Andy Fairhurst Wants To Show You A Galaxy Far, Far Away... And Feature The Best Characters Of Each Film Of The Trilogy!!!

Mock up versions of movie posters are pretty common... shit, 3/4 of ALL Internet content consists of fake movie posters and cat captioned photos (I see you Cal... I see you!). And the most oft posterized film seems to be the original trilogy, the only trilogy.... Star Wars. It is an amazing set of films, and a touchstone for multiple generations of people, it makes sense that it is the one picked the most. But they usually tend to skew towards pedestrian. Not Andy Fairhurst, UK artist extraordinaire. He decides to go minimalist, but in a very cool way. He takes certain vehicles from each film and makes them the focal points of the posters, but he also subtly inserts the coolest characters of each film embedded into the whole background of the poster. The result is amazing. Upon a deeper review of Andy's website you find even more cool posters for classics like Jaws, Back To The Future and Rocky... as well as new movies such as Batman v Superman & Transformers. Comic Book Quote Posters by G3N3S1S Studios

Reddit has be finding us some gold lately, most of it coming courtesy of my main man Joe Fletch and his obsessive surfing of the 'Net. Thank you sir. Anywho, G3N3S1S Studios is responsible for creating these awesome minimalist quote posters featuring some of the most popular characters in comic books, and boy are they pretty terrific. They mind all types of books and movies for the quotes, from classics like The Dark Knight Returns and more recent books like Batman & Robin. They quote the big guns like Bats, Cap & Wonder Woman... and also minor characters like Booster Gold, Cyborg, and Batgirl. These are just fantastic. Minimalist Disney Attraction Posters

Disney gets it. They totally understand marketing and have for years. Maybe that is just a small reason on why the company has been so epically successful in getting customers in the doors. But the coolest part about the company is that they are totally open to exploring different aspects of marketing... especially when it comes concocting posters to promote their attractions. Check out these minimalist posters (which are all the rage) that appear over at the Disney & More blogspot page. They really capture the essence of the classic Disney rides and put a fresh spin on these old faithful rides. It is good to see that Disney is consistently trying to look for new ways to market their products, even though the rep that they have now is probably big enough just to coast on. The Movies Of Stanley Kubrick

Of all of these, my favorites are Dr. Strangelove and the first half of Full Metal Jacket.  I have to admit that I have never seen The Shining and got through about ten minutes of Eyes Wide Shut. Clockwork Orange freaks the hell out of me still but so did the novel it's based on. Barry Lyndon did nothing for me because I always have hated Ryan O'Neil. 2001? I hate to say I needed to see 2010 to fully get what was going on which made A Space Odyssey so much more enjoyable to watch the second or third time around.

JLA Quote Posters

I found these bad boys over at Cal's Canadian Cave of Cool, and boy are they fantastic. They take some of the best members of the Justice League of America and uses some key quotes from the characters history. Most of the quotes come from the comics (the issue #'s are cited... cool), but Batman's comes from The Dark Knight Rises. These are great posters. Love the abstract nature of them, and the quotes are perfectly fitting for each. Check 'em all out after the jump...

50 Years of Minimalist Avengers Members by Michael Mateyko

The Avengers have been around for a long ass time... officially 50 years this coming September. But one of the coolest parts of the team has to be the vast amount of members they have had over the years. Sure, there is always some aspect of the original team members in ever incarnation of the team throughout the years (click here for the complete list over the years... usually at least one of the Cap, Thor, Iron Man triumvirate is always present as a leader)... but it is the obscure and interesting members that always appealed to me and made the book one of my most cherished comic titles ever. Members like The Black Knight, Hercules, Vision, Wonder Man, and Moon Knight are some of my personal faves. So when artist Michael Mateyko decided to use the teams multiple members for inspiration for his 2013 Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo poster, I immediately cracked a nostalgic smile and couldn't wait to share it with you guys. The best part is that this poster is for sale, and it can be ordered in a plethora of sizes! You can go from 8 x 10 to huge ass poster size, and in my opinion the bigger the better, Check out the poster after the jump...

