Where The Wilder Things Are by Derek Eads

What can I say... I am a sucker for a play on words. Artist Derek Eads decided to put a Wonka type spin on the monsters of Where The Wild Things Are, and the results are awesome. This one goes out to my buddy Jeff Bond, the biggest Gene Wilder fan I know....See the full piece after the jump.

Willy Wonka Turns 40... You Guys Look Great (Cough, Not Really, Cough)

Wait, what.... Willy Wonka is 40 years old? Jesus Christ I feel old. This kind of makes me sad, for one reason only: It's getting closer to us losing a true talent, one of the greatest comedians ever, Gene Wilder. Wilder has not made many films in the last 20 years, and he is at his absolute best in this one. Anywho, here is a comparison pic of the stars of the movie:

Well, here are my three thoughts on this compilation of before and after photos:

  1. Wilder looks great, even though he must be getting up there in age (Im to lazy to check, but he has to be in his late 60s/early70s, no?)
  2. I had no idea that Rusty Goffe, the man who was the Oompa-Loompa, was also a Jawa. Now that is gangster!!!
  3. Is Michael Bollner (Augustus Gloop) finding his new career as a stand in for Colonel Sanders ok... cause he looks like a sad, sad man.
I also had a chance to meet Paris Themmen (Mike TeeVee) at a convention last year, and boy was he a  bit of a douche. Had to get that one off my chest. Can't believe it's been 40 years.... thanks for the memories!

Celebrity Life Appreciation Volume #1

So much is said about people after they have passed on that, sometimes, I am saddened that I didn't appreciate them more when they were still with us by talking about them, discussing their great works, etc. There are quite a few creative persons who are still amongst the living but unfortunately have faded from Hollywood's immediate spotlight in the search for the more youthful talent of today. I decided to create a regularly occurring homage in pictures to those beloved celebrities that are still alive today but, are in danger of going unnoticed until their deaths puts them in the fore front of the daily news.  My hope is that I may inspire even one person to watch or rewatch a few of their films or TV shows or listen to a few of their albums and in certain cases, read a few of their books..to appreciate them while they are still here to accept that appreciation.

This weeks spotlight is on the great and whimsical Gene Wilder.  Enjoy the compilation.
