Denis Medri Takes The JLA Back To The Wild, Wild West

We have featured many artists here on CCD over the last few years, and it is always nice to come across one a bit down the road still doing great work. Denis Medri was featured here on CCD last August for his Star Wars High sketches, and now he is back with his take on the JLA. Medri decided to take these DC Comic mainstays on a trip down the ole trail, as he has re-imagined them in a style of the Old West. I like the distinct western characteristics he gave each of the original seven (plus Green Arrow), but I have to say that Martian Manhunter's mustache and Aquaman's spear are two of my favorite details. Injustice: Gods Among Us Combines The JLA With 1984

I always liked the stories where the superheroes are twisted into the authoritarian villains. They always start out with the best of intentions but in the end, being a hero is all about sacrifice, not control. I see things like this and I so wish I was a gamer who could totally get into the whole world and experience. With the footage they do have I wish someone could create a neat little computer generated feature of the story that is incorporated into the video game. Superman Is Such A Wise Ass...

The JLA: Wild West Style by Ted Brant

Amazing re-imagining of the JLA as a Wild West Posse by artist Ted Brandt. 

So This Is The New Justice League Of America, Huh??? Meh...

Here is DC's first look of the full Justice League of America team that will be featured in this falls shakeup of the DC universe. It was drawn by Jim Lee and I got it from one of my favorite comic book blogs, It's A Dan's World. Check em out:

They got the core 7 out in front, with one notable exception: Where the hell is Martian Manhunter and what the F is Cyborg from the Teen Titans doing there? I am a bit behind on my DC continuity (but catching up quickly!!!) but I can't see how they can have a incarnation of the JLA without Martian Manhunter.... that green son of a bitch is my man!!!! You can also see some of the supporting characters filling out the background. I love me some Hawkman!!! In my opinion the art is good, but nothing spectacular. I still don't get why DC is doing this whole reboot/re-imagining/alternate shuffling of their characters, but I guess time will tell. We shall see. What do you guys think about this team photo? R.I.P. Dwayne McDuffie by James West

It saddens me that just a short time after my Human Torch article, I have to write yet another memorial piece: this time about real-life creator, Dwayne McDuffie.

For those of you who don’t know, Mr. McDuffie was a voice against racial stereotyping in the industry. His creation of the Milestone Imprint in the 90’s was well-renowned for its racially diverse, but equally respectable cast members, including Static Shock. In later years, McDuffie worked as the head writer for Justice League Unlimited cartoon, stringing together the main Cadmus, Secret Society of Super Villains, and Darkseid Invasion plots. He also had a well-received run as the writer for the Justice League of America comic book itself. The cause of death is unknown, but he will be missed.
