The 'Voltron' Team Gets The Perillo Treatment...

I have always been a big fan of Dave Perillo's work, pretty much since I started checking out artists on the web back in 2007 or 2008. I had the pleasure of meeting Dave at the 2013 Wizard World Comic Show with Tom Whalen, and the dudes were super humble for such talented and popular guys. They downplayed who they were and how popular they were, and were selling prints for really cheap... but the dopest thing was how cool they really were. Just fun guys. Dave is currently participating in a Voltron exhibit at Acidfree Galleries with a bunch of artists, and his might be the best of the bunch. His style shines through, and I was immediately taken back to the early 80s due to the fact that Perillo included the team as well as the big guy. Another well executed piece from a modern master. 'Required Reading 2013' Art Show at Gallery 1988

If there is one thing I love perusing on the Internet it has to be all of the art shows that galleries around the country are having... specifically the pop culture themed shows that galleries are having. The fact that post the works on the Net means that no matter how far away the gallery may be and despite the fact that I don't get to see works in person I still have access to them. The themes of the shows may vary, but no matter what the pieces always excite me. Gallery 1988 is one of the bets in the biz... but even they are always looking to up the ante on a upcoming shows theme. So for one of their most recent shows, 'Required Reading 2013', they decided to get away from pop culture movies, TV and comics and delve into the world of classic literature. A bold and interesting move that I was sure would generate some killer pieces. The show is running at Gallery 1988 West from December 6th through the 22nd. Around The World In 80's Daze With Tom Whalen & Dave Perillo

Gallery 1988 is doing God's Work... there is no other way to state what is going on at the Cali art space. These dudes continue to curate beautiful shows highlighting pop art and the coolest pieces that are being posted about all over the Internet by people like me. For the next few weeks Gallery 1988 is running a show called "Around The World In 80's Days", a show highlighting 80's movie travel locations by Tom Whalen & Dave Perillo. Whalen is one of my favorite artists in the game & Perillo is no slouch, so the pieces are fantastic. My favorite has to be the ad for Falkor Air. So great. The hit song by the hottest thing on Tatooine since the Sarlacc Pit ate chili...the Max Rebo Band!!! Apparently, the words "Lapti Nek" mean "Work it Out" in Huttesse. Too bad they replaced with "Jedi Rocks" in the Special Edition!

This my "Jim Flora" jazz album inspired tribute to band that died way too soon in that horrible Jabba Skiff explosion...let's hope they keep on Lapti Nek'ing in the afterlife...