My Neighbor Totoro by Masse Hjetman

Wow, I love it when doing CCD brings cool new artists to my attention. As anyone who has a twitter account knows, every once and a blue you get an email saying you have a new follower. More often than not (at least on my end) it is some sort of spammer, but yesterday I got hit up by a Swedish graphic artist by the name of Masse Hjetman. I clicked the link to his page and came across some great minimalistic style movie posters... there were some popular movies (Titanic, Fight Club, Star Wars) & some others not so popular (High Fidelity, Almost Famous)... but it was his most obscure piece that I loved the most. His design for the Japanese animated film My Neighbor Totoro is excellent!!!! Totoro is one of my favorite animated films from my childhood (Hayao Miyazaki FTW!!! )and brings back great memories for me, as it was one of the first foreign films I seen and lead to my love of international cinema (Akira was a big part of that as well). 50 Years Of James Bond by Matt Needle

Minimalist art is a talent that not many people can pull off completely. Conveying the full meaning of a poster with just basic images and hardly no words is a challenge, yet when it is done successfully it comes off as beautiful to look at. Matt Needle is one of these artists that knows how to balance the obscure with the understandable. Case in point: His 50th anniversary poster in celebration of James Bond. Needle takes iconic images of all the Bond films and includes them in a collage that is reinforced with the names of the six actors who have portrayed Bond and the titles of the films. I also love the color choice, using gold to signify the 50th anniversary. Well done. Check out the full version after the jump...

Lego Characters by Jung Von Matt

I came across these cool minimalist recreations of animated/children characters composed of Lego bricks by artist Jung Von Matt over at SuperPunch. I thought that the simpleness of them was very cool, and that they are easily identifiable despite the fact that they lack detail. Adam James Takes On The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings Saga With Great Success

Lots of artists take the time to re-design movie posters for classic films. This is nothing new, especially on the Internet. But when an artist knocks out a killer minimalistic take on something as epic as Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy and the throws in a Hobbit poster just for good measure... well, they should be commended. The Star Wars Film Series Gets A Minimalistic Makeover by Travis English

Love them or hate them, the Star Wars prequels will not being going anywhere anytime soon. So any artist that is going to recreate posters on the whole film series needs to really bring it when tackling the newest of the 6 films. Artist Travis English does just that, and all of these beautifully minimalistic poster are stunning in their own right. Bloops Takes On The Justice League, Minimalistic Style

I have been featuring more and more artists who have taken to expressing themselves in the minimalist format for some reason. I'm not exactly sure why, but i think it has something to do with the simplistic nature of the designs that go into a minimalistic take on something. While someone might think that since the designs are simple then they must be easy to create, if you see truly good minimalistic art then you know that this is not the case at all. While they may be simple, the artist must capture distinct details of the subject matter in order for the pieces to work. Case in point: Check out artist Bloops take on the Justice League of America. Risa Rodil Minimizes The Hunger Games

Artist Risa Rodil is spectacular at creating interesting & complex images... yet the ones that I chose to highlight are some of the simplest out of all of them. I am a huge fan of minimalist takes on pop culture properties, so why not see what Rodil has to say about Suzanne Collins's Hunger Game Trilogy? All three of these capture key moments from each book without revealing anything too important. The History Of The WWF Championship In A Minimalist Poster

This poster is part of a project by the very talented Shahed Syed, an architect in training who specializes in 3-D images and infographics. He compiled an amazing infographic on the history of the WWF Championship between the years 1984-2002 (click here to see it) that is superimposed over a heavyweight belt. It is awesome. Reservoir Dogs Revisited: 3 Minimalist Posters

'Reservoir Dogs' recently hit Netflix Instant Streaming and I just had to watch it. The film has always held a very special place in my heart... I saw it right after 'Pulp Fiction' came out and I have been a die hard Tarantino fan ever since. It's hard not to love the hard boiled crime noir styling of Buscemi, Madsen, Roth and Keitel... these guys are just masters of their craft. After watching it the other day, I jumped over to Deviant Art to see if I could find some cool Dogs art to feature on CCD. I promise you, these 3 posters will not disappoint.
