Cultural Compulsive Disorder: LEGO Iconic Vol #11 by Jeff Bond

I am such a huge Lego nerd that words can not explain. Soooo I've decided to use my favorite blog site CCD.com as an outlet to get some of this stuff that I see every day, built out of bricks, out of my skull and onto the blogosphere where it can't hurt my cerebral cortex. Each month I'll be posting the best of the best hoping to inspire the Lego maniac in each of you...young and old. Enjoy!

Getting things started off this week is Legohaulic who hustled this month to create a ton of Lego iconery (spellcheck says that's not a word! F you spellcheck!)

'TV Show Mashup' is a mutli-generational geek's dream pairing the comedic duo from 'Gilligan's Island' with the island landscape of 'Lost'. Looks like 'The Skipper' and his 'Little Buddy' just stumbled upon the hatch that poses a question which poses another question ....and another question...and another. For their sake, I hope it's just Ginger down there slipping into something more comfortable. Loving the small dome shaped piece used to create the Skipper's jolly belly.

'Atlantean Warrior' is another piece dreamt up by Legohaulic, with what appears to be quite a few 'Lego Bionicle' pieces used in a not-so-orthodox way to create the armor of an undersea gladiator. I'm not sure where those fin pieces originate from but I MUST get my hands on some. You know...for voyages to the bottom of the sea!

I'm sure Theodore Geisel, himself, would be very proud to have inspired such a piece from Legohaulic. 'A.B.S. Snorter & His Lego Brick Sorter' imagines one of Dr. Seuss' vehicles down to the multi-extended robotic hands and cartoon gloves. Here's those posable fingers and hands I pointed out in my last installment, put to use in a wubbulous way. Watch as the bricks get picked up here, vacuumed up there, and sorted in all different fantasmagorical ways! I dunno how he did it but 'haulic seems to have eliminated most traces of brick-top to display a clean, cartoon like surface on everything in the piece...except for the sorted bricks that it!

Perhaps inspired by his own 'Little Red Riding Hood' piece from a few months ago, next Legohaulic tackled the creepy-crawly, 8-legged, arachnid from 'Little Miss Muffet'. She'd do well to do a bit more than sit on her tuffet this time and it seems that she already has. This little miss is packing heat! Note the oddly shaped budding roses which look to be created from Lego antenna bases. Nothing's frightening THIS Muffet away!

Here's an unorthodox bunch of inedible edibles. 'Out to Lunch' is a Lego slice of pizza with a side Lego salad....and just check out what's bubblin' up on the other side, a realistic looking can of Lego Coke! Just curious though, why not make a dish from Lego brick. That would probably would have been the easiest piece to recreate. Oh well....I'm starved...Lunchbreak!

Finally from Legohaulic this week, I can't say enough about 'Killing Time' other than, if this was a working clock, I'd love to peep this on my nightstand each morning when I've cracked my eyes open to a brand new day. Check out the realistic blood dripping effect...mostly done in blood with, I figure, some quick touch-up paint detail. Time ISN'T on this timkeepers side.

Pedro Vezini is doing quite a few fun things with Lego Star Wars Minifigs. These two recent ones were my favorite. 'From Dagobah to Tatooine' invokes the Mexican overtones of 'From Dusk 'Til Dawn' in my head...and that's never a bad thing. Master Yoda is looking badd-ass in his pancho, sombrero and rockin' a maraca. This one really inspires me to bust out pencil and sketch pad and recreate some of the Star Wars cast with a Mexican flare. (And I have!)

...and it looks as if Han Solo has caught a nasty case of the the chills while frozen in carbonite, or his rescuers were just a half a decade too late in thawing him out. Either way...he seems to be battling a bit more than temporary blindness in this one.

In the last piece I yanked from Vezini's Flickr page, Yoda's laying down the beats for some crazy-legged X-Wing pilot to break it down too. Can't imagine that his backward speak would translate well in rap form.

Lukas Sogor has created something Sci-Fi industrialistic with his creation of the Lego Logo (say that 20 times fast!) with the feel of a Star Wars spafecraft hull. I included a photo ot the 'E" up close to get a feel for the texture and the base stand but, click on the link above to get a closer look at each. These would look great on a mantle surrounded by all my Star Wars Lego vehicles and Minifigs...don'tchya think?

Carter Baldwin created this awesome military bird and NATO force accompaniment. I love the stylized bend in the cockpit neck and the working landing gear detail is impeccable. The troops behind this nightbird seem to be concocted with bits of Samurai pauldron and padding for an Asian inspired detail. Thanks once again to The Brothers Brick for the find!

'NATO F-83 Seraphim'

M-I-C...K-E-Y...M-O-U-S-E! Mr. Mike D forwarded me this Disney classic homage from 'Lego Iconic' regular Poly Wren of Mickey in all his Lego glory. This ones a nearly perfect display piece any true Disney fan would be proud of!

And SlyOwl has this homage to the stage play 'Les Miserables' in his piece entitled 'Back at the Barricade'. I've included some of the best real photos I could find to spotlight how perfect this Lego rendition truly is! I love the stone street and, what appears to be, Lego Scuba diver flippers rounding the window-tops as arched cement brick. Sly is "Master of the house" with this one!

Did you ever see such a sight in your life? 'SlyOwl' also gave us this beauty showcases the fabled '3 Blind Mice'. Cutting off their tales with a carver's knife and all that jazz. Fun!

Brixie63 is doing some great recreations of iconic album covers...out of Lego brick of course..why else would I spotlight them here? Check out these 2 musical melodies of brick and bass! I've included the original album art from each so that you can compare.

ShoBrick doesn't just show bricks...he creates Lego worlds with his pieces and photography. These few are NO exception!

First up, in 'Changing History' Sho wonders what might happen if Vader made it back outdoors in icy Hoth to Force-pull the 'Millenium Falcon' back to the ground before it's triumphant escape.

......than in 'Paranormal Gunslinger' Shobrick shows some Wild West/Sci Fi trickery that seems to be pulled from the screen of this Summer's sure-to-be blockbuster hit 'Cowboys & Aliens'

Finally, in his 'Jungle' piece, Sho has some neat camouflaged Minifigs trekking through just that. He's included a video clip so that you can get a closer grasp on the detail.
