This week we check out Albert Brooks and Dan Aykroyd in the opening scene from The Twilight Zone movie. This is one of the all time greatest opening scenes ever, and it scared the f'n shit outta me when I was a kid. I like this clip cause it also shows the start of the first scene after the credits, the one starring Vic Morrow. Morrow died on the set of this movie due to a mechanical accident, so this movie is bizarrely eerie even in real life. All in all a solid flick, with one of the best opening scenes ever. Look how young Aykroyd and Brooks are.... wow!!! Enjoy the clip, sorry for the subtitles...

Gran Apertura Vol#6- xXx
Gran Apertura means "Great Opening" in Italian. I felt it was an appropriate title for the new column I will be writing here at C-C-D. I love movies, but every once in a blue there is an opening segment in a movie that just sets the bar way to high for the rest of the flick. This opening scene is so good, it can't be topped by the rest of the movie itself. Or, sometimes the opening scene is part of an excellent film, and it does the job of getting you roped in. No matter what, the opening scene in a movie is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT scene in the whole film. So this column will highlight some of the greatest opening segments from the wide world of cinema. If you like what you see, maybe you will go ahead a check out the films in completion. Happy Viewings!!!
xXx - 2002 - Directed By: Rob Cohen Starring: Vin Diesel, Asia Argento, Samuel L. Jackson
Thats good enough for me. The opening scene has nothing to do with the characters we have discussed so far, but instead shows a random NSA agent recovering some sort of microchip, and then being chased by some Eastern European criminal types. He runs right into a Rammstein (the German death metal band) concert which is sick, filled with flames and a guy with a flame thrower face mask (that shit is sick). Next we meet sharpshooter Kirill, who pops our NSA doof as he crosses the dancefloor from the balcony. All in all, a great scene. Check it out. xXx is also available for Netflix Instant Streaming, so make it happen captain!!!

Pulp Fiction - 1994
One of my all time favorite movies, and the one that put one of my favorite directors, Quentin Tarantino, on the map. The opening scene is important, because in the non linear story line of the film, it all comes full circle back in the diner. I love this movie more then words can express. Enjoy this first scene, and if you never seen this movie... besides being ashamed of yourself, get to a video store!!!!

Blade - 1998
In my opinion, this is the movie that opened up Hollywood to the idea that comic books could work as movies. They took a very obscure character and made the movie fucking awesome... not to mention the fact that WEsley Snipes killed shit and they were about 10 years ahead of the whole vampire friendly curve that is ruling (some would say ruining...lol) Hollywood as we speak. Enjoy this opening scene... now thats how you fuck up some vampires, son!!!

Gran Apertura Volume #3

Super Troopers - 2001
I absolutely love this movie from the Broken Lizard crew. They have made some doozies, but this one is by far their best work. They get right to it in this opening scene, and the movie just keeps getting better and better. One of the best cop chase/pullover scenes ever, you can not possibly tell me this is not funny. Enjoy the clip... thanks for the videoYoutube!!!

This Weeks "Gran Apertura": The Way Of The Gun
This movie is a so-so kidnapping thriller, but the opening scene is one of the most shocking things you will ever watch in your whole life. We get introduced to crazy ass Ryan Phillipe and his friend Benicio Del Toro... and well lets just say they don't like it when girls run their mouths like dudes. This scene also stars Sarah Silverman long before she became a star with a hit TV show. Trust me, her mouth was pretty bad back then as well. After you watch this, tell me I'm wrong about just how great this scene is. Enjoy!!!
