OHC of the Day: Jenna-Louise Coleman

If one wanted to become an It-Girl in the entertainment world right now then the best thing to do is get your geek cred up. Get in a super hero movie, on a sci fi themed show, or something like that. For todays Obscure Hot Chick of the Day Jenna-Louise Coleman the answer was simple: How about doing both!!! Jenna was seen in a small part in last years Avengers lead up Captain America: The First Avenger (she was Bucky's date in the beginning scene at The World Fair) and is all set to begin the role as the good Doctors newest companion Oswin Oswald on the Seventh Season of Doctor Who. She has big shoes to fill when it comes to being the Doctors companion... Amy Pond & Rose Tyler (Karen Gilliam & Billie Piper in real life) were both iconic sci fi TV women characters, and they were quite sexy as well. I think Coleman can do both, especially the sexy part. Those eyes... wow, those are the eyes of a star. Due to the crossover popularity of Doctor Who in both England & America I am sure that when her run on the show is over she will move on to bigger and better things... for now, the adventures traveling time & space await. Not bad for the chick who dates Robb Stark (Richard Madden) in real life. Now if she could only steer him away from The Twins and that damn wedding (wink, wink for all you Game of Thrones readers out there). check out the pics after the jump...

The 'Item 47' Teaser Trailer... Marvel Short Films Just Got Real!!!!

So it looks like my decision to not buy any of the Phase 1 Marvel superhero movies on Blu Ray yet is paying big dividends. The ginormous box set that is being planned with the release of Avengers in a few months will include Iron Man 1 & 2, Thor, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk & the Avengers... but it will also include all of the Marvel short films which have bridged the gaps between all of these movies. It also includes 'Item 47', the newest short film that takes place AFTER the Avengers movie. It stars Jesse Bradford & Lizzy Caplan (I absolutely sweat this girl) as two regular schmoes who stumble across a piece of Chitauri weaponry and decide to make some criminal moves to better their life. Yeah, I'm in. Check out the teaser trailer after the jump, and grab the box set when it comes out on September 25th.....

Avengers Assembled

I remember when I first started hearing the rumors back in 2007, that the upcoming "Iron Man" movie was going to have a cameo appearance by Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, that is going to set up for an Avengers movie............Suuuuuuuuuuure. Now first, I didn't believe it, and second, even if they did include said scene, ain't no way in hell they are gunna be able pull off that kind of big plan.

But here we are, 5 movies later, and less than a year away from an unprecedented comic book movie event. Here's a look a the character posters they unveiled over the weekend at SDCC all together as one giant banner of nergasm.

Aside from a few bumps (I really wish that was Edward Norton) Marvel looks like they may actually pull this off. An ensemble comic book film, all with predefined singular experiences, helmed by Joss Whedon, one of the best ensemble and genre handlers out there today. Holy crap I say.

I have enjoyed all the movies thus far, as good, fun, "comic book movies." I am eagerly awaiting this. If it doesn't go any further after, I'm totally fine with that, because as I said, I never would have believed it would have even made it this far.

What do you guys think? If the world does end late next year.....are we good?

These Recruitment Posters Make Picking A Side Tough...

Eric Tan has created two new recruitment posters in honor of the new Captain America movie to be released at the Mondo booth this weekend at Comic Con. Since I won't be getting the chance to go there, I am going to share all the cool stuff I come across with you guys here on CCD. These propaganda style posters are wonderful. You can see the Captain America/good guy one above, and after the jump you can see the one touting the Red Skull's Hydra army as the way to go. If I had to choose based on these posters alone, I would probably go with Hydra. I don't know why, but that damn chin strap on Cap's helmet is bothering more and more as we get closer to the movie release. If I joined up with the good guys they might make me wear ridiculous head gear like that, and that's a no no!!! Team Hydra it is...

OHC Of The Day: Hayley Atwell

God love the British and their never ending stream of hottie actresses. I can't get enough of the UK's young up and comers, and Hayley Atwell is no exception. She made a name for herself acting in a few TV movies across the pond (those things are huge over there) and I first seen her in last summers 'Pillars of the Earth' mini-series (which was unbelievable and a must watch). That role garnered her a Golden Globe nomination and probably helped her secure the role of Peggy Carter in the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger. Being in a huge Marvel Comics movie is sure to pump up her exposure, and I am sure she will figure into sequel plans for what is sure to be a franchise in the making. The buzz on the movie is that it is great and may end up being the best of all the superhero movies released this summer. I am not sure how true that will be, but one thing is for certain: Captain America is sure to feature one of the hottest girls on the planet!!! I'm certain Ms. Atwell won't be an Obscure Hot Chick for much longer.

Posters Like This Give Me Faith In The Captain America Movie

This is a stunning poster created by NY comic artist Paolo Rivera as a gift for the cast & crew. Only 100 of these were made, but it has the perfect vintage feel that I hope this movie captures. It reminds me of the old WWII propaganda posters. Wish I could get my hands on one of these, but I guess I will just have to admire from a distance.

The Captain America Trailer Is Finally Here...

... and boy is it chock full of material for us nerds to rip apart. First, lets see the trailer:



OK... now lets check out the good, the bad, and the weird!!!

The Good:

• I like the 40's look to the whole trailer. They are getting the "feel" of it right.
• I am a fan of the shrimpy version of Chris Evans/Steve Rodgers... I had wondered how they were going to pull this off since I know Evans buffed up for the role of Cap, and it looks like they used some 'Benjamin Button' style movie magic to achieve the effect. He is even mad short... great!
• The cast looks phenomenal, especially Tommy Lee Jones & Stanley Tucci. 
• I am feeling the Red Skull... you only get a small glimpse in this trailer, but we have seen what our boy Hugo Weaving will look like already and its perfect.
•  Hayley Atwell... meow!!!

The Bad:

• To many quick cuts... nothing will sabotage the 40's feel of this movie more then some Michael Bay-esque quick cuts.
• What's up with Cap walking in busting a 9mm pistol while the rest of his crew sprays the place up with machine guns? That's just dumb, no?
• Why is that dude wearing those dark ass shades inside? Silly...
• I can't stand that they make Evans' do his best Edward Norton "Hulk Eyes" right as the Super Soldier medicine kicks in... this was definitely in Norton's Hulk movie, no?
• After they show Evans' all bulked up, I don't like that they went back to shrimpy Evans' for the final scene... just to get a laugh. The last image I should have is him all rough & rugged.

The Weird:

• Where was Bucky at? I didn't peep him.
• Why no extended (aka more then 2 seconds) fight scenes? That leads me to believe they are still working on post production... god, I hope they get this right!
• If you HAVE to include the shield toss in the trailer, at least have Cap toss it AT SOMEONE!!! Down an empty hall... really?
• I am a bit confused. In 'Iron Man 2', they show Tony Stark with a prototype of Cap's shield on his work table. Now we see the indestructible shield back in 1940. Is it the same? Will Cap in the future have Tony's version of his shield? Weird, no?

All in all, not bad... could have been better, I would have liked more actual action instead of shots of Cap and the Howling Commandos charging & firing off screen. But that's just me. My interests are peaked... how 'bout yours? Tell us in the comment section below.

Red Skull REVEALED!

Entertainment Weekly has the scoop this week with the first full on shot of Steve Rogers' nemesis from the upcoming 'Captain America: The First Avenger' that will appear in it's most recent magazine issue. The disfigured 'Red Skull' is, of course, being played sinisterly by 'Matrix' trilogy veteran Hugo Weaving countering Chris Evans' patriotic 'Captain America'. How did 'Hollywood' do this time in recreating the infamous Marvel icon? Tell us in the comment section provided below. 

Movie Trailer Mania @ The Super Bowl!!!!

The Super Bowl gives us great football, but it also gives us an opportunity to see some of the great movies that are coming out in the next year. First Look 'Captain America: The First Avenger' & 'Spider-Man'

So, new images were just released today for two of the most anticipated Marvel film releases of the new decade..... 

Andrew Garfield donning the web-tacular wardrobe from the Spider-Man reboot. (Still untitled and roughly scheduled for 2011)

...And Chris Evans finally in full 1940-tastic Captain American garb for the upcoming 

'Captain America: The First Avenger' (scheduled for release July 22, 2011)

Mr. Mike D. would be the better source for whether or not these two live of to comic nerd standards but, alas...he's out on assignment so it is left up to this roving reporter, Lego enthusiast (and general geek) to bring you some quick thoughts.

-I'm not SUPER enthusiastic about a Spider-Man reboot this close to the original Sam Raimi film releases, but I gotta say, this costume looks spectacular. Like the one worn by Toby Maguire...but, slightly cooler somehow. I only hope the mask doesn't get some complete overhaul that we're not expecting...or ready for.

- This Captain America costume kicks ass! It's believable, less hokey than what I remember from the original comics and has equal measure old-skool and new. 

I'm getting a bit excited for the arrival of both of these films. So far so good!
