Here Is A Good Reason To Get The Starz Package On Cable.... Magic City

Starz has some great original programming that most people have never heard of. Party Down was an amazing show, Spartacus: Blood In The Sand was filled with sex & violence, and they have a King Arthur-esque show coming up featuring a ton of hot British actors & actresses... and now we get this:

As Frank Sinatra rings in a new year in the grand ballroom of Miami Beach's most luxurious dream palace – the Miramar Hotel – its visionary leader, Ike Evans, must deal with the Mob, his complicated family and a city in the midst of dramatic change as Fidel Castro takes control of Cuba, just 200 miles offshore. By day the hotel at the center of "Magic City" is all diving clown acts and cha-cha lessons by the pool, but at night Miami Beach reveals a darker truth. Dopers, dealers, strippers, gangsters and those who arrest them drift together to hear the top nightclub acts perform. Just beneath the surface, racial tensions stir. Ike must deal with all of this, even while global intrigue is brewing right under his roof. (via Variety)
A 1960's era gangster show entitled "Magic City" based in Miami about the day to day operations of a hotel on the strip??? Holy. Fucking. Shit. This has some amazing potential. I can see it now... a ton of real hstorical characters like Frank Sinatra & Marilyn Monroe passing through while we see the main characters deal with this wacky era... Politics, crime, hotels, celebrities... this show will have it all. I'm in. And just for the record, Starz programming is available through Netflix Streaming... so get on Party Down & Spartacus now!!!! Thanks to Warming Glow for being the best TV blog on the planet... now go get us some more info!!!!

Clooney & Angelina To Play Sinatra & Monroe.... Sexy,Sexy!!!

This is one of the last photos taken of Marilyn Monroe before her death. She is hugging Frank Sinatra, and their relationship has long been a topic of interest amongst fans of both of these icons. Well there is a new book coming out in December called The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog & His Friend, Marilyn Monroe by Andrew O'Hagan that will tell Monroe's poodle Mafia Honeys version of the events of her life. The dog was a gift from Sinatra, so he should figure prominently in the book. As with most books these days that are highly anticipated, the film rights have already been optioned. The movie will probably begin filming sometime next year, and they are discussing George Clooney as Frank and Angelina Jolie as Marilyn. Now, I can deal with Clooney as Frankie Baby, but Jolie as Monroe... uh, I'm not so sure. I would go younger, with my choice being Scarlett Johanson. Check out my visual evidence:

Now thats a role she is destined to play.... Either way, I'm looking forward to this project. Who do you think would make a good Frank and Marilyn??? Tell us in the comment section below.

SNL Throwback Of The Day Vol. #2 2/6/2010

I am a huge Saturday Night Live fan. One of my earliest memories was of my parents watching SNL every Saturday while we were tucked in our bedrooms, and sometimes being allowed to watch for a bit. The show has gone through its ups and downs over its 35 year run, but the fact that it is still on the air after 35 years is a testament to the staying power of the show. Lorne Michaels is a genius at finding and developing young, comedic talent. SNL has produced a bevy of stars over the years, from Eddie Murphy to Tina Fey. The show is doing well again thanks to Ms. Fey and the rest of the team, but I love watching clips from the old shows. Every Saturday I will give you guys one of my favorites. This weeks clip is from season 16, entitled " The Sinatra Group". It features the late, great Phil Hartman playing Frank Sinatra, hostiing a roundtable discussion with other performing artists about the music business. The skit also features Chris Rock and Mike Myers, and Hartman's nicknames for Sinead O'cconor steal the show. Hope you enjoy the pick of the week, see ya next Saturday. Live from my living room, it's Saturday Night!!!!!
