31 In 31: Day 7 - All The Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006)

This year to celebrate the Halloween month I have decided to watch 31 Horror Movies that I have never seen before in 31 Days... 31 in 31. I love Horror Films, but instead of watching the standard classics and usual fan favorites (trust me... I will watch many of them TOO!) I am going to venture out into some uncharted territory with my selections. Wish me luck....

Day 7 - All The Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006)

Title: All The Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006)
Director: Johnathan Levine
Starring: Amber Heard, Anson Mount
My Review:

I for one can't figure out what took so long for this movie to come out... made in 2006, most people who have seen it didn't do so until 2011-2012ish. That is just nuts, as this movie is pretty great. A combination John Hughes teen movie/Friday the 13th slasher hybrid, this movie works on many different levels. The story of the unassuming teenage girl who comes into her body and is all of the sudden on the boys radar has been done many times before.... but with the elements of murder and revenge that are present in this one it stands out among the pack. Amber Heard sparkles as Mandy. She is perfect, just reserved enough and packing a raw beauty that makes the boys infatuation with her totally understandable. The Texas ranch setting (a la Tobe Hooper) makes for an interesting place to set a story of teenage misadventure, but it works very well here. Levine is known for his comedic work alongside Seth Rogen (50/50, The Night Before) and really shows well in a genre not very familiar to him. This movie deserved better upon release, but now that people are beginning to hear about it none of that matters. Watch this movie... its wonderful!

My Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars
