the day we enter the other side of the battle lines!!!! After covering the NY Comic Con for the last 4 years as members of the press for this here blog we are now about to enter the fray as vendors as well... CCD has partnered with good friends and talented artists Tommy Lombardozzi & Father/Son team of Sean and Griffin Hartter to bring you some of the coolest art you have ever seen!!!!

Horror Costumes + Conventions = Halloween Cosplay Gold !!!

Yup, it is about that time... NY Comic Con is right around the corner! We are super excited here at CCD to be part of both sides of the proceeds, covering the event with our press passes and having a booth of our very own selling Tommy Lombardozzi's & Sean/Griffin Hartter's art. But if there is a major convention around the corner, that means there must be cosplay being planned. With NY Comic Cons closeness to Halloween, it is only natural that I expect to see some really great horror costumes. So in preparation I decided to search the web for some great past horror cosplay to kind of get me in the mood. I found some great stuff, especially all the zombified & monster style superhero costumes that are becoming more prevalent. These are fantastic... I hope to see much more like these in the future. It's Official - CCD Blog Presents: Tommy Lombardozzi & The Hartter Family at The 2013 New York Comic Con!!!!

So any followers of our little blog know that over the past three years we have been given the honor of covering the New York Comic Con via press passes. These passes give us access to the show and allow us to do some really cool interviews (like this, this and this). We are gearing up for year 4 of Comic Con coverage, and this year looks to be the biggest one yet! But this year we are foraying into another venture at the show... and boy is it exciting. We are teaming up with fellow CCD contributor and artist extraordinaire Tommy Lombardozzi and the son of late artistic genius Sean Hartter (R.I.P. Brother) Griffin to have our own table in Artists Alley!!! Yup, pass by booth # Z - 18 and come enjoy the artistic stylings of Tommy, Sean and Griff... and who knows, maybe you will even take home something for your own collection that the boys have for sale. This is a new and exciting experience for us, so please come through and support the fellas if you happen to be in the building for the show. The Unholy Three: Tommy Lombardozzi Takes On Blue Devil, Son of Satan & Nightcrawler!!!!

A few weeks back my buddy Tommy Lombardozzi posted a thread on Facebook asking for some help. He had been having some trouble finding inspiration on new subjects to draw, so he figured he would turn to his eclectic friends list to solicit some suggestions. He asked us to come up with characters we would like to see him draw, but asked us to dig deeper other than the mainstream characters like Iron Man & Cap. In no time flat he was getting all types of weird and wild requests... and I got in on the fun as well. As usual, Tommy didn't take the easy choices... he decided to play with some of the really obscure characters that were lobbed at him. His three choices were as follows: DC Comics Blue Devil (my choice, and always one of my 80s faves!), Marvel's Son of Satan, and X-Men mainstay Nightcrawler. Now I know Nightcrawler is not exactly obscure, but Tommy had never really drew him and he is definitely not the first thing that pops in someones head when they here X-Men. So he fit in the mix. The results are quite amazing. Tommy decided to use markers & spray paint to create his masterpieces, and he created them on comic book backing boards!!!! What a great idea for drawing your favorite comic characters.... the backing boards that keep their sacred homes on the pages of comics safe. Tommy is planning to do many more of these Comic Book Backing Board Series illustrations for our table at the 2013 NY Comic Con, so keep a look out here on CCD for some previews. Welcome Back CCD!!!!

Hey gang... whats up? July has been one crazy month in the world of Mike D. That is why things haven't been so popping over here on CCD. I have to be honest, it was a combination of a few different things. First and foremost, I was busy... mostly because I was getting married! Yup, Mrs. CCD has finally allowed me to become an honest man. So between the wedding on July 12th and the 10 day honeymoon adventure that followed, my July was a whirlwind but, leading up to the wedding I have to be honest... I lost the urge to blog. I wasn't interested in making any posts. I also haven't been reading any of my normal sites. I haven't logged into my Feedly account in weeks. And anyone that knows me knows that this is not like me... I was just drained. But after coming back from my honeymoon, I am a newly energized man. Maybe its my lovely wife, or maybe it was the time away... I am not really sure. But the next few months are looking bright for CCD, and boy am I excited. We are going to NY Comic Con this year... yup, big deal right? We have been covering it for years. But this year is gonna be special. We are getting a table to hawk the art of the dearly departed Sean Hartter as well as CCD alum Tommy Lombardozzi. Seanie was a pal, and this was to be our first collaboration together. Unfortunately, we lost him. But now we are forging forward, and we are happy to welcome Sean's son Griffin to NYC in order to bring his Dad's work to the world. It is gonna be huge for us. And this is the year when my man Tommy finally gets his art out there for everyone to see... and I can't wait cause his art is so fantastic. And today I sat down to my laptop and I WANTED to blog for the first time in quite a bit. The urge was back... thank goodness. Yup, the future is so bright for CCD we gonna need some shades... so keep coming back 'cause this year is the year we bring CCD to the world!!!!

Nightbreed by Sean Hartter

I have posted about one of my favorite 90s horror movies, Nightbreed, a shit ton of times here on CCD. I mean alot... like here, here and here. So when I saw that my man Sean Hartter created a Japanese version of a Nightbreed poster, I flipped my shit. But what I think has to be the coolest part of the poster is that he managed to get a ton of the Midian monsters up in there as well as Dr. Dekker, who is probably the creepiest killer in the history of film that no one has heard of. Another excellent poster from Hartter... and now I gotta buy another one from him!!!! Can't wait to see this one on sale at our booth this October during NY Comic Con!!! Sean Hartter Has An Art Book Coming Soon... And We Are Going To Be A Part Of It!!!!

One of the coolest things about having this blog over the last few years has to be all the unique and interesting people I have interacted with due to the site itself. People who live half a world away (my Canadian brother Cal from The Cave of Cool), right near by (my main man Johnny from Freddy In Space), and people you get a chance to develop a working relationship. The latter is definitely the case when it comes to the comparable Sean Hartter, artist extraordinaire and someone who has developed into a close friend via our two blogs. I have kept in touch with Sean over the past few years, posting a ton of his work here on CCD. Sean has also been a huge help in promoting our site and even creating a few original posters for us alone, like our very own VHS box art & his special edition The Omen poster that was exclusive for CCD in his 31 Days of Halloween poster series. Now, in his latest post, Sean has revealed the cover for his upcoming art book and also confirmed that he will be collaborating with CCD for a booth at the 2013 NYC Comic Con! I for one am super excited for that weekend, and now we will have this boss ass art book to sell alongside his incredible prints. The CCD booth at Comic Con is gonna be pretty epic. Lots of great artists and friends will be involved. But truth be told, I am most excited to finally team up with my buddy Sean. If this art book is half as cool as this kick ass cover than we are in for a treat.
